Tonight we leave Bangkok (that went by quickly) and head North to Chiang Mai. We’re catching the overnight train, because we LOVE train travel (never thought we’d say that before starting this trip!). Ever since we did the Trans Siberian we have missed long haul train journeys - they are comfortable, give you time to relax and you can can see the countryside.
We’re so excited to be in Chiang Mai, we’ve heard great things about this city and we can’t wait to explore here!

We said goodbye to our jobs, sold all our belongings, and left Australia on a one-way ticket to Shanghai with just each other and our backpacks! We plan to travel the world for a year, see as much as possible, meet as many people as we can, and most importantly MAKE OUR MONEY LAST!
When we left Australia we decided to make travel vlogs to share our journey with our friends and family back home. We also love watching other travel vloggers on RU-vid, in particular Kara and Nate, The Endless Adventure, Way Away, and Flying The Nest.
If you enjoyed this video please SUBSCRIBE so you don’t miss our new videos as they’re released. We also love it when you leave us a COMMENT! :)

The trains in Thailand are so good! We took an overnight train from Laos to Bangkok a couple of years ago and we were very impressed. Nice that they make up the beds for you each night 😃

Correct, in 2nd class sleeper where you were there is no privacy, so lights stay on for security. ist class sleeper you have a private cabin for 2, or you can pay a little extra and have it for 1 person.

The steward made the bed very fast. I think they leave the lights on for safety for passengers. Looked very comfortable.
@enrustraopen
@enrustraopen 5 лет назад
Yes, I thought the same - in the dark there is little control of the situation. When many people (strange to each other) sleep in the same place, it is not safe to leave them without control. The only alternative is an infrared camera connected to the display in the steward's compartment.

He was an expert! He was so happy to make our beds as well lol 😀

We asked someone later about it and they said that there had been quite a lot of incidents of drinking alcohol and things going on in the beds that were not appropriate. So now they leave the lights on to make everyone feel safer and alcohol is not allowed. To be honest it was fine and each bed has a curtain, we just weren't expecting it and we think a few people were caught out and didn't come prepared!

I think, the light had to be on for the safety reason.
@pingbookent
@pingbookent 5 лет назад
Yes. That's the reason. Because overnight train used to have a terrify murder case before.

I wish they dim the light during night time.
@panpan7373
@panpan7373 5 лет назад
For safety issue, unfortunately they need to turn the light on on all cabin and there are the CCTVs monitoring in the cabins too. If you want the room to be dark then you need to buy the First Class ticket ( can accommodate 2 passengers in 1 room) so you can turn off the light in your room while sleeping.
@enrustraopen
@enrustraopen 5 лет назад
Wonderful train interior, a well thought-out design. They only have to arrange something for those suffering from light (I sleep easily with the light on, at home even leave it on at night on purpose, when feeling bad). The landscape resembles Siberia.
@AprilandTimTravel
@AprilandTimTravel 5 лет назад
the strange thing was every bed had a individual lamp - but there was absolute no need to use them ever because the aisle lights were so bright!
@enrustraopen
@enrustraopen 5 лет назад
@@AprilandTimTravel After your words about the previous incidents with alcohol etc. I can see the reason: these individual lamps (which I also saw in all Russian trains), where necessary, when the general light was turned off in certain hours, but some people could want to read books etc. Now they just don't turn off the general light for the reason you have mentioned, but they have left in place the individual lights in accordance with the design ofthe carriage. I also really like this idea of curtains - lets comfortably taking off my clothes at night (or if I want to sleep during the day on a several-day trip). Quite an easy and inexpensive way of providing more privacy.

I had taken that train twice in May 1918 and the reason that they left the lights on because of the security reason. In the past passengers do get robed quite often in the sleeping car. Since they introduce, left the lights on plus police to guard the train such incident is reduced to almost nil.

We did this train to when we were in Thailand 🇹🇭 haha we went el cheapo though on the old train! Your train looked really nice though! I (Sally) slept on the top bunk and couldn’t sleep all night because of the bright lights! It was awful 😭 Hahaha we feel you April about walking into the bathroom with a camera... we got some weird looks whilst doing the trains across Russia 😂😂

2:12 That thing next to the toilet is actually to clean the toilet and the floors. It's like what we would have in the shower, but in this case used slightly differently. Only for staff though, so don't tough that thing haha. Also regular houses in Thailand have this feature. 5:25 The lights stay on so you won't have anyone falling, grabbing the wrong things or other wise causing possible accidents.
