Hello, and welcome back to my channel! Recently, I did a video helping women over 60 build a capsule wardrobe, and I got a few messages from the over 70s, so today, this video is dedicated to you.

Over the years I've tried many different "systems" and I can tell you the one that worked for me is: when I put something on that just doesn't work--it comes off immediately and put in donation/give away bag. Same if I wear something all day and it just isn't working or is uncomfortable as the day goes on. It goes in a laundry bag and after laundered gets donated. Doesn't take long before all you have left is a great, comfortable closet full of wonderful clothes. This has eliminated all the time consuming organizing and sorting systems.

I agree however shopping with intention and working out what works for you can help you avoid purchasing something that dos not work in the first place. Great system though

Thank you! I retired to Sicily at age 64, and turned 70 last August. Got rid of the car and bought a pedal bike. I cycle, walk, swim in the sea and do yoga. I have gradually got rid of my work wardrobe, but kept some gorgeous blazers. I wear shorts and linen shirts or T-shirts, with trainers or sandals. Have a great collection of belts. Anything I don't LOVE on me goes to the clothes bank

I hate the idea of a capsule wardrobe, but your advice is practical. What I love most is the advice to wear what you love. I just cleaned out my wardrobe. Joy! Now I can buy more wisely. One thing I have noticed is that thin women look great in what you call 'baggy clothes'.

Hi jennifer, most advice regarding capsule wardrobes is not applicable to most people so I agree. My approach is more about bringing it down to the grass roots and working up from there. In my experience it is the only way it works. I agree some women look ok in baggy clothes though even with slim women I would suggest it is mainly the style of the baggy garment that works or doesnt.

I’m retired from being a stay at home mom and homemaker . I did alterations from home . That being said to point out I never had a “work” wardrobe . But my biggest issues now is having to cover my upper arms as they are very full of cellulite and I have bingo wings . Last summer my grandson asked me what they were 😂

Our Mom treated my sister and me to a Color Me Beautiful analysis over 40 years ago and, with some refinements, it’s been very useful to me over the years. I also recommend an objective body-shape analysis if you have constant problems with fit, or still feel you don’t understand your shape, or that it’s changed. I always knew that I was between an hourglass and rectangle shape, but it wasn’t until I was about 50 that I realized how very short-waisted I am. My waist has thickened since menopause and my coloring has faded quite a bit, even my eye color. Strangely, my formerly straight hair has become curly, which took me by surprise, as did my skin being slightly pinker, unlike my Mom’s slight yellowing with age. I’ve also lost two inches of height since young adulthood, so had to lose some weight, I was basing my ideal weight on the wrong height. I do suggest keeping up to date with one’s makeup and hair style, it helps one look and feel fresher, as well as periodically updating one’s coloring and body shape analysis. The more we understand ourselves, the happier we’ll be in our wardrobe choices, and most people lack self-objectivity.

Absolutely agree. This is the first service I offer private clients because it gives you a basis of knowledge which which to shop better. That in turn helps you save money by making fewer mistakes.

I think the best video is .... "Post Retirement - Fun Time Ahead!!" I lived with three capsules - work, relax, evening. And yes, I attended a lot of cocktail parties and balls so it was needed. If had my colours done in my 20's. I also used private stylists in some of the good stores who would call me when something came in that would work. I employed, and still do, a tailor to not only do alterations but make an outfit from scratch (5' tall). Retiring found me remarried at 46. Living in two different countries and climates. Going silver white (my colours no longer work). Losing over 40lbs. And finally becoming a dog-mum. Still finding my way ..... Appreciate the piece very much!

72 here, and I have been changing my wardrobe over past 5 years as I retired. Most of my clothes are casual and easy to wear also NO dry cleaning ‼️ I hate hose so wear maxi dresses or loose linen trousers.

You might think about leg makeup! I have fish-belly white legs and refuse to wear hose again. When I wear shorter dresses out comes the leg makeup!

i love the rule that the one thing that doesn't belong in your wardrobe is other people's opinions! I have borderline coloring; I've been typed [in person, mind you, with draping] as a true autumn, a soft summer, and a bright winter. I've decided that I'm basically neutral coloring leaning very slightly cool, and I base my wardrobe on taupes and mushrooms and the teal blue-green that is closest to my eyes. Really good content here. Pinterest is the bomb!

Thank you for your kind comment. Yes this is my point most people don't fit perfectly into those predefined palettes. Some fit predominantly in one but fall slightly into another too. I am always taking colours out and replacing them with others for private clients. Putting people into simple boxes never works.

I am so glad that I happened upon your video. I wish I had found such information even earlier. I think your suggestion to study Pinterest photos is a phenomenal one. I so look forward to doing it. I think it will be a lot of fun as well as beneficial. I also thought your information about dividing One‘s life into sections of activity is super helpful. By the time I retired. I felt like I was a pro in terms of my work wardrobe. I have felt much less confident in my wardrobe since retirement. I now feel much more excited About the choices I will make in the future. I love your one thing not to wear: “anything based on other people’s judgement”. I’m 64 and cheerfully ignore all those “don’t wear after 40/50/60” rules”. We should only wear exactly what we love and that makes us feel beautiful. One such “rule” I love to ignore is that if wearing shorts skirts. My legs look better than 95% of American teenagers’, so why shouldn’t I show them off? (No merit to me, I just inherited great legs DNA, along with some less-beautiful features).

I'm 65 and I've always wore what I felt like, basically very plain. Jeans, tee and open button up. Never changed. I like watching people experiment with clothes but I've never had an interest. I'm always relaxed. I don't even wear make-up. I have rosacea so I never seem to look right so I just don't. I'm happy though.

I’m 71 and I don’t wear trends. I stick with classics. And I don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is. I just have a wardrobe and it’s not very big. I just don’t need much. We used to call them “separates.” Mix and match.

Re body type. We need body type images that are our age not 20 year olds. I may be slender but my shape (and how clothes fit)is quite different than it once was.

I don’t like wearing black much, especially on my skinny bottom half, but here in the US, so many clothes come only in black and one trendy, warm-toned, bright color which doesn’t suit me. I see so many white or light-colored bottoms on UK websites, then when I shop the US site, they only have black! It’s very frustrating, why do all trousers, skirts, leggings, etc., only come in black here? Black actually suits few women and, I think, can be a bit of a cop-out. There are too many American women who only wear black, it’s not chic, it’s dreary and lazy.

It is like any colour it works for some and not for others. It is a shame that you can not find what you need. Fashions dictate what everyone should wear but also it means that often only certain styles and colours are available. It can be frustrating when I work with private clients too.

Women with large busts and broad shoulders look like tanks in blazers or sleeveless dresses. Also hate white shirts and flat loafers. So boring! I wear whatever I like that I can find (or make) in my size. Anyone who does not like it - you are not my friend, you do not even have any manners. Wear what you want! Life is too short! I am in my 70s and enjoying my clothes.

Hello thank you for your comment. You should wear what you want this is a great attitude. In regards to women looking like ‘tanks’ I’m not sure I’d agree because it depends on the style and cut, that said I do agree you should avoid any styles you do not find appealing.
