Discover a lost world at the High Coast Inland: Edsele Mine. This former mining site, active between 1965 and 1983, is a captivating destination for adventurous souls seeking magnificent views and exciting activities.
During its active years, they extracted 180,000 tons of quartz and 32,000 tons of feldspar from this site. Despite having only six employees at its peak, the mine has an impressive history spanning almost two decades.
After lying untouched for 17 years, the Edsele interest group decided to acquire the mine. Despite attempts to resume mining through test drilling, the mining area is now exclusively used as a unique attraction and excursion destination.
Reaching the mine is an adventurous journey along forest roads from different directions, the roads provides a glimpse into the mine's isolation and mystique. Upon arrival, you encounter a narrow passage leading to a small lake, surrounded by steep cliffs that create an almost otherworldly and somewhat eerie atmosphere. The view over the water reveals a chilling cold from the depths, enhancing the feeling that something, or someone, lurks down there at the 30-meter depth.
Edsele Mine is more than just a sight - it is a gateway to a bygone era, where the forces of nature and humanity's pursuit of raw materials intertwine in a way that few places can offer. Remember that visiting and swimming in the mine is at your own risk, and be prepared to be engulfed by the unique atmosphere and history surrounding this extraordinary destination.
