As I am sure you know, Jesus was a Jew and not only spent His early years living in Egypt but also much of His mission was spent in the Trans-Jordan districts, the Decapolis and surrounding. I suspect this kind of music might have been both familiar to Him and, more importantly, not offensive to Him at all. Quite the opposite, probably. Culturally, possibly very familiar. My personal relationship with Christ and God manifested as a first declaration from the divine, “I am The Beloved”, which is why I favour this translation of Matt 3-17, and why I was directed to choose this piece for the film.
