Ajahn Brahm offers many great ways of overcoming phobias, such as using awareness, compassion, kindness, catching it early, relaxing the body and so on. Ajahn reveals that some phobias can be traced to previous lives and finding out the reason behind your phobia can take away a lot of the fear, which takes away a lot of the problems.

I have this irrational fear of large architecture (skyscrapers, bridges, and even open spaces), which has been really hindering me with my personal life. I want to switch jobs, but they only way is to go over one of three bridges, and into Philadelphia. I have been over the bridges a million times, and the world's tallest & fastest roller coaster, but recently it gives me REALLY bad headaches, I get dizzy, and I begin to panic. I'm not sure if the physical pain causes anxiety, or the fear of the unknown that sets me off, or the fear of being trapped, or just the "what if", but its incredibly debilitating. I listen to all of your speeches as they are posted, and they are the best thing I can and have used to help me get through things, and I hope this one will serve me just as well. I have to go over a bridge tomorrow for an interview, and I really really hope that I can get up the courage to make it over tomorrow. Thank you Arjahn Brahm

I am from the UK and I find your talks so inspiring. I wish I had a temple that I could attend where I live. Your talks are the next best thing thank you

I enjoyed the comment about 'back of mindfulness' and brushing your teeth the same way each day :)

Love the talks. A bit difficult to listen to these days. Not sure what happened, quite distorted, the sound quality used to be very good. Possibly two mics, one dedicated direct line to the sound board for broadcast? You may have already tried this. No worries, not so bad that I won't continue listening. Sadhu.

Could your methods help emetophobia? I worry about having panic attacks in situations where I cannot easily escape (meetings, lectures, interviews). Then in those places I worry I will throw up - the panic attacks feel so real - like a will throw up but I never do. I am scared about interviews and exams, not because of my performance but because I may have a panic attack and need to leave. Would mindfulness and meditation help to calm me and prevent this vicious, self prophesying cycle?

These talks should be available as audio only so the band with is saved. Why were the audio talks discontinued on I tunes? Itunes was the best way for the talks. I wish these talks were available on itunes again.

I have one phobia, a huge phobia of spiders, but I when I was a kid I wasn't afraid of any insect. I used to catch Black Widows all the time, and never was bit by any insect that caused threatening health issues. Snakes are great, love'em. But it's too damn frightening for some reason to try and overcome the fear by holding a spider in my hands. I don't get where the fear of spiders came from? Past life? Well great, still afraid of them. Studied them immensely. Still afraid of them. Don't hate them, just have arachnophobia and can't sleep if they're somewhere in my room. There are spiders that can harm you which are prominent in my area; the Brown Recluse. So... yeah.

I used to be ok with flying in an airplane and quite enjoyed it until the age of about 23 and then suddenly I haven't been able to do it for the last 10 years or so. Just the thought of it makes my hands sweat. Could past life stuff come up at a certain point? I cant seem to put my finger on why this has happened. Afraid of heights and flying...

***** no it's not. the audio is distorted like it was clipping while it was being recorded. I'm not sure what happened, because the video and audio of these recordings used to be very good. It's like someone started filming these with a potato.

***** The audio is very distorted. I've been writing to BSWA asking why the audio quality of these talks have gone down. They never replied. The distortion is bearable for some people but really bad for hearing-impaired people who have to turn up the volume, and when you do that the distortion gets amplified too.

With all due respect, I require solid evidence before I accept reincarnation as true. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
@lele7design

Can you provide solid evidence of the opposite?
@Alexisme2012
@Alexisme2012 10 лет назад
lele7design Irrelevant. I can't provide solid evidence that we don't go to Fairyland after we die either, or that we don't turn into giant raisins on Jupiter. Any reasonable person will require solid evidence before believing any claim made about what happens to consciousness after death. Unproven anecdotes and the fact the Ajahn Brahm is a nice guy aren't sufficient.

Alexisme2012 I am a Giant Raisin From Jupiter, and i resent that. I am tired of all this anti-Raisinism on the internet.
@Alexisme2012

Don't worry; you're hypersensitivity is characteristic of Jovian Giant Raisins in their Early Grape Stage, and you'll develop a thicker skin later on. I was just trying to accelerate the process.

agree with that, but the evidence can never be provided by external sources, can only come from within
