Music video showing the British military through the ages (1704 Blenheim, American Revolution War, Napoleonic Wars (Waterloo), Crimean War, and the Seven Year's War)
Unfortunately Battles are very, very noisy (I'm a active ECWS Re-enactor, and the only order (5files X 4ranks) to give is "Forward" & the "Fire your Matchlock . . . . and Fall On" = ( rotate your piece and Club down the opposition and never, never stand! drive them off the field) So. many time I've had to checked my pan to be sure it's fired (a miss-fire and no Club Melee), you honestly can't tell sometimes, and your heads always on a swivel for horse ! [ Note: ECWS Battles - aprox 500 souls, and the 9lb musket's butt is overlapped in steel ]
this vid starts with a scene from a film of the life of Winston Churchill, when he had just been made prime minister, early in w war 2, when it seemed that Hitler's tyranny was about to overwhelm the whole of Europe, and that the hand of destiny weighed heavily upon him, he took a visit to his Ancestral home, where he was born on 30 November 1874, Blenheim Palace, in Oxfordshire, which was built for his Ancestor the first Duke of Marlborough, by Queen Ann, and our grateful nation for Marlborough's leadership of the Allied armies in fighting and defeating the French from 1701 to 1710 and saving Europe from Tyranny, he "sees" the Duke mid battle and realises the great enormity of the task he was to undertake, he had lived an extraordinary life before WW2, and later said that he realised that everything that had come to pass in his life had been a preparation for this moment. .
@@MrSynkie @MrSynkie that'd be hard, you know, a line of motionless musketeers vs some scattered out infantrymen with assault rifles hiding behind cover, taking potshots.
@@ByzantineAuxilary well... The video did feature footage from the Movie Waterloo 1970 a surprisingly historically accurate movie about Napoleons defeat.
There are some great clips from a British TV series 'Sharpe' about a British soldier during the napoleononic wars Also clips from the "patriot ", The film "Waterloo" "Barry Lydon" and finally "Charge of the light brigade " some of these are well worth a watch. Thanks for your interest in British military history. 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍
@@badasstimmy1675 actually, the Americans fought and won America against the British crown. Americans were British at that point so technically the British were fighting the British over a British colony. They were still British for a small time after until they officially became independent. Ever since ww2 we've become the strongest of allies! They're our brethren after all. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 The UK is the mother country only USA has grown up to be a very big strong young man💪💪💪💪💪💪
Conquering 1/4 of the Earth, Creating the foundations of civil rights and rule of law in the West, building up and helping to form new nations, The near eradication of slavery globally, the invention of many important maritime tools and methods, the defeat of Nazi Germany, The Central Powers and Napoleon. Creating the foundation of the American Republic. And resisting every forgin attempt at conqest for several hundred years and many more things are kinda proof of Britons place in history
There's 40 shillings on the drum To those who will volunteer to come To list' and fight the foe today Over the hills and far away O'er hills and O'er the main Through the Flanders, Portugal, and Spain King George demands an we obey, Over the hills and far away When duty calls me, I must go To stand and face another foe But part of me will always stray Over the hills and far away O'er hills and O'er the main Through the Flanders, Portugal, and Spain King George demands an we obey, Over the hills and far away [MUSIC] If I should fall to rise no more As many comrades did before Ask the fifes and drums to play Over the hills and far away O'er hills and O'er the main Through the Flanders, Portugal, and Spain King George demands an we obey, Over the hills and far away Then fall in lads behind the drum Colours blazing like the sun Along the road to come what may Over the hills and far away O'er hills and O'er the main Through the Flanders, Portugal, and Spain King George demands an we obey, Over the hills and far away x3
The song is older than King George, the first recorded version has 'Queen Anne commands...' There are versions written much later as well, but since the Sharpe TV series, they don't get sung.
first let me say as an USian from Cali, the shot starting at 3:33 is JUST awesome; secondly I recall this song from the PBS series 'Sharp's Rifles' with Sean Bean (who didn't get killed!)
Oh yes, I certainly know about 'Those Maniacs'! Let it be said that my screen name is a bit of "Kilrathi trash talk"--if you're a fan of the wing commander series;
Sharpe is horribly inaccurate because the rifles were not special and also they spit their musket balls down the barrel? Your asking for your gun to blow up if you do that
@@shrekzebee4435 I was just about the Blood and Iron. Cool. It's still fun. But the bayonet is the fastest way to get kills, and your team doesn't do crap to protect from hordes of bots, but it's still fun.
Capt. Jack Aubrey: Do you want to see a guillotine in Piccadilly? Crew: No! Capt. Jack Aubrey: Want to call that raggedy-ass Napoleon your king? Crew: No! Capt. Jack Aubrey: You want your children to sing the "La Marseillaise?" Crew: NO!
Old England? Ohh you mean the one that took over around a quarter of the world and had one of the best fighting forces, oh ya that's true. Oh what's that they, they killed over 1 million people during its colonizations & wars (both offensive and defensive), and around 29 million Indians with starvation (number are disputed, really the whole thing is debated but the truth is that the British took actions and adopted policies which led to many millions dying). I'm not saying the British Empire was bad, but it wasn't exactly good either.
The British Empire was the greatest force for good the world has ever seen, and it's loss is a terrible suffering. The worst thing it ever did was indeed how it administered India however, and should not be forgotten.
Nope, George was Elector (Churfürst) of Hannover as well as king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (and Ireland). The Hessians were on contract for the Brits here; their crowned ruler was somebody else than that of Britain and Hannover.
my teacher in year 6 was teaching us about ww2 and she said "over the hills" and i said "and far away" they thought i was singing the telietubbies theme tune.
The British are some the strongest men upon this land. We Americans are honored to have descended from them from colonists into a strong alliance! 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧
The original version of this song came from Queen Anne's War, and it's terrible to realize that for the next hundred years, from Queen Anne through 3 King Georges, that the battlefields remained mostly "Flanders, Portugal and Spain".
A beautiful song about the happiness of an ordinary man when he gets the chance to separate his arms and legs from his body and shed blood for the flag, the crown, parties and rich bastards.
Young men have rallied to the sound of the drum since before recorded history began. It's who we are. It's homo sapiens method of choice for settling disputes. Old or young, rich or poor, makes no difference.
