Walrus Audio just released their brand new overdrive pedal, the Ages Five-State Overdrive. If you want to know how it sounds and what makes this pedal unique, check out the video.
The guys at Walrus sent my over the Ages to try it out and boy oh boy... it's exactly my kind of overdrive. What's even better, it has 5 different overdrive modes built in.

Love the sound, and really like the art/style... like, a lot. Thanks for the demo, Kris. Spectacular playing, as per usual.

This pedal blends so well Kris kept using it at the minimal blend setting (the pedal gives crunch and cowbell to your current tone but doesn't compress or color that much). So I ended up enamoured of Kris' amp instead of the pedal 🤣 It is fantastic, though. It sounds also amazing with a Quilter Mach 3 of mine. And I kept this amp because of the fantastic tones at minimum weight and footprint. This review, even though "biased", really stood the test of time and actually showcased the greatness of the pedal. Thanks Kris!

Very nicely done Kris. That is a sweet pedal and sounds really nice. For what it does it can also be subtle and I love that. The opening song was killer in a haunting way and I caught the "sideways" Robin Trower as well. BoS is one of my all time favs! Be well!

Thanks a lot! :) This one is really close to my heart, it does what I love and how I love it. It’s right up there with the KoT, Pantheon and co. It just gives you a different flavor and features. Which are really impressive by the way to be honest. Take care!

Interesting... but more so your playing. I love your style. Now. At some point, and I know your preference, I would be so interested for a Bugera G20 review. Many have been done but not with your style, which I love. Stay safe my friend. Living large in Sebastian Florida. Year round warmth

It's been a long time since an OD pedal made me just sit back and play with a big smile on my face. I went from my SG to my Junior to the Tele, and my most finicky Strat which sounded glorious through it. The modes are awesome and I absolutely love it with other pedals. Thanks for the great demo.

Being in and from Oklahoma, I have such a soft spot for Oklahoma companies even more so with Walrus. Yeah I’m a fan boy but they aren’t afraid to do something different. When everything seems done to death they will do something from left field. This pedal is one, might take some time to really learn to use, because it seems so versatile and different. Love your playing as usual, and the way you break it down. Love all your videos, but is it getting close to time to hot rod something? Lol. I loved the shell pink over burst bass. Would love to see a relic’d big flake sparkle on a Junior. Just a though. Much love from Tulsa brother.

Another great overdrive? I did not spare enough for Lark or Fat bee and now you are teasing with another great product :D
@KrisBarocsi
@KrisBarocsi 4 года назад
Haha! Sorry mate, companies are faster than our wallets unfortunately. The Ages is very different though, it’s nothing like the Fat Bee. So the question is: which sound inspires you more. Go for that pedal first, that’s probably gonna be the right one. Cheers

One of the most straight up, no BS players on Utube; Kris thinks about what constitutes played out dad and tired blues riffs, - and goes elsewhere.As in , let me play what could actually be a song part.He can lay back, or firebomb. No nonsense with the equipment; think it's a European thing to worry more about what works, vs. what your band mate will covet.We still have privileges in the States, which more often translate into a waste of thought, money, and time. What's cool? Doing your own thing ,- and that's it.Find it and follow it.

Though you're asking a lot in trying to narrow it down to one video because I've liked so many, I really loved the shootout amongst all those fantastic overdrives, and how at the end, you broke them down into categories at which they excelled. It's too easy and a bit slavish to just say they're all great because it would make them out to all be exactly the same, right?

Hi Kris. I have this question: as it have this 2 band eq (bass and treble) it looks like a transparent overdrive, but listening to your playing, the pedal seems to be like a mid range-ish overdrive. So, in your experience, does it boost the mids or is it transparent? Thanks!!
@KrisBarocsi
@KrisBarocsi 3 года назад
Grandes Guitarristas hey, it does boost the midrange, yes. But in a really cool way, not nearly as much as a tube screamer or aboss overdrive. Cheers

I love it! I’ve never tried a Revv amp, how do you think this pedal will sound on a Marshall style amp (I’m using an Origin 50). Great demo, as always, horns up for you!
@KrisBarocsi
@KrisBarocsi 4 года назад
The Origin 50 is very good with pedals so I’m sure the Ages will have a similar sound to what you hear in my video. My Revv has more lower midrange and bass than most Marshalls but that’s not an issue thanks to the bass knob on the Ages. I’m very impressed by it to be honest. Cheers!

Kris, Revv G2 or Walrus Ages?
@KrisBarocsi
@KrisBarocsi 3 года назад
Woahh super hard question man. They are so different. The G2 sounds way more like an amp (british chunky gain character) and the Ages reminds me of my King of Tone (Blues Breaker pedal type character). I love both a lot and use them for very different sounds. If I HAD to choose I think I'd go for the G2 but only because I have a King of Tone for the Ages-type sounds already.

Jeez that’s some great playing. I’m guessing all the videos on this pedal are paid promotions since they all released at the same time?
@KrisBarocsi
@KrisBarocsi 4 года назад
Well if getting the pedal for my work is paid promotion (which technically is) then yes. This doesn’t change the fact that the Ages is very impressive though. Haha! If you check out my channel you’ll see that I don’t demo every new gear. I’m very selective and only shoot videos for gear that I personally find awesome. I know that might sound selfish but this way I can always be honest about the „test subjects“ and only show stuff I would buy for myself. Cheers man!
