Well I don’t disagree, but if they are trying to get rid of it as an invasive species, they don’t wanna run the risk of accidentally spreading it by hand/ human intervention. (You take it out, you grab the grub and as you cast your line the grub comes off but lives. Spreads and reproduces and becomes invasive again. ) We all know humans aren’t perfect and we will have spread it just as badly if we let them use the majority as bait.

Yeah we use some type of beetles in Tennessee we always called them grub worms but I don't think ours are invasive or bad really. I've caught some catfish and bream they really stay on the hook.

I found grubs in my compost when went to turn it. I showed my dogs and now I have two tillers that will dig threw everything, to the point that I had to fence off the gardens. Whatever kind of beetle grunts they are, they give the dogs some horrible gas.

Spreading Horticulture Corn Meal would help efficiently because hunting might leave lots of eggs unfound; I had similar grubs/Japanese Beetle larvae in my garden and found this natural solution online and it worked amazingly. The beetles eat corn meal but cannot digest it and slow down and eventually die - you see the difference in 1-2 weeks

A year ago, a demonstration with pigs was successful. Chickens are also useful. The pigs have the tools to root and dig more then chickens. CRB control with animals is similar to vegetation control with goats. You need strong fencing to keep the animals contained, and trailers to bring them in and out from the area geing treated. The key will be finding a way to finance these programs, and expand them.

The beetles, maybe, because they move around; but most grubs hardly move much at all, so traps wouldn't work for them.

Here in So Cal we have grubs this size that are from the Japanese Fig Beetles, and they are a favorite food of our chickens, good source of protein too.

These things are too big for chickens to eat. Chickens swallow their meals whole. The larva of these beetles is very large much larger than any of the grub chickens eat. They live under ground in soil so a trap will not work. The best way to deal with these pests are to actively hunt them like this. They have no natural predators in Hawaii. In Asia these beetles have to deal with foxes, raccoon dogs (tanuki), and various birds of prey. Hawaii Feral cats don’t hunt these as the larvae lives under ground and the adults have thick shells.

Things like this are a great idea though generally useless because its just a drop in the bucket. However, if freezing them kills them, why can’t these simply be thrown in the ocean near a known fish feeding area? It seems a waste to simply incinerate so much protein and fat that could be used as animal food.

This is so good for the children. They are learning about the environment about agriculture the soil, how bugs help and some hurt the environment. They may even become an Entomologist in the future, this is how it begins if they like bugs.

Would you look at the size of those grubs? Imagine the fish you could catch with those, and I'm sure someone's chicken's would love to get into that area. birds, skunks, armadillos, raccoons and/or moles will eat grubs. Might want to import a few.

They're imported mostly for gambling. They're fighting beetles. They are used for fighting.

I wonder if there isn't a similar bacteria like Bacillus thuringiensis for Japanese beetles, that would get rid of the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle. You apply the powder to the soil or spray the leaves of plants you need to protect and the bacteria take over the larvae, killing them.

I haven’t been privy to it in many years… But in Texas, we have a rattlesnake roundup, or did at one time I know of. You would not believe the giant rattlesnakes that are captured, displayed, and turned into all kinds of other goodies, by experts, who know how to capture and deal with rattlesnakes. They are also good to eat, and produce all kinds of other goods with rattlesnake skins, heads, and the rattles.

Chickens will eat the larvae. They also eat mice and snakes....great natural pest control. Bonus - they give back eggs for your breakfast.

Other than the Native people, the plant life on Hawaii is all foreign to the island. There is nothing on Hawaii that is really from Hawaii.
