Nope, about 1,187 which is very low. However, we aren't taking into account of wind drag and distance (over 2 miles) which could decrease the overall velocity of the round.
@markandsamafterwork

Do you guys realise that the bullet speed slows as it travels, starts at 2850fps and finishes at approx 800fps

MarkandSam AfterWork Your videos are inspiring. I'm hoping to take up some long range shooting this year. Currently scouting a few friend's properties for a location to get some decent distance. Our local rifle range only goes to 200 yards. I see on your other channel you build and tune cars as well! We just finished a Hilux for my dad, ran 10.0 130mph first time out and hopefully has a little more left in it after some tuning. . I've got a Chevy S10 I've got down to 8.6s at 155+mph . . bit more in that one too. . hopefully I can work my way to some success at long range shooting!! Have a great new year!

MarkandSam AfterWork Same with you, looking forward to the Fire works around Australia, i was not born here but i am a true Aussie, maybe try with the .50 cal & see how far you can get with that, maybe at least 4 miles at a 1 x 1 meter Sq target & also to see what happens with the bullet as it hit's & maybe as well get the right projectile for the .50 cal & the Powder as well, like they say the prep before shooting at long range is the no 1 issue people dont think about, but you guys know 100% what you are doing, i just hope you can have a .50 cal demo. :) anyway have a great Australia Day with you family & friends 2015. :)
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 9 лет назад
7071t6 the 50 doesn't really have a lot more range, there is a bit more range in the likes of the 416 Barrett or the 408 Cheytec, but none of these are easy or even likely to license in our part of the country. Anyway you and yours have a good one, Cheers.

that is a properly damn impressive bit of shooting you and your spotter have done there... The most I've ever stepped out to was 450 yards. However, long range shooting here in western Georgia USA isn't so much of a thing... too much dense forest and underbrush. We're lucky to have a range available upwards of 500 yards. Congratulations and thanks for sharing

Indeed this was very impressive shooting and no doubt a lot of time and work went in to making a hit at such a distance, Bravo. However regarding record I'm pretty sure the one you're talking about was in Afghanistan and the Corporal allegedly hit two separate targets (people) with two successive shots. not a static 24" steel plate I think they are two different records if anything.

A very challenging target on a fairly windy day with wind gusts. I've never owned a weapon with the .338 Lapua caliber so I'm not familiar with it and I don't have a Berger manual but I checked my hand-loading manuals and most of them don't list a load for the 300-grain bullet. The only manual that listed it was Sierra's. The heaviest bullets most of them listed was 250 grains.

wow that's one hard shot. even with the .338 Lapua the round goes transonic just past a mile making the round very unstable past the transonic range. the only round I know of that maintaines it's stability once it crosses the transonic range is the .408.Great shot!
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 8 лет назад
+TheArmedSheepdog Thanks Man, these rounds are quiet stable, and if you check through some of my other vids you will see that there are a few other VLD projectiles that also not to bad right out in the sub sonic range. Cheers Man and all the best..

Glad to see what the rifle we use in the Swiss Army is actually capable of :D I don't have much experience besides army training but we were told that we should keep completely still after firing a shot and I can see that you move quite a lot just after pulling the trigger. Might just be mumbojumbo but we learned that you should focus on not moving so you don't accidentally and unconsciously "shake" the rifle while the shot is still in the barrel. Anyways good work :D
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 9 лет назад
+Reto Kehrli There are lots of ways to teach how to get a good follow through on shooting, for a basic level of training I would suggest the same, of course once the gun has recoiled you can not influence the shot by moving. At a more advanced level I tend to encourage to do what is most comfortable for you, always keeping mind you do need to have a good stable follow through to get the best results.

Holy shit! You guys sure did this the hard way and I'm totally impressed! The guys over at CheyTec are all bragging about their 2 mile shots, but they were all under optimal conditions with ballistics and atmospheric metering/computing systems and factory support, AND they are shooting at a 36" x 36" target. I would bet that if you were to use bags instead of a bipod you would be hitting at at 1 to 2 rate! :) REALLY IMPRESSIVE mates!

+Karen Audrey Todd Thanks Karen, it was a lot of fun and great to achieve, we plan to go a little further this season, and will stay with the in field position and the 24" x 24" plate just cause its what we use. Thanks again all the best.

Thanks, dialled to get the cross hairs on the target and then slight hold over to allow for corrections. Winds affected both horizontal and vertical. Thanks for the comment cheers.
