The SAR KB is definitely solid for Hiking, Camping, Hunting, and of course Search and Rescue, good stuff!

I got a chest rig about three years ago and I absolutely love it. It keeps stuff like maps, snacks, flashlight, bear spray, flagging tape, compass, flares and other things accessible without stopping to remove my pack. A relatively small about of weight in the chest rig counter balances some of the main pack weight and I found it makes it more balanced and comfortable overall. Mine has four buckles to make it easier to put on and take off so I can see not have those would be a pain.

Love my HPG kit bags. (Considering kit use of up to 1 week sustainment) I've used the heavy recon for long hikes filled with a myriad of possibles and Blue Force Gear 3 pouch if carrying far-reaching hole punchers/tack drivers, compass + maps, Kestral environment meter, secondary weapon w/extra mags. Light amount of pogey bait, knife, backup streamlight, signal mirror, pad of paper, pen, and Milwaukee all write sharpie. Add ratcheting stubby screw driver with assorted tips in the handle, Gerber utility multi tool, and a small titanium prybar. Comms attached to front molle w/energizer head lamp. TQ attached to bottom view BFG TQ holder. Also carrying the SAR recon kit bag with similar setup as above but adding more food stuffs and water purifiers, grease pens for maps with protractor, Garmin 601, extra compass, and comms, on front molle, assorted ident patches, TQ attached on bottom, and butt/cold shower wipes if out in the field more than a day or three. Easy peasy.

Best mod you can make to the Kit Bags is to swap the buckles for First Spear Tubes. You’ll need to use some tri glides too, but it’s worth it.

I’ve used my HPG chest rig on 40+ SAR missions this year alone and I never go without it. Basically, I keep everything I need to access while hiking to and immediately upon reaching the subject (two radios, USB power pack, snacks, notepad, pens, SOAP reports, CPR mask, etc). That ensures I never have to waste time to stop and take my backpack off until I’m with the patient.

I wanted to try a chest rig and I bought the Hill People Gear medium recon. It's a bit smaller than this one but it's perfect for me. I keep a few basic survival items and a gun in it. It's pretty much become essential for when I'm in the woods

Great point you brought up about all 4 straps not being able to unclip from the bag. Thanks for sharing that. Personally, the 2 top connection points don't need to quickly unclip, but I would want the 2 bottom connections to be able to quickly unclip.

I'm usually not much of a brand guy, a lot of my stuff is military surplus and I just try to get what works - but I'm consistently very impressed by Hill People Gear's designs and workmanship. Everything is so well thought-out. I'm from the other side of the pond, so it's difficult to get their stuff here, but I always go out of my way to try and find it if I can.

I’m right there with you Top! I have one myself, and the biggest reason I do like it is the fact it makes a great concealed carry platform…but, I find myself wresting with belt load Tier 1/2 gear and the chest rig… I guess it depends upon the mood for lack of a better answer. I like carrying Land Nav stuff and some essentials in an easy to access location, but it’s really easy to overload it. Keep up the Fire!

wow, a honest review. What I alread didn't like in the video. 1. the slings start to crumble and don't stay flat. 2. the missing quick relaeses. On the good side I can see easy fixes for that on my own (mods), but I would change it anyway to part of the ruck. Instead of the sternum strap, I like to have these bags. So my bino, pistole, knife, compass, etc.is available without any much movement. But that is of course my personal choice. Keep the vid's going, like them much.

I like it. I use a single sling because I own it, but did modify it to attach with Velcro to the shirts I wear when hiking etc. but if they offered the second buckle I would consider for the wife since the flaps are cool! Not folding all the way down is a bonus.

Been thinking of getting something like that. Have a Kifaru pouch, I bought second hand, that size. The Kifaru pouch just has MOLLE webbing instead of straps, made to be attached to a vest or pack. I use it for one of my pistols.

Yes sir, been using a HPG Heavy Recon Kit Bag for several years as a intermediate survival kit (layering survival equipment = pockets, HPG, backpack) and of course pistol carry. Yes, they are more expensive than others, but it's high quality and made in the USA!!

HPG makes a support strap that goes around the bottom for extra security. It comes with the runners kit bag but not the original, its an extra accessory on their website. But homestly, its just shock cord with plastic buckles. You could make one youself amd tie it around the bottom molle

I just bought a Grouse V2 kit bag, I've been eyeballing one of these for 7-8 years now. I bought the sling strap because I need the ability to take it off my chest and rotate it around to my back, for example using it as an airplane carry-on and then later in a trip as a kit bag. I think there really should be a QD on the right side chest buckle so you can take it off from the side, but these are outdoor products not tactical.

I wasn't sure how much I'd use a chest rig, turns out it's a lot so I won't for a Chinese one for £16 about ,$20. It has the pen/gear loops inside and buckles on all four points plus molle straps on the rear so it can be put inside of or molle attached to a main bag. Feel like I got a bargain so I bought one in black too. Good review mate. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍻

Can't you attach that front bag directly to the backpack's shoulder strap? Then you don't need an extra harness for the front bag, and you counteract some of the torque that a heavy backpack creates.

Pogy bait?? LOL Seriously, I had a sail making sewing machine and made several experimental "ditto bags" from old blue jeans. What you show in this video incorporates a lot of the best that I found. One thing that I would add to this is a strap that holds the main compartment flap horizontally so you have a small map table. Almost looked like you had one when you opened the main compartment. And if you're thinking of getting a heavy duty sewing machine, I recommend the Pfaff 130-6, portable sail repair machine.

SHTF is getting close; people are buying this stuff and suppliers know it because with each new gear item and each passing month, the gear is getting expensive! Ex. Dave Canterbury oil cloth hooded watch coat: $200+ Zen Bivy sleep system - $400 + This item in this video (chest rigs are the new black this year) $150+ I feel like I’m beginning to know what women feel like when they shop for accessories … This is just a simple bag strapped to your chest! For a few dollars more, you can get a fully kitted high quality backpack!
