Both of you are so ignorant it's baffling. He knows exactly how wide his car is. He probably thought he could push the other car over and ride through the snow but misjudged how the snow would grab the car.
@@MetalFan10101 Very true..in this case he listened to you..he went hard & went home. In racing, if it's confirmed a race car blocked your path or anything our of your control hindered your progression, you get compensated for lost time. I guess his adrenalin got the best of him.
There are lots of overtakes in rally, some work some don't, but it's good manners that when you get to a spot to allow an overtake you do so as not to be holding up a faster driver. This wasn't a spot to pass.
I believe there is not much overtaking in rally racing because the events are timed and they start the cars far enough apart that they shouldn’t really need to overtake unless the car ahead of them is moving along extremely slowly compared to the rest of the cars competing…..in which case you just have to take your chances on a pass and try and do it where it’s not going to cost you the race. Obviously this driver and navigator both failed.
Yea, typically the only time an over take is necessary is when a car is just trying to limp to the finish. Which, iirc, was the case in this race. The limping car or their team will usually be in contact with racers behind them so they can coordinate a safe pass, but unfortunately these two met up in an area that wouldn’t really allow it… chase driver just got impatient.

For everyone saying he was impatient, im sure he felt like he was waiting behind that guy for 90 seconds. When your adrenaline is flowing, time feels like it slows down.

Nope. For me it's just the vehicle ABS kicking in on ice and not letting me take control of the car. Once I do take control, I manage to save the vehicle from getting into a dumb situation. Like hitting a car or the curb.
Been there and almost done that! We were flying through a stage with just enough room to pass that the side mirrors almost touched. At the time we were thinking OMG and then whew! And kept on going. Funny we were in a Yaris too! Good times

I don't watch rally (well i do watch clips, but i don't know a darn thing about it)... Is it true that you can't overtake? Dosen't sound right to me... It would be the only racing i know of where you just get stuck behind someone if they don't let you by. This just seems like a poor choice of overtake location to me, but again i have no idea... Anyone care to explain?
Yea I would say part of being a successful driver is being smart enough to make the calls necessary to make it to the end.. no matter how impatient you are. I'm sure that cost more than just thinking for 2 seconds
I did overtake in DiRT 2 and 3 on Trailblazer. Just understand what it is. A prepared inline four with a turbo versus Big screaming fast revving powerful engines on what's beyond what Group B used to be. An overtake at 90 kmh and on 190 kmh...

He wasn't patient at all. He never even gave the other driver a chance to pull over (which he probably would have). He ran up on him so quick the driver in the front probably didn't even know he was back there yet.
The camera just happened to be there --- filming in the snow --- 100 feet ahead of them at the precise moment of the impact! . . . Incredible co-incidence.
Just one of those moments that proves we are all human. I consider myself a good driver and knew it was a no go so I know for a fact his professional ass knew without a doubt he was not gunna fit right there
This happens to my daily commute to town. people blast past me and get mad that im doing the speed limit and what do you know... they are sitting right next to me 10 km later at the red light going into town.
I hate it when people around me don't know how to drive in snow. Happens a lot where I live (Fort Drum area). Out of staters get transferred here, buy a big truck, and then think they're immune to the elements... and eventually end up stuck in a ditch. 🙄
I learned not to get into snow banks in high school when I thought I would spray a car parked with snow piled beside it on the side of a mostly dry road but instead I got sucked way to close to the parked car for comfort.
