The Aerosucre Boeing 727 did *not* lose height after lift-off. After getting airborne, they levelled off for a moment to accelerate with the benefit of ground effect and then continued their normal climb. I was flying out of Denver in the mid 1990s on a fully loaded 737. Noticed the pilots either forgot or did not extend the flaps as I was sitting right behind the left wing. And it was a hot day at that. We did not lift off until just after we ran off the pavement. That being said I had flown to Denver from Las Vegas. On my way to the Vegas airport the shuttlebus I was in was at the end of the short runway when a flight had a late lift-off there and absolutely showered us with chat and gravel. I don't know about the Denver flight but that late take-off in Vegas earned a news article and the attention of the FAA. As if I needed any of this. I had an infected tooth and was heading home to get it pulled.That flight out of Denver hit stormy weather on the way to Oklahoma City and I was miserable.

If you think the F-15's were impressive, imagine an SR71 doing that. I was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base when the last operational SR71 took off for the last time. It took off, gained a little altitude and then pointed the nose up. It was like watching a rocket launch.
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183
@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 Год назад
Hate to bring it to you, but the F15 destroys the SR-71 in a climb. The SR-71 is simply too heavy to climb straight up and accelerate and gets beaten by nearly every fighter jet, not just the F-15.

@GRAHAMAUS
@GRAHAMAUS Год назад
The Aerosucre pilot was making use of ground effect to accelerate with gear up to get to a more reasonable climbing airspeed. It's a known technique, not necessarily an indication that the plane was excessively overloaded. That said, the lack of margins they operate with is sure to bite them badly one day.

I don't know if Aerosucre "loses height" as advertised, but they definitely needed to level off a bit and build up speed before they could continue the initial climb out. Suggests maybe the real issue was early rotation or too much rotation. Taking off from SKBO at 8300 ft in a heavily loaded plane, it is not your normal low elevation takeoff. In FSX I could barely get the plane off the runway by the end, and that wasn't heavily loaded.
