In most cases with opening it carefully and resoldering cold or broken solders it will works fine again as a new one. I repaired a lot ot them using this method.

Working on my 1988 300SE that has been set for a while. Your videos are a wealth of knowledge. BTW, I never trust a mechanic with clean hands. ;

I had one of these relays go bad on my 87 300td wagon, as well as the symptoms you discussed, the faulty relay was also causing the AC compressor to not engage, and a replacement of the ovp relay solved it as well.

i had my 190e with high idle and hard start issues, no abs lights, changed the OVPR and all was fixed

Hello. On the 190e m103 engines did this relay supply ground and power to the egr solenoid and the upshift delay? My 92’ 190e was diagnosed with no ground being picked up by the egr solenoid (a code 16) plus the transmission has a jolt when getting out of 1st gear.

I'm experiencing a lot of these same issues I'm my 88 560SEL. The car has left me stranded twice in the last month and had to have it towed after trying to start the car several times and having no luck. As soon as we roll it off the tow truck at the mechanic it starts right up. And runs fine for weeks. Noticed the SRS light and battery light turning on randomly. I ordered a fuel pump relay, over volt protection relay, and voltage regulator. Hopefully I get rid of any Gremlins...

What about the 82 300SD I have a tach the went bad. It started working and would come on periodically but not doesn’t work at all now. Could this be the problem?

I have a 1995 SL500 and I'm wondering if my problem is this I've literally replaced almost everything there is to replace and I still cannot get acceleration I'm still at a loss of power

I have an 84 500SEL with the same problem. Replaced so much and still…idles fine but cannot accelerate, no power, won’t get above 1100-1200 rpm without stalling down to nothing and backfiring/missing badly. Ignition is fine and no vacuum leaks. Fuel pressure is good. Any ideas?

Great video but I hope I’m not asking you to repeat yourself here but my car had a very poor stuttering pick but… it starts first time but it’s very rough running… we did some ajustments abs everything you could think of but no change so I think this could be an issue. Please tell me, do you think this could be it?

I have a 91-mod 190e w201 which is really hard to start cold (looks like it helps a bit to play with the gasspedal to get it to start while cranking it) and when it finally starts, after several attempts, the RPM is just enough to keep it running and its rough idling (sometimes it dies right after), after maybe some seconds i can carefully increase the RPM a bit by slightly pressing the gasspedal to help it run some RPM higher just to make the car idle a bit higher, but when releasing the pedal it goes rough by it self. BUT when the temperature rises the RPM rises steadily. When the car is warm it idles at around 1250rpm and 1500rpm. The ABS light is constantly on. I have tried several new OVP`s and all of them makes my ABS-pump to make a buzzing sound when turning the ignition on. Makes no sence?! I need help so bad...

It also sputters very easily when driving slow, both warm and cold.

My 1990 300 E takes like 10 tries to start from cold. I switched out the Voltage regulator and now the coolant light is on / tach illumination light went out. Did I short circuit something? Car still takes a million tries to start so thinking this might be it.

So would a 1990 300SEL be equipped with the two fuse OVP relay or the one fuse OVP relay?

w201 e190 1.8 ............. my problem the headlights turn at random . i think its a bad EARTH to front left headlight ......?

Hi my w202 abs light come on some times.after brake once or twice and stop and start again abs light is off.some times rpm meter doesnt work in start up.after accelarating start working.what will be the cause

Great video. I need advice on this OVP in my 94 w202 C280. After a battery replacement, I have only 8 volts commanding the coil of a perfectly tested fuel pump relay. No pump sound with key at ignition position. So, the car just cranks. As a note: the radio antenna motor that always starts when the negative battery post is connected is gone too. Could be this OVP relay? It feels hot when I touch it. Thanks for your help!

Hi piere nice video. I have a 1989 w124 230e with the 8v 2.3l m102 engine. I nothing is wrong with the ovp relay in it as its brand new but just for shits and giggles I removed the ovp relay and the engine refused to run. Is this normal? Also it has hard start problems when hot. And for your information it has brand new bosch injectors and manifold gaskets along with brand new fuel distributor rubber boot along with brand new original mercedes idle Air control valve hoses.

Would you recommend the installation of a cone air filter intake for a 84 300sd has a oil separating system. Im trying to fix the loose floating air box. Wouldn’t i then get hot air from the engine compartment? Im interested more turbo whine!!

no...I hate those stupid cone filters....just stick with the factory set up, and use genuine mercedes parts. the cone filters actually let too much dirt and dust in and will cause premature engine wear.

you may want to consider installing a kkk turbo if your 84 doesn;t already have one...they make the most noise!

i have a 85 300d turbo diesel dead tach, i noticed the sensor is missing can you point where i can get the sensor cheap? thanks

is your OVP working? the 85 doesn't use an amp. the ovp on these is in the fuse box and a bad one will keep the tach from working

im missing that round sensor in the engine compartment didnt check the ovp yet but looked at the fuses and the ovp visually it looks okay

yes, they use one as well. it's by the fuel pump and ac relays next to the brake booster.

wonderful video as usual do u mind listing the part numbers for those, esp for w126 gen 1 500 sel/sec i feel i like i should just buy a few spares just in case my sec has idle around 1000 but not abs light on...my sel just had cams and TC work done and we got rid of the lamda crap and it idles around 500 but has never felt more powerful

1992 500SL dies after driving it for 30 seconds, then won’t start again just crank, until the next day it’ll start again and then die after driving for like 30 seconds
