OVER 30 HOURS Spent Trying to Escape This Remote Mountain Pass.. | Episode 1

Keep in mind the length this ride eventually becomes 30 plus hours and the mirror stem was only there for a brief 25-35ish minutes or so before I removed it. I should have removed it immediately, but I was tired from dragging the bikes under the log and didn't want to pull my tools out. Nonetheless, I should have.

The single track by the river is absolutely epic af!!!! But after you broke your mirror gave me ptsd thinking you were going 2 get impaled through the neck by that mirror bar. Holy hell i would have put that in my pack immediately!

Nice ride! Careful with poky things that could go into your body. Would probably have removed that mirror base. I’m always careful about items crushing or stabbing me when riding trails.

That helmet placement on the sloped log had to be one of the most dangerous things in the video, minus the mirror stem.

@madjack_757 have you considered carrying a Silky KatanaBoy? I use one every day to clear logs off of our trails in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness where powered saws are prohibited. When sharp, and with a little muscle, they can compete with a chainsaw any day. And they are a fraction of the weight and size.

Key items for anyone going into the backcountry. Garmin GPS SOS, Emergency Bivy Kit with compass/blanket/kindling/waterproof matches, medical kit, water filter, insulated jacket with synthetic insulation. These are just the basics. Everyone learn about the 10 essentials before going into the back country.

Just finally getting to start this series of videos after watching all the shorts! Awesome video man, good work getting out of there and keeping yourselves calm and collected throughout. You addressed this already but my ANXIETY with that mirror stem sticking up hahahahahaha.

Cool video guys! That was an adventure 😂 I was going to mention the mirror-death-spike, but it seems plenty of others already have, anyway, no big deal, it’s easy to not notice something like that when you’re concentrating on a sketchy trail!

I spent the night on the trail not far from where i think that is about 15 years ago. Learned to cut every log unless its a super easy ridearound (no dragging or tag teaming), and just turn around if we run short of daylight or baroil. Most serious riders here ride 2strokes so we never run out of saw gas, but its pretty easy to keep pushing forward until its too late to turn around.

It honestly makes me feel better that you are spooked by the single track on the side of of a cliff. I see guys playing that off like it’s nothing all the time and I’m like, you have to be totally puckered to the max or there is something wrong with you!

That log that you broke your mirror in the process of dragging your bike under looked like it could have easily been cut , and btw the mirror stem remaining looks dodgy, if your were to get crossed up in a incident, Anyway the trails looks class and keep up the good footage 👍

I was attracted by Episode 3 and decided not to see it until I watched one and two! Glad I did! Great video and yeah lots of mistakes but you know that! I really appreciated your perspective and acknowledgement in the comments. I realized I have just been lucky myself so far! Gonna pack by gear tomorrow night and make sure I have all that I should!

Great video of some very sketchy high exposure trail! You had a great attitude towards all the obstacles you encountered! Unless you’ve ridden in these types of situations people have no appreciation for how tiring it can be wrestling a 300 lb bike up, over, under and around these obstacles! Can’t wait to see the rest of the adventure!

Epasode # 3 was a real nail biter, best dirt bike vid I've watched, I was amazed you hard core guys kept your cool the whole time laughing through the whole ordeal. I must say never trust a Garmin, I've been sent off into no no land two many Times with my POS Garmin, Gotta pack a warm something and extra supplies when riding in the Mountains because if shit can happen it will. Again great vid and stamina when its really needed, kudos to you two.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Braaap!

Same thing happen to me and a buddy in fernan Idaho we missed the turn and had to spend the night in the woods abandon our bikes and walk out . Then the following weekend we had a bunch of friends chain saw us out to get back to our truck it was a survival situation like you guys .

I recognize this trail. I tried it about 3 weeks back. I turned around at the second log as I was alone and forgot my saw. I wouldn’t have wanted to cut it anyways because the sliding was my concern as well. I ended up one a nearby trail that was miserable (at the time) with sooo many downed trees. My buddy snapped the clutch master cylinder off the bars trying to get through. Good times.

