I get requests for compilation videos for popular reaction series, so here's another one! Recorded over the past few years, my reactions to the "mini wars" of Oversimplified - The Emu War, the Football War, and the War of the Bucket. Enjoy!

One of my favourite comments on the original Emu war video says something along the lines of "The farmers weren't looking for the minister of defence, they wanted the minister of da fence". Credit goes to that person because it's pretty damn funny

When comparing bullets used per kill in WW2 and Vietnam you have to consider a lot of them were spent in support roles . Suppressive fire and cover fire . In the war against the Emus they didn’t fight back so it was all rounds being used simply to kill the birds

My Australian friends are more scared of North American wildlife than their own. Supposedly, they hardly ever see the spiders and snakes we are scared of.. they mention mountain lions, bears, and the tons of rattle snakes here.
@MichaelScheele

Oh, the irony. Our scary wildlife is probably no more frequently encountered than theirs.

Aussie here, I see spiders basically every day except during the colder months. They don't bother me at all because most are harmless. I don't live in the bush so I have never seen a snake either. But yeah when comparing wildlife, America definitely has more dangerous animals (and also more frequently, I saw a bear of some sort and a moose in my brief time in Canada)

Oh we see them. They're just easy enough to avoid. You see a spider, you leave it alone. You see a snake, you leave it alone and walk away. You see a crocodile, gtfo of there. The only exception is the cassowary, they're about as terrifying as the north American nasties.

I didn't have to imagine. I had my own emu war growing up. My father had a farm and someone at the local swap meet (Flea market) had a breeding pair of Rheas they had for sale. My father saw these giant, aggressive birds and thought. "Do you know what my farm needs? Rheas." The only part of his farm that had a fence large enough to contain these big ass birds just so happened to be the privacy fence around the immediate back yard of the house. Which just so happened to contain all of us kids' playing equipment. Swing set, see saw, sand box. All of it. Did he move any of this stuff out of the back yard? No He did not. So I had to spend an entire summer where all our outdoor activity equipment was on the opposite side of a fence patrolled by one of the angriest species of avis on the planet. The height of the birds, the height of the fence, and the height of myself were just such that if you wandered too close to the fence and weren't paying attention. Well I hope you were wearing a sturdy hat.

Chris, "soccer" was coined by the British as a shortened form of "association football" as the game was called in the 19th century. For some reason, British university students at the time took to adding "-er" as a suffix. Much like the current use of "-ie" (e.g., brekkie for breakfast) in the UK. They took "soc" from "association" and added "-er," thus becoming "soccer". While not as common as the term "football" in the UK, "soccer" is used for a British TV program about the game and is also used in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Japan, and a few others. We retained the use of "soccer" because American football (derived from rugby) became the more popular of the two sports in the US.
@HateTheGameTX
@HateTheGameTX 6 месяцев назад
As an American, I have to say that American football, or handegg, is only more popular in America. Soccer, or actual football, is wildly popular outside of the States.
@darter9000

I've read that football's origin came from the differentiation between games played on foot...vs on horseback.
@hesky10
@hesky10 2 месяца назад
@darter9000 the idea of teams comes from a medieval version of football in which whole villages would play another neighbouring village, usually annually, one village trying to get the ball over the boundary line of the opposing village. In a modern context the teams we see today originated from works teams and some team names derive from the profession of the original workers, eg arsenal from London originated as Woolwich arsenal and was munitions in trade, until they moved to north London because of their owner at the time of the move. More commonly, nicknames in England derive from traditional industries, Luton are called the hatters due to their hat industries for example.

During the football war of 1969, El Salvador and Honduras both had Corsairs and Mustangs they had purchased from the US surplus after WWII. The brief four day war would be the last time that piston-driven aircraft would fight against each other.

Just wanted to say, on the topic of "reaction" videos. You sir are one of the best examples on the internet of how someone can add real substance. There are reaction channels on youtube and there are what I would call commentary channels that is more like watching the commentary track on a DVD. And this is the latter for sure. Best wishes from Sweden.

So for the Honduras- El Salvador war is misunderstood. Yes, football was making the news and create more friction. But the friction was already there. This was more about land than football. At first el Salvador attacked for land they disputed with Honduras. Then they got cocky and wanted to go all the way to the Caribbean, as they had no port there. At least thats what my family, who lived this war, told me about it.

The reason the loose gun's that big is because that big jacket on the outside is a radiheater for the lewis gun, if that thing wasn't on it, it would be a lot lighter
@I_Stole_A_BTR-80
@I_Stole_A_BTR-80 6 месяцев назад
17:15 actually that huge "barrel" is just a giant jacket which the barrel sits in. It's there to help draw cool air in and over the barrel. It probably gets warm, but not too much to be a burn hazard. Although there is footage of some german troops doing this with an MG34, but considering the jacket lies much closer to the barrel, and it's only there on the MG34 to keep your hands off the barrel, there might be some burn risk there. On a lewis gun though, for short bursts, it's probably fine.

Gridiron football, rugby football, amd association football are all descended from the football games that developed in British schools. Fast forward and basically whatever sort of football is most popular in a country gets the unmodified name there, except for rugby which is just rugby (further divided into union or league). "Soccer" is itself an abbreviation of "association." Japan might be an exception; I think soccer is more popular there but they have, until recently, used a derivative of "soccer," but I think their national governing association has moved to calling it "football."

I'm sure other people have mentioned it, but as I understand it, "football" refers to the fact that it's played on foot as opposed to on horseback. Football, rugby, soccer, these all fall into that category. You'd think that could also apply to basketball, but I'm sure there's some manner of grass or outdoor-ness assumed with the "football" term. Though, that doesn't rule out baseball. Bat-football?

i didnt know Georgia had penal colony roots. Georgia is too good of a state to be a penal colony, penal colony states would be wyoming: flat, cold, and windy or nevada: a craggy, sun blighted, wasteland. i was going to also add Louisiana but i think Louisiana is just my own personal vision of a hellish place to live. i consider it a bad omen when you live in a place where the dead dont stay buried and the amount of bugs per sq meter is absurd.
@architect011_3
@architect011_3 6 месяцев назад
if I recal Georgia was more of a debtors colony. People who were in prison because tehy were in debt to the crown over taxes not paid or something as such. So it wasn't a true penal colony like Siberia or Devils Island.

Regarding your final words: I think this phenomenon is nowhere quite as easily observable as in the 19th century, or more precise the time between the Napoleonic wars and the great war. In those roughly 100 years, you have literally thousands of groundbreaking decisions that sound completely logical viewed from the perspective of that time, but if you just take one decision away or make one outcome slightly different, you suddenly have hundreds of follow-up decisions that lead the great war seem useless or idiotic.
