I've always had OCD. It's like it was built into me as a default setting. I don't remember ever being without it. My very first memories are of me performing compulsions at 5 years old, crying and not understanding why I couldn't stop. So... I have a wealth of experience in this field. :) Your videos are everything I need. They're just incredible. I'm in a "safe space" because I've been taking medications for a long time. However, I started feeling my safe wall being penetrated by the exacerbation of OCD, and I was slowly but surely going back to square one. But the information that you provide is unearthly. Man, I can't express how much you make my life better and better. Personally, it's so much easier for me to prevent physical compulsions. I would say at this point I don't have any because it was relatively easy to let them go. It's the mental compulsions that are MUCH HARDER for me to deal with. And boy oh boy, they've been ruining my life since I can remember myself. I do as you say (not without exceptions when OCD takes over, but still) and I just... feel unbothered by the thoughts? I let them be, I don't click on the ad. Sometimes I just agree with them because it's too much. But I know for sure that just a few years ago these exact thoughts would have eaten me alive and I would have ended up at the mental hospital again. Thank you.

This might sound mean but I think it’s great. A long story… I’ve been a little ‘on the mend’. Meaning the rumination hasn’t been bad and the feelings of doom have been quiet. This morning I was hit hard by it. Horrible knot in the back of my neck with the feeling that I was going to hurt anyone I see. On the drive to work I nearly ran over a puppy. I stopped to make sure I didn’t hit it, otherwise I’d be ruminating on it all day. Got back in my vehicle only to have another dog playfully run in front of my vehicle. Stressed I yelled at the thing. It spooked it enough to get out of the way. I heard the momma dog (not a small dog) start barking after that. I thought ‘great now she’s going to start chasing my vehicle every time she sees it now) Even more stressed I decided to listen to an OCD and Anxiety video to see if I can pick up something to help with this feeling of doom. I came to this video and for the most part it was background noise to what was going on in my head. Then at the end of the video there was that song. I heard it and thought ‘that’s a terrible song!’😂 Snapped me right out of that doom phase and I’ve had a good morning since.

I worked in hospitals many years, after covid I became very germophobic and I may had developed ocd. Unfortunately I was not able to get help due to the huge shortage of staff and over time it made it worse. kaiser employees were on strike they couldn't attend me I had to wait 1 month to get an appointment, and when I was close to my appointment dates they canceled on me because of the staff and covid shortage. I also tried getting help outside kaiser but unfortunately, by the time I was able to get help I had felt in a very deep depression and became an alcoholic and I lost my job It's been almost 3 years and I'm still not the same, not the same in a way that even although I'm no longer working in those situations I still struggle with my daily life tasks. I successfully dealt with the obsession of locking de door a few yeas ago using this technique. Now a face a difficult challenge. I also suffer from sleep walking. For the past year or so, I wake up after just about 30 minutes of going to sleep thinking that I am dying (I am sleep walking at this moment so I am not fully conscious). During these episodes I obsess over the need to take "some pill" to save me. After a few moments I wake up and realize I am not dying. The challenge is that I can't apply this technique because I am not fully conscious. It is very frustrating and it makes me feel hopeless not to be able to control it. Do you have any suggestions?

One argument my compulsion goves when i dont do it, is that" see u avoided me that day, i came back, one day u have to do", which is uncomfortable.

@@ApexFlex-pn8wq yes please do erp but with a professional therapist or do the master your ocd course. You can do it and most likely you find the fear won’t happen. Good luck.

Yk i have really bad mental compulsions and im 16… im obsessed with comparing myself to others and feeling like im not enough and feeling bad about myself and whenever literally smth really minor has to happen to just trigger these obsessions of feeling horrible about myself.. and i start comparing myself and get anxious becoz i don’t wanna feel like this.. and nothing seems to help and that monster inside my head knows that im doing the right thing rn to overcome this so it stops me by pulling me into intense rumination… it gets so bad😩 and literally any behaviour of mine can trigger those obsessions of feeling bad .. like even writing my true feelings here in this comment would make me feel horrible about myself like why can’t i be strong this n that.. i just expect things to be absolutely out of this world perfect!! So bad!

Search for Dr. Greenberg articles online. He has good technique for working against rumination (RF-ERP). Also do loop tape with your worst fears and play it while you’re busy.

The only part I disagree with is, but there’s nothing wrong with washing your hands a lot. As long as you don’t make your hands start bleeding frequent handwashing is fine.

Hi Nathan, is your treatment course tailored to each person or is it a general type of treatment. I feel like i need personal guidance to help me learn how to stop partaking in mental checking of my body. It seems like sensorimotor ocd with regard to eating / swallowing. I dont know how to disengage with the internal checker while eating. Had this 5 years now. I have loads of books and have been to therapy but haven't done erp yet. I find it hard to know how to apply these teachings to myself.

It’s designed to help with all themes of OCD because we aren’t really treating OCD themes. We’re treating the OCD. I do have special videos for different themes though.

I have moral scrupulousity (without religion) and it is the worst thing I've ever gone through. I could not stop doing the compulsion of confessing to my family. It got so bad that I went to stay with my brother for 6 weeks. I've gotten quite a bit better, but I'm scared to go home and be around the people I used to confess to because my ocd has made them a trigger, and I hate that it's done that. I return home in one week. Do you have any suggestions for when I'm overwhelmed by old triggers. My compulsions were so intense I felt out of control.

Hey Nathan, is it possible that watching the videos are actually a compulsion? I struggle with constant problem solving for my own anxiety and now fear that reviewing the videos is one of my compulsions. Thank you so much for your videos and all that you are doing to help!

Not an expert but if you're doing it to get relief, it might be a compulsion and it might be smart to treat it as such :) but even smarter to find a good therapist and ask them about it!