Great narration, videography, and crazy ride, and I’m only on Part 2. Question: have you done anything to your bike prevent stalling at the low speed riding you’re doing? I know a lot of clutch work but are you using a clutch/flywheel weight or anything? Great riding over technical consequential terrain.

Dude you should have taken the mirror skewer off 😜just fkn with ya. But that place looks awesome. Slow going but nice trail. If you need a mirror, look into the RAM mount type. Love my mirrors, so flexible plus you can get a phone mount for it

I’m 71 years old now. I don’t ride tracks like this alone anymore. In fact, I’ve never been in this situation before. I just traded my KTM 690 Enduro R for a BMW R Nine T Scrambler.

in 1844 John C Fremont expedition crossed the sierra mountains. On Foot. In January. In 1854 he crossed the Wasatch mtns in Feb? between Panguitch and Parowan Ut, roughly... lost some men. in 1999 I got stuck on the Abajo mtns above Montecello-Blanding Ut in the snow, then the battery went dead. So I walked 26 miles to Blanding. Stayed in a ranger station near Duck Lake and Kigalia and a logging trailer, walked past The Bears Ears.... in 1991 I was riding my Moto Morini 501 Camel from Hans Flat to Robbers Roost when a timing belt broke. In August. Walked 14 miles in 100F heat. That one worried me but there was a cloud and a gallon of water. I figured 6 hours.... imagine my surprise when I walked into camp 3hrs and 45 minutes late!. that was cool. And I have the topo maps and google earth to confirm the distance. I was 41 then, a pup.

I know the feeling. My beta left me 20 miles away from the truck this weekend. Never been so frustrated in my life. Still trying to figure out what happened.

Hell of a video man! Need that enduro engineering chainsaw mount if you're going to be transporting a saw. Makes life SOO much easier. Or if you're up to more physcial work you could bring a folding bow saw. I always carry one of the AGAWA 15' ones on any trip (strap it along my fork) for the smaller trees.

Time to get some double take mirriors! That wouldn't have happened! The beginning part was good practice for some log hopping! If people in Australia can do them with dr650's we can too! Then again maybe they're built different 😆🤟

Yep, June in Idaho is still cold at night in the mnts. There's still snow in some places, plus it might actually snow, too.

you do it very well. all time having to handle the bike, and non stop move the bars. BTW pouch weight on front bars doesn't really help, giving inertia, but I guess you had no choice to put things elsewhere ! you are a great example of super smooth throttle control. Having to focus all time is really sucking brain and body energy.... keep the good job

You said that at times that trail was SKETCHY, no, that whole trail was sketchy. Even in my younger days, I would have never taken a trail like that. I made a mount for my Polaris quad, and my TW200, that with the release of 1 stretch cord I could release my chainsaw. On the TW I use a Ryobi 18 volt 12 inch cain saw. I have used it around the house a lot, and it cuts just fine. The Polaris has a regular Dollmar chainsaw. I carry lots of emergency supplies in my quad, but other than a good set of tools, I need to carry every thing else in my Hydration pack on my TW. I think that I am going to invest in a kick starter for my TW. One thing that I do have installed in my 2022 Polaris 570 trail, my 2022 TW200, and my 2017 RZR900, is an AGM battery. I recently sold my 2009 Polaris 550 Quad, and it still had the original AGM battery in it. The 2009 was my snow-plow quad, and it always started. I am impressed by the rugged trails that you ride on, and I am also impressed that you had another rider with you on this adventure. I paused the video at 34 minutes to write this comment. I am sure that I will have more to add after watching the rest.

Watching you ride that amount of distance with a steel throat pike sticking out of your handlebars just baffled me. Why you wouldn't have just spun it off before limboing the log escaped me first though.🤷

2nd log question? Would it, could it have been an option to use a smaller log as a pry bar either near the top or bottom of that log to see if a little prying action might loosen the whole thing (while keeping yourself at a distance of course) and let that big log take off and find the river? Yes, no? Even worth a try?
