I love finding videos like this on RU-vid. Real snapshots of '80s and early '90s. You get a real feel for a time that doesn't really exist anymore. I was probably a toddler back then so I can't remember much. Thanks for sharing!
I still hit up the Fox&Hound watch KU&Chiefs/play pool. We use start there pre drinks then hit Johnny's Tavern on MissionRd, then hit up Kennedys in Brookside, then Plaza bars around 11pm-12am(Usually feeling good making fun of the stiffs)...then close dwn Westport. We made that bar hoping journey 4-5 nights a week fr 2002-2009. My "20s-early 30s" KC has the PERFECT bar crawl if u know what yer doing. Then occasionally if we didnt hookup...hit Strip Clubs midtwn/dwntwn. Lol..SMH *oh shit..cant forget The Keyhole in Mission & Coaches on Stateline! Great places. At 2am. Buzzard Beach.. we went there cuz only place that actually played good music without having use jukebox. The 2 vs 2 pool gms dwn stairs for drinks got INTENSE at times. Harry's, "Quater Draw Night" @Harpos on Wednesdays.
99th & Roe. Represent 1986-2012. Went SMS 91-93. Use terrorize Ranchmart on our bikes. Had everything. Movie Theater, Bowling, Taco Via, Haircut, Baseball Card shop. Use steal cigarettes fr that Grocery store up there too
This is great I hung with Dan and Mark Fisher HAHA good thing I stayed out of trouble.. I went to school with all of you Funny!!! I grew up around 113 and Antioch then lived in Stillwell
I was Six in 1990 and went to Rosehill Elementary School everywhere you went was another glimpse of my childhood, I pretty much grew up around all of those places. Man that Food Barn takes me back especially considering how much that area has changed since then.
A flashback in time to an era long gone. Some interesting old sites. The old Kmart at 93rd and Metcalf. Notice how fully stocked the stores were then. I sure don’t miss the rebellious nature of teenagers from that time.
The older teens at King Louie across the street from Kmart always scared me back then. We opted to go to the one over by the Doubletree on College to play pool.
@@kenlewis11 My friend and I had a scary incident there. We got chased all around town by a couple of good old boys. They had pulled out of King Louie and almost hit us.
@@AndrewPatrickRalston That KMart sat desolate for a long time. This year they finally took it down . A 30-40 story office building now sits on the north side of what used to be the Kmart parking lot. They are still developing that site. Across the street Metcalf South was bulldozed except for the old sears wing. A Lowes now sits there. King Louis closed and was renovated into a Johnson County History Museum. It also serves as a polling station during elections. Old downtown Overland Park where Dragon Inn is located has been completely changed. There are now 5 or 6 high rise apartment buildings that were built there last year with restaurants on the ground floor and apartments above. Oak Park Mall is really struggling because of the Pandemic. The property owners filed bankruptcy and are trying to reorganize to stay afloat since the shops inside can't pay the rent. The car dealerships that dotted Metcalf Avenue across from King Louis are almost all gone. A Wendy's and a small strip mall now sits where the old Bud Brown Chrysler store used to be for decades... I live in Prairie Village and really appreciate seeing the way things were.... Thank you so much. Oh, and you wouldn't even believe Olathe. I remember "Cruising" Santa Fe back in the day... Well, that no longer exists now, but the town exploded with new development and is now the goto place for young families who want huge houses. Gardner, which used to be little more than a few houses and a trailer park is exploding too. They actually have the best fireworks park in the entire metro now in my opinion. Walmart built a store there that was the biggest store in the country for a short while...
@@dancnkc Actually it's more like 2 12-story office buildings in K-Mart's place now. Not 40. I thought there were plans to build a 20-story building but it looks like Shamrock has their hands full already with what is built on that property.
😢Playing Basketball at 75th&Stateline. Also Leawood park(nxt 435,) had nice Courts. Decent practice Baseball fields. We use smoke out, play Home Run Derby there.
Sadly the Hy Vee there on State Line is no longer in business and hasn’t been for about 4 years. Kinda sad when I watch this and remember it so vividly. Times were better then. Just saying.
it was busy as ever up until 2 years ago. Hyvee wanted to renovate the store nut Leawood city council did not wanted to pass a sales tax to help with the renovation. So hyvee closed the store. if u google Hyvee leawood closure, u can see the story all of very the local news here in kc.
We had a similar thing happen here in Los Angeles with Target. Since 2012 there has has been a huge half constructed vacant building collecting dust near one of the busiest intersections in the city. The bureaucracy is nuts.
My Dad owned 3...Play It Again Sports stores then.. 1 in Mission 1 in Leawood 1 in Lawrence I had best job as a teen since i played sports. Working at one Mission mostly & Leawwod. Mission one would go get Little Caesars breadsticks at lunch. Leawood one would order out fr Paddy O'Quigleys & Pizza Hut breadsticks. Country Court Plaza.. Nope..*CAMELOT COURT!
We were talking about my buddy Mike Jenkins who passed away several years ago. I was chatting with him quite a bit on FB but I don't think he ever saw this video. He'd probably appreciate it. Hopefully?:)
@@AndrewPatrickRalston About 10 blocks south they built a big Walmart Supercenter, a Lowes and a bunch of little strip malls... So that's the new shopping district for South Leawood
