Dunno. I knew from first glance. And it just means that they were Ains' friends even if he said that "they were tools to raise his name". Case in point, on TuareNINYA on season 2 when Ains says something about returning good for good and evil for evil.

I mean the way Clementine dies was out of revenge for the torture Ninya had to suffer before she was allowed to die. Ainz did originally want to kill her with the dagger, however(after giving it more thought) Ainz decided that a slower and more excruciating death would be a more fitting end for this sadistic psychopath. Despite Ainz saying that they weren’t his friends(since Ainz felt that would be comparing them to his old friends) the Swords of Darkness were still people that he enjoyed being around. To Ainz their teamwork and ambitions were a nice, but melancholic reminder of his Yggdrasil days. Deep down Ainz felt that if he called these strangers his friends that it would undermine the relationships he had built with his friends of Ainz Ooal Gown. Ainz was especially fond of and grateful to Ninya because she offered him so much insight into the world around him, especially its magic. What Ainz found particularly fascinating(and I don’t blame him) was just how advanced the magic of this world had been developed in ways to improve society and day-to-day life. (For example there was a spell that could create ingredients like salt, sugar, or even water; however how much depended on the skill of the caster.) Although none of these advanced spells exceeded the third tier, all of these spells are unique to the New World. Ainz was infinitely curious about all the various ways magic could be innovated beyond what he already knows from Yggdrasil.
