I had to laugh at the corn snack finger hats. Those are called "Bugles" here in the US, and I haven't had them since I was a kid. But I remember eating them exactly the way you did 🤣. Going to have to get some now, and see if they taste like I remember! Thanks for bringing us along with you.
Your videos are my late night remedies. I keep watching your videos every night before I sleep, I even made a playlist of it. It makes me feel at peace and calm. Thanks for bring us to your adventure. I hope I can visit Japan soon. 🙇
I had to laugh about this great translation. Every time I watch the videos, it make me smile.. thank you for bringing this joyful pleasure in my life. 😊
Those corn chips look identical to the corn snack "Bugles" that we have in the USA -- the Bugles packaging has the slogan "America's #1 Finger Hat" -- I see that action plays in Japan just as well!
We have “horn of cow” in Taiwan, located south of Japan. Maybe everyone has the same memory of childhood ,putting corn chips on his fingers after school.
Just as I crawl back into bed after settling Miss 4 back to sleep, your video pops up on my feed. Perfect! I love your videos. Had to laugh at the zoomed in kid on the toilet hanging on for dear life. It reminded me of the 9hr train trip Miss 4 and I took recently. I wish there's been something like that for her to hang onto, rather than me, while using the toilet on the train!
As always, so much fun to watch! I especially love when you film a menu - I'm learning Japanese and it feels so great when I can recognize kanji I've learned. No curry menu will defeat me.
This room is just nice for one person. 👍🏼👍🏼 I can go for solo trips however to sleep alone in a Japanese hotel is a no no because I watched too much scary videos 🫣🫣
I have always wanted to visit Otaru! What a beautiful snowy landscape. Thank you for showing us some of the city before you got on the ferry. When I was in high school, my Japanese class watched a very beautiful film that took place in Otaru called “Love Letter.” I fell in love with Hokkaido when I watched that movie, and I can’t wait for the COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted so I can visit!
Is this film the one directed by Shunji Iwai? The one about two women who were penpals & later on found out they both shared relationships with a guy they knew?
That is another beautiful ship 🚢! It’s good that you can get a bigger room as a solo without extra fees . I definitely will try to get booked on this ferry if I ever get to Japan 😊 Thank you for sharing another fantastic adventure 😊💕
The snowy Japan is so attractive! never tried getting on a overnight ferry in Japan. Hope we can try this soon. Enjoy watching your travel video a lot.
Der Solo solo Traveler, I'm sorry that you got seasick; as a German from Hamburg, I know a rough sea very well! Generally, it is recommended to go outside and get lots of fresh air. What sets you apart from the other traveller vloggers: you do not mention any sponsor and always use your friendly houmors and irony. Love it. Hope that next trip may have better weather. Bon apple tea. P:S.: in German, the correct translation for your room would be "Kabine". Ask me for more translations, if you like.
Caught the latest video before sleep time. As usual, your videos are a great way for me to feel calm. I’m sure my bed is not going to be a roller coaster. 😂
i lost it when you captioned that broccoli from the beef stew dinner set as "tree", hahaha thanks a lot for the entertainment and the video, solo travelling duck
I have never had curry. Seems all the Japanese travel/ foodie channel peeps eat it and love it. I looked for it in our local grocery store and they did not carry it. I live in a small farming community in the USA and my guess nobody eats it here, so nobody carries it.. Lol So I guess I need to go to the city where a huge Asian grocery store lives and find it there. Gonna buy every kind I can find and see which I like. Although the beef curry looks the best. Love your channel and your sense of humor. It sets you apart from the others. Cheers.
Thanks for all your comments Y-ME Farm, morning curry? sounds so interesting, isn’t it? Japanese style Curry 🍛 is super popular, not so spicy and not so much strong spice in it. You can try it someday:)
I took this ferry before too and it’s so seasick as hell. Like u did lol. My mom threw up and the onsen bath water was splashing high and everywhere. I couldn’t really enjoy and remember the experience at all except remembering it’s super seasick the whole journey lol. I think my family stayed in this type of room too but like I said I can’t really remember lol.
