You failed by not disassembling the fan, cleaning it and by not blowing out the fins. That is where the air blockage is and brushing the outside won't do it.
The problem will arise again and very soon, as you didn't eliminate the real cause. Cooler and ventilation is covered with thick dust cloth. 1 use soft clothe and spirit to clean all dust, because if u don't it will be there again. The foundation of all dust growth is dust which covered surface and u remove it with soft clothe and spirit. 2 if u don't ground yourself, u will burn something. I would recommend to ground yourself. 3 The thermal paste in modern laptops has very poor quality, so I would say it's priority number 1 to change it.
Got the same laptop. probably should do this to it. Its overheating like crazy and freezes when you load MS Word 2013. even after restoring it to factory settings. its too hot to touch. Get blue screens of death often. fan grinds and buzzes, if you slap it it stops making the noise. its quite loud. dont know what it is. Sometimes it lags on loading windows then just shuts off on its own. i think when its hot if you try turn it on its shuts off right away. other times when it loads into windows CPU utilization is at 100% and sound is distorted. a restart kind of fixes it untill it happens again. AND also screen is stuffed so always outputting to a monitor. Reckon a fan clean and thermal paste should extend its life or at least get it working properly?
+Goran Svraka Hi, Thanks for watching my video, you can try cleaning the fans and adding up new thermal paste, make sure to put evrything back properly. If that doesn't work you can buy a spare fan replacement for your laptops model and that will fix the issue.
I've got the same laptop as you which i just purchased off someone on CL and i might have to perform that task as well. However, the biggest problem i have is because i'm trying to "hackintosh" mine and realized that there's a whitelist in the bios for the wifi card. I need to remove the whitelist, any input? My model is hp pavilion dm4-3099se Beats Edition.
I'm a novice at pulling apart laptops and this tutorial is way too fast and cuts too much between removing parts for me. I only need to replace the palmrest on mine.
Hi Dee, yeah sorry if this video cuts too much. By the way, if you're replacing the palm rest that would be more like replacing the whole laptop frame. I don't have this laptop anymore but most laptop frames include the palm rest.
I cleaned all laptop (changed thermopast) but my cpu speed is 75 celsius degree and it's really hot. when i'm doing something and using gpu too temperature is 90 celsius degree. so how can i fix it? or change my cpu ??
i hate HP, you have to completely take it apart and even remove the keyboard just to clean the freaking fan. thats like having to get the whole engine out of your car just to change the air filter. i have a clevo laptop and the same doors that let you change the ram gives tou access to the cooler also.
Hi, Do you mean the CMOS battery? I am not sure exactly where, it could be just near the HDD or somewhere in the motherboard, it is quite easy to find as it is like a watch battery.
For anyone commenting on hearing the fan still work but the performance is still awful its most likely the thermal paste. It has dried up and should be replaced with new thermal paste.
Mine was overheating for the longest time. I just ended up taking everything apart including the fan and changing the thermal paste. Used rubbing alcohol to remove old one and artic silver 5 to replace the paste. Computer runs super quiet now. Love this computer. Have an ssd and HDD installed in it with 16 gigs of ram. Thing is a monster.
+Julian Dsilva Curious, what is an ssd and HDD? i currently own this laptop but went ahead and bought myself an imac instead to work on some 4k gopro videos. my dm4 was too slow even working w/1080p files. I'm not too tech-savvy but im opened to learn if it means i can make my laptop competent
+Dior Paint hey so an ssd is basically solid state drive hard drive. it doesn't have a moving part like regular hard drives (HDD). thus everything is lot faster with an ssd. maybe upgrading your dm4 ram and hard drive can speed up your laptop. it definitely did for me.
Thanks. I did a good amount of research and am in the process of ordering a samsung evo ssd thanks to you lol. So that info was highly appreciated. I haven't opened my laptop yet, but i was wondering.. these laptops come w/ 8gb of ram, now if they have 2 memory slots, is it preoccupied by (4GBx2) of ram, or is it just one 8GB of ram w/ an empty slot open? Also.. what do you recommend i do, to get windows on the new drive?
Most likely 4GB X2. You can look for a cloning set to copy your os and files from you old HDD to new SSD. Some ssds come with it when you buy it or you can buy the cloning set from amazon. I recommend a clean install of windows for your ssd so it will run smoother.
