..... talking about suicide and make others aware .. is something else than going to another country , and of all Japan , and there way of live and why people comit suicide , then go to a suicide forest in the night and do evp . Try to contact ghosts .. sure mate whatever you say ....

I think that it was probably Fujinomiya City, not Aokigahara, that the folklore of ``ubasute'' was preserved around Mount Fuji. By the way, according to academic research on "ubasute", it is said that the elderly were never actually left behind in the mountains.

The 20th there is represented in an unusual way 廿日 (twenty day) while the usual way of representing 20 is not 廿 but 二十 (2 and 10). I had to pull out some pictures from the internet which where more visible, because from what's in that second only a 60 or 70% is readable."

@@sloppypotato00 The road sign is more than 100 years old. There are at least 4 known in the area. And it’s not exactly a road sign, it is a sign that shows which path leads where. One is Mount Fuji, the other Narusawa village. Still there, with a population of 2800 and 1300 households. The trend of committing suicide there is relatively new, so Yamagata Prefecture forbid access to the area to avoid people getting lost and avoid finding hundreds of bodies to identify, process and cremate. The funds don’t come from the central government but from the local one. Add the fact that most people go there without any ID, lots pf booze and a rope, Yamagata Police Department could not cope with all of that work. And cooperation of police departments between prefectures is rare in Japan. Dying is expensive in Japan for the family left behind, so the ones willing to leave this world do it in a way their families don’t have to pay any bills or debts. Thus no IDs, no luggage in most of cases. Some dudes camp there for a few days till they run completely out of booze and then hung themselves or get into a camping tent and commit suicide by carbon monoxide. If someone finds a body they have to report it, gets expensive… That’s what the place is all about. Killing one self there begun slowly during the 70’s but skyrocketed after the economic bubble exploded in 1991. So one could say this “phenomenon” is more or less as old as Star Wars. So the signs were just mere signs for pilgrims doing pilgrimage stuff a long time ago, in a forest far, far away…