I always love watching the videos. I find it educational of what is expected to do in a overnight ferry in Japan. As in, taking your shoes off (as I also do it in Canada) and put on a nice pair of slippers. The layouts of the rooms are pretty cool
Your videos are the best. Very informative, funny and entertaining. I can't believe you got in the bathtub fully dressed and turned on the water. I laughed at that for a good few nights Sorry you felt sea sick or at least felt nauseous. All your videos have been so good 👍. Thank you.
I am all caught up to your videos. I am sad there is not more. Happy I can rewatch until a new one is uploaded. Took me 3 days to watch all of them. You were my breaks while working on my school work 🙃
I’ve been planning to take a long tour throughout Japan to please my whole curiosity about the country, thank you for your videos; those motivate me a lot. I’m considering to learn some simple Japanese though it’s still hard for me. I hope there won’t be many problems with me when I travel in Japan hihi
I love how the Japanese name for the snacks we call "Bugles" in the US literally translates to "pointy corn". And yes, we also stick them on our fingers here, too. 😁
Your videos are great! I love the little touches you add like 'open the sesame seed' and 'the holy trinity: shampoo, conditioner and body wash.' I'm inspired to visit Japan now!
Our man, Solo, braving the stormy winter seas to bring us beautiful, humble, educational videos on all the ferries in Japan. (feels that way, at least) Also, it almost doesn't feel like an STJ video if I don't see you mention curry or eat it at least once. Spicy Solo is a happy Solo.
I envy this trip. I love the water, but I suffer from the worst motion sickness and have a very hard time being on boats. I've tried several times, I've been absolutely miserable and couldn't enjoy the ride. I hope that you had a good time on your trip and the Bugel fingers were a nice touch too. Made me chuckle.
I feel your pain friend. My husband and I vacationed in England a few times when he was stationed in Europe. All I’m gonna say is that the English Channel must have some long-standing grudge with my ancestors. It was not pleasant and I learned the sailor’s life is not for me lol. 🤣
Love your videos and filming style. A great video as always! It is like as if I was there and similar to how I would have travelled. So jealous I cannot go to Japan now.
I really enjoy the humour in these videos 😂😂...and at the same time find it fascinating and relaxing😊 the more I watch the more I want to come travelling with you 😂😂life in the uk is pretty dull compared to all the places you visit !
I always enjoy your videos! I’m preparing my first trip to Japan (maybe next year if borders open!) and I took a lot of notes from your trips and tips! Thank you! I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina! Thank you agai!!!! 😘
Hi, I am a newer subscriber to your channel and I am really enjoying it. This looks like an awesome excursion that I would love to take. That is a beautiful ferry and the cuisine looks wonderful. I recalled fond memories when I saw your corn finger snack. As another person stated in the comments, here in the US we call them Bugles and that is exactly how most of us would eat them😁. I have liked them since I was a kid, but I have not eaten them in a long time. After watching this I’m now craving them so I’ll have to buy some🙂.
Next time if you are on a rocking boat, you might find that it's easier to sleep if you are being rocked head-to-toes rather than side-to-side. The former is like being rocked to sleep like a baby.
When I saw those corn snacks I thought I would have to put them on my fingers too 🤣 We have a snack called hula hoops in Ireland and you must also wear them as finger hats!
Looks so luxurious! I'm curious about the outdoor bath on a ferry, must have been cold. Also, nice to see that putting bugles on your fingers to eat them is a universal experience!
Keep on going! I love your channel and you are doing a great job. Thank you also for introducing Japanese way of living. Maybe as next, something Zen related would be great.
Thank you so much for this wonderful and informative video. Your humor was on point as usual! Loved the corn chip fingernails😁! Is it common place in Japanese culture to eat potatochips with chop sticks, or was that part of your humor?
The drink you put in the mini fridge in your room, I have tried here in the US at Disney World in Orlando,Florida. It’s actually pretty good I liked it anyway.
This has to be your most funny commentary yet! Keep up the good work! Yes, Loved the Bugle fingernails. Why eat them any other way? With a sluggish TV remote, I find that if you smack the back once firmly on the palm of your hand, it motivates the batteries to get moving.
