The biggest challenge I have had to overcome yet in Escape from Tarkov, is conquering "Gear Fear". Today, I want to share some of my experiences in kicking this fear to the curb.

some of the budget guns like the ADAR still put in work, helps with forcing you to make your shots count

Look there's a saying in Tarkov that goes: "if you put something in your stash and never use it, then it's already lost." Not only that but it costs stash space, so it's even worse than losing it.

You are absolutely right. You kill a guy with a fully decked out gun, good armor etc, you save it "for later" in your stash. Later never comes. Wipe ends and you just wasted 20 inventory slots of your stash. My advice is either use it or sell it. If you have the ammo for the gun use it and you will see how powerful good gear is. Sell it and use that money to buy guns, gear for the next 2-3 raids. Gear is a powerfull tool but it is not all, positioning and initiative are most important. Say you have some great gear but you get cought off guard, you probably die. Good gear just gives you a better chance of survival, lets you survive more dire situations and kill other guys faster.

I had one encounter that defined my experience with Tarkov. Moving through high brush with the squad in the forest. "You guys see that?" "Yeah." "No." Instantly domed. Still had no idea where from. Definitely not my kind of game. On the other hand, did a 0 to hero run with my PMC, running around with a 1911 three mags and no other gear. Ran onto a player scav and dumped half a mag into him. Scared the shit out of him and he started dumping shotgun rounds through a doorway wildly, missed all of them. He moves back into the kitchen to start bandaging and I dump a full mag into him. He then starts sending shotgun rounds through the doorway all over again (and missing all of them) before bailing through the window. He starts running away and I chase him around the building shooting him in the ass the entire time. He finally goes down with my last bullet and I extract with everything on him. Silly game.

One easy method of overcomming gear fear is to check for some cheap and reliable setups (gun, armor, meds etc). If you are able to buy 5 of those run them. You don't need a top tier gun to kill scavs or semi geard PMCs. What is most important is to get to know the maps, spawn points, extraction points, how to navigate and move around the map. If you will have 5 sets or enough cash in your stash waiting for you, you will fear less and less and will start to think about what you are doing, what is your next move. You will start actively playing the game not shake in fear and sit in a bush for the whole raid. Don't get me wrong sitting in a bush is a prefcetly fine strategy, ratting, camping are just strategies and they work fine. Not every guy is a chad from the start. If you just started you don't need to zoom around the map. Take it slow. Learn the basics. Most importantly trust your gut. If you feal something might be to dangerous or that you should go the other way around do so. Surviving is the most important part for new players. It is not CoD you don't need that 40:0 KD. Oh and remember there is always on more player. Don't just rush the guy you just killed, he might have a friend or two waiting in an ambush.

Another good thing i heard that helps with gear fear.. is that your going to loose it no matter what... rather it is in raid or in wipe.

I’ve already started playing and I have already experienced the pain and bs tarkov gives you and slowly going through the stages of grief 😂

I think for me if I was to play again, would be to go in with the mindset that I am just going in for mostly kills with PMCs or Scavs. Just no stress and overall focus on having to loot items on the map or complete quests. Change and adjust into the next wipe or once I get a handle on overall combat. Though for myself I don't have as much time to play now and learn all the maps.

The way to do Tarkov is with the RFB and some AP ammo, like that dude you shot had. I think it's the M80 ammunition. It's highly cost effective. No more, no less. Perfectly balanced.

What helped me was learning how to make millions, gear is only valuable relative to your wealth, at least imo. I get big gear fear when my stash value is less than $500k, but now that I am always at least above 5mil, I am not afraid. Learn how to make enough money to easily buy whatever you lost and you're good

Really want to get into Tarkov because of all the stuff BattleState is doing with the game's story and lore. The whole thing with TerraGroup's shady-as-fuck dealings in the area and abroad, the ongoing conflict between BEAR and USEC, the Scavs getting bolder and tooling up more and more, I just really like the world. (Also, I love AK rifles and this game has a ton, that's another point of interest for me lol)
