As always Hardy I appreciate you taking the time to sit and talk with me. Great subject we all struggle with at some point. Hopefully those who struggle with this find some inspiration!

I love this discussion and I'm so glad I found this channel. Keep up the great work! I just turned 50 years old. My story is the cautionary tale version of Randy's. I loved art until my porfolio was crushed in a review in my early 20's, which shook my confidence enough that I settled into a regular profession because I wasn't sure if I actually had the chops for art. I've been working in the medical profession for almost 30 years, with the art always calling to me. I try and keep up with it, but I'm never satisified. I'm not as good as everyone else, and I don't know if I could be, because I don't have the time. I don't have the time because I have responsibilities. I use whatever time I have to practice, but I can't seem to break through. Maybe I can't break through because I'm just not good enough. Maybe I never was. Yet, I wake up and the second thought I have every single day is, "what am I going to draw and when I'll be able to find a little time to do it?" So the imposter syndrome is definitely there, but the passion is as well. Hopefully the right one prevails in the end.

Keep pushing! It’s never too late! I had the same feelings as you. I felt like I was spinning my tires and watching my peers pass me constantly. Matter of fact, they still do sometimes! I’m a slow learner. The best thing I did was find help and others to work with like Hardy. Keep trying and don’t give up. I always feared having regrets later if I didn’t give it everything I had now.

Great interview Hardy and Randy! This is something I fight all the time! It’s gotten a lot better since going through the course, and I’m learning every day how important it is to gain the confidence via practicing the skills that I’ve been taught. On the point of messiness: I end up using the warp and liquify tool a lot to do just that… kinda breaks me out of taking the piece too seriously, and like you said. By the time I’m done I like it better! Anyway, fantastic stuff! And it was great that I got a chance to catch the zoom this time!

I've just watched Randy's portfolio. Amazing stuff. I guess you took Master Course from Hardy. I'm still struggling with it.

Randy is awesome. He's actually teaching a workshop on weapon and prop design tomorrow on the DPS discord server if you want to see more of his stuff in action. And yes, imposter syndrome comes for us all - sorry to hear it's gnawing at you.

The best way to fix this is to go to a therapist and talk a bunch about your childhood or some other trauma you have probably forgotten. Someone at some point made you feel like you are not good enough.

Good advice. I think that everyone gets made to feel inadequate at some point growing up but it's an especially acute thing with artists (I think) since we have to put ourselves out there so visibly. Thanks for the perspectives.

yes this is correct its usually linked to some sort of past trauma as a child because as a kid your mind is programmed to remember things very vividly.
