I feel like I’ve just had the most wonderful beach experience ever! Thank you for letting us come along. And I couldn’t help thinking that if more children had fathers like John, our world would be a much, much better place. Maybe another channel where you teach men how to parent? Of course, all they’d have to do is learn by example by watching videos like this one! James is just too adorable. He and his health remain in my prayers. As a two time cancer survivor, I can’t imagine having your child go through that. God bless the whole family!

Here’s how my camping would have gone. I’d have misjudged the tide, pitched the fire and tent too close to the sea, got soaked and been forced to start again. On the second attempt I’d have built the fire, forgotten the lighter and driven 20km to the nearest shop to buy one. Once the fire was lit the police would turn up to fine me for having the fire. My fishing line would have got snagged by a passing speedboat meaning I’d lose all the tackle as it got dragged off the beach. Undeterred and fishless, I’d break open the iron rations of beans and canned meat. With no tin opener I’d drive 20km to the nearest shop to buy one. Meanwhile, the wind would have fanned the embers of the fire I had extinguished causing sparks to set the tent ablaze...

That smile at 3:45... You sir are truly in your element.

This is by far my favorite video to date! I can sit and watch you and James all day long. I reminds me so much of the times I had with my own father who has been gone for over 11 years now. Yes, it really is the " simple things in life" that make it so much better. I tell my husband all the time that the small things make me happy: family, my animals, my home, and my flower garden. I remember going camping with my folks. They set up their tent, and a smaller tent for me, and said: "That tent is only for big girls. You're not to go in there. You're not ready." I said: "Mom, I'm 22. I'm a little old for reverse psychology. And I better not hear you guys having sex, this time!"

I took my son and his friends canoe camping down the Thames when they were young teenagers, they still talk about the trips now with fond memories. Cracking watch. If carlsberg did parenting!!. Would love to spend nights like this with my boy but i have 30+ seizures daily so wouldnt be safe. Fished for salmon and sea trout for years on the local rivers but starting to get in to sea fishing now just trying to get bits and Bob's together to start. So much different tackle, lines and rigs to think of its mind boggling. 🤣 Keep the videos coming pal. Better than anything on the telly.

As a boy of the age of James the whisper of water and wind and those things of them swept me away. The wonder and beauty of them has held my heart dear for 70 yrs. May they be as sweet to your little man as the have to me.

"I wish i had some of his energy" is something i though about when my daughters were young but i think about it more now as they are teenagers who will stay awake until 3am and get up to go running 8am

ahhh the nostalgia..i sooo see my dad in you..he would take me with him and teach me all about the sea species. we would go forage, rod fishing, spear fishing and eat all we caught afterwards. Good lord the things we've seen. from cuttlefish hatch to octapuses feed on crabs. Your son will have the best memories as he gets older. i am 38 now and my dad is 67. we still share those beautiful memories. thanx for taking me back mate. cheers from Greece.

Thanks for sharing a really lovely video John. Those are some magical childhood memories for James (and you of course). Can well remember overnighters on a similar beach in Devon at his age, as the beach was only accessible through my Dad's friends farm. Shame about the students turning up. But few things better in life than eating freshly caught seafood on a beach. Pretty good camera work by FishLocker Jr as well 👍 Good tip on the dangers of hot rocks. But would add that people should avoid using rocks from below high tide mark to make fires, as some types when water laden can literally explode when they get hot. Anyway thanks again for a great video. ATB

My Daughter Natasha is now 36, And she tells her kids about our camping sessions over in arran at Glenn Sannox near Sannox burn. We had some great times wee climbed goat fell when she was 7-8 yrs old. I am 75 now and struggle to make a pot of tea. yep we had some rare times... We would go down to Irin beach light a fir and roast pots in baco foil yes great momories... bye folkd.

I came for the fishing, and stayed for the flat bread mackerel and Crab aha. I even looked up, Frostfire (moon tent) on the net, all out of stock as of 20/11/22. You fired up an old memory for me, I used to keep Pebbles on top of the Tilley Lamp then keep them in my pocket once they had heated up, would stop my hands from freezing on Dungeness beach middle off winter. If i get to go anywhere nowadays i try to sneak out alone, I've 13 children, and 8 are under 12 years of age, It's just not worth the fight to see who i'm not taking lol besides i need a break ;) James is learning stuff he could never get from a book, Top dad. Another great video, my dad took me rock pooling, shrimping and ratching for lobsters and crabs when I was your son's age in the late 60's early 70's, I still fish with him every week and he's 82 now. My kids spent every summer looking for things to catch with me. We'll be down your way in July hopefully, water up in Cumbria is still very very cold

Just started following you and it's so therapeutic. I'd love to live where do. It's idyllic. I just have one question though. I'm a chef, and seafood is my favourite product to cook. Crab is also my favourite shellfish. More so than lobster. But why, when you cook crab, do you not never use the brown meat. It seems a waste. Its so tasty and almost like a sauce for the white meat. I'm sure you've probably used it before, but I've not seen a video yet. You could also eat everything out of the shell as if its a bowl. Delicious. Keep up the good work mate. You're life seems perfect.

Camping gear, fishing gear, cameras, food - you need a packhorse! John , you keep churning out Super vids, My daughter from 6 to about 9 loved Ferreting and hunting with my lurchers but never liked wild camping or my Passion , Fishing ! or camping, after 9 she went South, would love to have had a child that would go adventuring .Loving the family !
