In this video we discuss how to properly select overcurrent protection settings, with an emphasis on SEL "U" curves. We discuss how to select the pickup, curve type, and time dial of overcurrent protection elements in protection relays and how to ensure protection coordination of different relays in a substation.

Very informative Course. I just finished University and Started at SEL 2 Months ago and this has helped me alot. Would it be possible to have the TCC spreadsheet include the C -Type Curves?

Hello Sir. Great video and explanation. At run-time 8.07 you mentioned about using power system modeling to ensure the Pickup Setting is above the normal load and sensitive enough to detect the "Minimum Fault Current". Do you have a video explaining this in details how to do this step by step ? Thank you.

Hi Yong, we don't at the moment, but we'll consider it for a future video. Thanks for the recommendation!

Do we need to know the maximum fault current as well? Or just the pickup current ?
@romeroengineering
@romeroengineering Год назад
Hi Malek, generally you would be worried about making sure the overcurrent element is sensitive enough to detect all faults, so you would set your pickup below the minimum fault current

@@romeroengineering hello...Do we have any calculative method to find this minimum fault current or this is more like a situation based?? would appreciate your insight.
