We have released a new video on Ovation! This time it's a CS24-C Classic Ovation. In that video i continue Mediterranean Sundance pretty much where it ended in this video. Link - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wHGhNj3jtbM.html
Just what I've been looking for. I just discovered Ovation, and told my brother. He laughed and said I've been missing out. I'm looking to buy first personal six string. As I've been playing Bass for a short time. but I'm itching to play something a lot more melodic. So far, the Ovation seems to tickle my fancy. It also looks like something I'd play at Ren Fairs or the like. lol
The mic's pick up the room also. I get a mic'd sound from my plugged in setup. What is the anpcthat you ate using, plugged is dark than any I have ever heard. Nice playing.
I have never had that problem actually. Having the jack on the back side is not a problem as long as you play the guitar in a "standard" way. Although i do believe it could be a problem if you play the guitar like you do with a classical one. Then it's possible that the cable will poke you in the stomach.
Thanks for cycling through the various models. I am inclined towards a shallow or super shallow type due to an old shoulder injury that hates my rather thick dreadnaught. I am mostly a strummer guitar player. Can someone outline the sound differences between these two types? Thanks. 🙏
According to me (the guy playing in the video), the super shallows have a bit more mid to them. At the same time the sound is suprisingly full, with a nice low end. Although they don't quite match the loudness of the mid depth and deep contour models. In summary i would say that the super shallow is a good choice, especially in regard to format/sound quality. If i were to choose a model it would probably be a super shallow variant because of what's stated above :).
@@davekennedy8626 hi Dave I have this exact model for nearly four years and I also have a shoulder injury and rib injury's for years now but these are great guitars so comfortable and easy to play but most of all loud enough unplugged in a jam session with other people playing Jumbo's and dreadnoughts just cuts through nice I have other expensive guitars as well but this is the one I play mostly especially when I'm giving guitar lessons for hours at a time so hopefully this will helpful to you Dave
@@robertmoore6263 Thanks! I’ve ordered a Celebrity Elite Exotic super shallow. Going to be a couple of months waiting for it to show up but I am so looking forward to playing it.
Funny and sad at the same time for ME. In the early seventies I bought my first Ovation (BEFORE they had electronics!) LOVED it, so in 1975 I bought 3 MORE (a 6-string GC Custom, a 12-string GC Custom, and the NYLON 1624 Country Artist). In 1980 I purchased a GORGEOUS Natural Custom Legend. I then had FIVE (5) Ovations that I loved... By 1984 I had FOUR (4) Ovations with SPLIT TOPS, in the SAME PLACE!!! (from the bridge to the bottom of the lower bout, STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE on 3, STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, then turned right towards the treble side and lifted about 3 inches on the CUSTOM LEGEND!) The ONLY one that hasn't split is the NYLON one, which I still play TODAY. Sorry Ovation, ONE would be a "FREAK THING", TWO would be a "COINCIDENCE", but FOUR is way BEYOND acceptable... I had no choice but to take my business ELSEWHERE, and never looked back. Still love my NYLON, and on the 'bright side", believe it or not, the CUSTOM LEGEND with the "lifted top", STILL holds TUNE! LOLOLOLOL... GO FIGURE!
@@bobo8741 Not specifically, but ALWAYS kept in cases, lived from NY to FL and I have 21 other guitars of different brands (both electric and acoustic) and never have had a issue of ANY kind. Some OLDER, some NEWER, but no issues at ALL... Weird... Thanks, ;)
I have a 1995 Elite Standard, i bought it back in 1995. It still sounds incredible, but i think it got the same problem. The top around the bridge cracks, also the bottom grape sound hole is lifted. I live in Indonesia where the humidity is high (60%-70% all of the year) so I put the silica gell/dehumidifier inside the case when I don't use the guitar. I have another 2 Taylor guitars no problem at all.
@@Evrakuf Is it okay if I use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings Extra Light .010-.047 EJ15 strings for my Ovation balladeer 1861? or should I get the Adamas?
On my Ovation Celebrity Elite, I have been using Ernie Ball Earthwoood Medium Light. I have been loving Ernie Ball Alumibronze strings on my Garrison dreadnaught, but found them to sound really messy and muddy against the resonant bowl of my Ovation. I switched to Earthwoods and the clarity is incredible. It's all personal preference though. :)
Hi, Changing to a bone nut will subtly change the tone of the guitar. You will not notice a difference when playing bar chords (because the strings doesn't resonate over the nut when playing those kinds of chords). You will however notice a difference when playing open chords. It will also be more durable than a plastic nut.
most don't tell what the bowl dept is.....how come?. drives me nuts. look online and show the guitar and the model but lacks full description. come on!!
Yeah, understandable.. The models featured in this video has the following bowl depths: CE-48P - Super Shallow RSE225-5 - Mid depth CS24P - Mid depth CE-44 - Mid depth 1771VL-1GC - Mid Depth
You're a good player but what are you plugging it into? Your plugged in sound is horrid. I've been playing Ovations for 30 plus years and I get such a great plugged in sound.
I agree with you, the plugged in sound is not as good as one would want. Next time i'm thinking about putting a mic in front of one of our high end acoustic guitar amplifiers. This should remedy many of the problems with the plugged in sound in this video. When i created this video i plugged in to a Zoom H6, of course with Hi-Z activated. The point of this was to demonstrate the "raw" performance of the piezo mic but exactly as you point out, this was not a good way to communicate this.
Seems to me that the the "plugged-in" sound is like that of the very cheapest pickups on the very cheapest guitars. I thought the whole point of Ovation was their pickup sound.
It might be that we have try to find a way to "communicate" the plugged in sound better, maybe by recording it another way. Plugged in i think Ovation really does sound good, especially compared to other brands in the same price range.
It could also be a matter of how you EQ it through your system and how you're transferring that sound to the listeners ears, whether live or through a recording. I do think that the mics sounded amazing, it may just be that the sound needs to be a little more polished from the pickup(EQ, reverb, compression/sustain, etc.).
Yeah, i think it's partly my fault that the piezo mics doesn't sound as good as one would expect. I actually plugged the guitar straight in to the audio interface and i'm not certain that i had the impedance dialed in right. I think i will do another one of these and try to focus more on the piezo part. In real life i think these pickups sound quite good.
I'm considering buying one of these but can't help to notice the awful amount of fret buzz. Especially the G and the D string sound buzzy as hell. Maybe its just the loud playstyle? Great playing anyway thanks for the video
There is no real comparison the piezo sounds way more responsive and alive and more in the mix even tho we’re only hearing acoustic guitar but it would lift a mix with drums bass vocals and even electric … they all sounded better in my opinion in the piezo
