Great selection of games, brings back sweet memories :-) two things though - there are more than one MSX1 games in there, and second, please, please run games at 60Hz if they are intended for that. 50Hz makes them so much more sluggish and they really suffer from that.
I never really knew much about the MSX2, I have to say I didn't realise it was such a capable machine, many of these games look almost Atari ST quality.
There's a couple in there that I suspected might not have been MSX2, I know that it contiuned way past everything that anyone else saw in Japan in various upgraded versions. I didn't know they did remakes of the big games though. I had Gauntlet on the MSX1 and it did not run like that! haha
Graphically they could have made better games, but there were many brands and each one put the ram they wanted or even different chips, so I suppose they would look for compatibility with MSX2 with little ram and with this they would also sell few and not spend much time and money to programming something with little market, putting a Z80 so slow didn't help either, besides the scroll and everything in general looks slower than an Atari and it's not even close to an Amiga500, a shame.
@@Elbas_Tardothe msx2 had vertical scrolling ability (unfortunately not horizontal one), better (because circular) than c64 for example, it does not need a super speedy cpu. plus the z80 is not that bad, on msx you can redraw a tiled mode @60hz. There is also a very useful blitter (working with logical pixel coordinates and able to do logical operations and emulate a blit operation with transparency support, but is was horribly slow pratically the same move speed of a z80 on its own ram and given the fact that a bitmap screen is 27 or 54Kb in size you cannot expect miracles.)
Looks nice. Now if only the games found in MSX-Fan Magazines made it on this list (or any list really). They really deserve a spotlight again after so long.
Thank you for this great video… I was like a kid, remembering the games I used to play during my kindness 😊 Boulder dash, 1942, or Hyper Rally ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great compilation of my beloved MSX2 system! It really shows what the system is capable of and it's GREAT to see that you didn't put any lazy ZX Spectrum conversion here! There's a real fair amount of rather obscure titles I didn't know or play, by the way. Some games were enhanced by extra chips on their cartridges, specially the ones by Konami, which was the most innovative developer, by far, for the system. Compile has also done great works. Is there a MSX2+ compilation coming? There are marvellous titles in it.
Looking for information on msx2 and came across this video. I have recently received a Japanese copy of Admirals decision it is a black cartridge with gold foil sticker but the odd thing is it has what looks like antenna wires coming out of the top. Anyone have any ideas on this??? Thank you for the content.
@@TheLairdsLair it doesn't sound like 8SVX and there were different built in chips in different models, right? Which one is this, to make it sound close to SNES, do you know?
Came to be impressed. Feel asleep 😂 Too many similar games! Zx spectrum may be inferior, but at least it has enough unique games to fill 1 hour with 100 games! I'm not here to just the msx, it's still great machine! This video just didn't tickle my fancy 😂
