And yesss... This is camping and not glamping... What I've been planning since long... U spoke my mind... U could make a Diy 270 awning too in this set up. God bless you and your family... From Northeast part of India.
I'm actually about to build a similar platform setup for my Tacoma because I refuse to pay $$$ for an RTT which I will probably use less than 3x a year. Your eyelet idea just helped me with my anchor situation. Thank you! 👍
Exposing kids to this sort of environment is wonderful. Some if my best childhood memories are of camping with my family. Nice job! Tent system is cool too.
I know this is an older video but I also have the same Jeep and want to do similar but not enough vids on here. I wanna go with a popup tent. Was hoping 1 sheet of wood would be enough but most tents are larger. Anyway cool job and one way to save thousands on manufactured rooftop tents. 👍🇨🇦👍
I appreciated this so much I want a roof top tent for my trailer build so the platform (roof) is already made couldn't figure out how to attach the tent
Love the video..I'm doing a DIY roof top tent..I also have a jeep Cherokee..and was wondering how you did your clips to attach you platform to The Xj. ? ..also is there a Benz symbol on your grill...?
Hi...Thanks for sharing. I saw the ground is quite flat, is there any particular reason to have the tent on roof top? moreover, considered also safety for baby...any advice?
Yes the ground is flat there. Having a roof top set up keeps us off the cold ground, away from animals, less mud and dirt gets in the tent, and gives us the ability to travel and set up camp wherever we go. It is a very basic set up because we couldn't get actual roof top tents to ship to us. We lock the zippers at night for our son and remove the ladder when we are getting in the tent so that he cannot climb up without us.
Awesome job of keeping it simple. I'd rather spend 5 minutes setting up and keep it affordable. So done with $5000 roof top tent influencers that promote the ease not doing anything
How is this faster or easier than just pitching the tent on the ground? The only reason anyone puts up with the massive inconvenience of rooftop tents is how fast and easy they go up and down… this is all the cons of a rooftop tent AND all the cons of a ground tent all in one.
This is for those who A) don't want to pitch on the ground (avoid animals, provide some added degree of security), and B) want a clean, flat surface wherever they decide to park.
Do you have a basic build blueprint? I'm a Chaplain for an Outreach ministry. This would really help us. As you stated the company ones are outrageous in cost. If you do please let me know I'll send you my email.

The name of the game is flexibility, they can if they want and base camp. They can do either. All depends on the state of the ground , lumpy, stoney, muddy can be avoided. I think it's a brilliant concept so I'll go down the same route, at the moment I have a trailer and tour with 2 tents, large for base camping 2 nights plus, small for 1 nighters, this will give me another option which can be very convenient using my existing small tent.
