My dang T7 gets stuck in 6” of sand all around the SoCal. Ocotillos weeks especially 🥵 Factory tires just don’t cut it in the soft stuff. But factory tires got me into the devils hole, pumpkin patch, all over anza borrego. True knobbies and it’ll be a great time! Terra crew 💯

Sand was my undoing years back when I was trying to learn how to ride dirt. I didn't have anyone skilled to learn from, and was just winging it. I lost all confidence and went back to just riding street. Now I recently moved to Arizona, and our house is literally backed up to open desert. I HAVE to get a dirt bike and take advantage of this amazing landscape. These videos are so incredibly helpful and give me hope that I can get back out there and have a better chance at success.

I love your approach to tackling this issue… going back to basics instead of just saying “Do this in the sand”.

This was a great video. I wasn't here to learn anything, but I enjoy watching someone else learn and gain confidence.

Invaluable techniques and love Lisa's enthusiasm for challenging her fears. I rode a pebble-covered beach in Wellington, NZ today that's like being stuck in a ball pit, every rock rolls over the next rock and so on, which makes it practically impossible to move from a standstill regardless of your tire grip. Even 4x4's are practically useless without the benefit of momentum on this kind of terrain, but it's a huge amount of fun once you get the hang of it and loosen up.

This was so good to watch,❤ Lisa's smile getting increasingly bigger thro' out the lesson. An enormous help for the future adventures of Lisa and Jase with seeing Lisa not knackering herself and giving up and Jase saving on boot soles 😉 doing recovery. Great info i rode death valley two years ago with a family member who has alot of sand exp, i was on my honda 650l fully loaded for 8 days of camping and riding i had to learn sand! There is alot of it never crashed i did fall going over Mengel pass that was ugly now im riding a bmw 1200GS 06 model love it have not done sand yet more weight! I love the bike ill over come the sand!

Practice in a deep sand with a proper light dirt bike and you will see how much difference it makes. The problem is that people pick heavy overpowered bikes which is not a good starting point for learning off-road skills

Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Was wondering if you guys have ever tried the GT216AA "FATTY" FRONT 90/100 from Goldentyre. We live near the desert and my wife hated taking her KTM 350 into the sand. She is barely 5 foot so when it comes to sand she is either riding or not...there is no padding, etc. After we put the fatty on, her entire attitude and confidence changed. She loved it so much, I put it on my 250 trail bike and what a difference. The float in the sand is outstanding and even rocky washes and creek beds are improved. If I was a competition enduro rider or something, maybe I might not like the slower feel, but a weekend warrior bouncing from a 990 to a 250,, it was a great addition. I've heard others complain about road behavior, but I don't buy it. Safe travels!

Excellent lesson Dusty. Even though I am experienced, I took away a few good tips. Lisa and Jason have always had my respect and good on her for increasing her comfort zone on sand. For me it was due or die regarding sand the few times I have gone on specific off road trails. Michigan is just a sandy place. And still only have street tires on my 1200gs >.

That’s probably a bit more informative than what I tell people about sand riding which is just ride faster lol

Id prbably descride that sand as wet sand. Top end Australia cape york. Has an easy bypass to gunshot creek. Well thats what the map says. Its in reality 17km of 6 to 12 inch super dry and soft sand. Pure hell! Great video. But im gunna also say. "That's not deep soft sand". "This is deep soft sand" in my best Mick Dundee impersonation. Sounds like the BAHA boys are thinking the same.

Question on tires for sand riding. True lightweight dual sports have relatively narrow knobby front tires while larger adv bikes have fatter profile tiires typically with a milder tread pattern. For riding deep sand is narrow better than fatter?

As an Arizonan, I find the trials type tires to be bad in the sand (looks like one on your rear).

That bike looks more like something you race in the Dakar with rather than travel around the world. These guys must be going on hardcore tracks.

Not clutch in, never clutch in. That was the one bad habit I had to get trained out of me

You might think it's a bit of a joke falling of sideways but if you are on a slope and you can't touch the ground you have a lot further to fall and there may be obstacles on the ground you could hit your head on or your shoulder, I can flat foot my xr250r but I have fallen off it sideways just sitting on it because there's not much flat ground around here, that bike is way to tall for that girl.

the elephant in the room is even as a grown man you have to take the blow to your ego and lower your bike if youre not going to ever use the travel that fits your skills. She struggles because there is no second chance for her once it starts to tip, not tall enough and not skilled enough. She needs to take four inches out of that suspension at a minimum, she's not riding hard enough to need it. I don't have the skills either so lowering mine to be able to save myself has saved me on new radiators and levers.

wanna cure your sand inexperience...ride Baja....you wont think about sand the same way again. LOL

OMG. Trying to teach a goldfish to fly. Develop competencies before plan a new makting show. You will not leartn riding from these "adventure riding instructors"
