@@johndallara3257 I'm glad that dumbing things down helped you to feel as though you understand. I haven't used the term "politician," but your evident problems with basic reading comprehension are perhaps better addressed (you keep stupidly misusing "expression" and "expressed") in a separate comment. There absolutely is an r in "REM," which actually means something. You don't think: therefore, I ridicule. That's modern English for "you're an entertaining idiot." My neighbor has a slightly disabled Capuchin monkey that can help you with basic apostrophes for a moderate fee. I'll hook you up if you're interested.
It works sometimes with certain panels, but it's been a bit too one sided a few times this season. I get the importance of having a spectrum and hearing from differing sides, it's what makes it still interesting, but it's slipping a little.
Sununu said in his interview with Bill on the show that he was a great listener... The guy wouldn't shut the f**k up long enough to let Bill speak let alone listen to him.
An hour after this posted, I’m first reading the comments , and the vast majority are about Sununu and the wit and wisdom are far more amusing than the actual clip. He is in love with hearing the sound of his own voice, for sure 😎
Dear Bill, I have watched your show for many years and enjoy it very much. I started watching tin the U.S. - I lived in Los Angeles for 32 years. Two years ago my partner and I moved to Portugal (a bad decision, we're gonna move to my native Finland soon, but that's another matter). Here in Portugal I continued watching Real Time on RU-vid. I also saw the latest show broadcast on March 31st 2023. I always enjoy your monologue with the day's headlines. As time passes and the longer I've been away from America, the less I care about the local issues. Don't get me wrong. I lived more than half my life there and always will consider myself part American. But mmigrating to the United States is not quite as simple as your guest, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, Winsome Sears suggested: just get in line and fill out some paperwork. Her father had immigrated from Jamaica at a time when this was possible. It no longer is. There is no line to get in. You have to be an IT specialist, a brain surgeon, or at least a skilled nurse or equally skilled professional to hope to get sponsorship to come to the U.S.. That's why those people south of your border show up at the border stations and sometimes cross at unauthorised points. They have no other course of action. If you are a low-skilled a farm hand or a maid, you have no recourse to immigrate into the United States. No line to get into. Therefore these immigration discussions are excruciatingly frustrating for me to watch. There's never an actual immigrant who has gone through the arduous process discussing the issue. Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears and others who immigrated as children with their parents don't count. I'm talking about present day immigrants. Ask them what line they should get into. The fact is that the U.S. immigration system is broken. The nostalgic documentaries of Ellis Island don't apply today. Talking about immigration on the show without actual immigrants is the same as if you talked about black issues without actual black person present discussing. I wish you made an effort to improve on this. The same goes for other things, such as transsexuals and the gun violence issue. There's many rumors but little facts. But I will leave it here for now. Thank you for your show. Keep up the good work and I will see you on RU-vid. Best wishes, Tomi
Winsome Earle-Sears is an immigrate first of all. Second, immigration of a country should be souly debated with citizens of that country who take into account what's for the country's best interests and not what's in citizens or immigrate from other countries best interests. Next, the guest DID NOT make it seem like immigration is or ever was simple. You CLEARLY was NOT listening. Their entire point was that immigration into the U.S. is *NOT* simple, so because of that, it's *NOT* fair to people in the past and present who are obeying the laws to see millions to be rewarded for breaking them. I'm am black and your comparison of blacks issues and immigration issues is illogical. Americans can talk about American immigration without any immigrates being present because immigration is an American issue.
Countries have no obligation to take the world's unskilled. When America was established and the borders were open ovwr a century ago, the u.s. offered no entitlements, No social security, no unemployment, no welfare , No medicaid no -nothing even for it's OWN CITIZENS! THAT'S why we allowed anyone in- because if they succeeded, the u.s. would be better off and if they didn't they would end up going back to their own country making the u.s. no worse off. If all you can do is make leather straps for donkeys or water buffalo you will end up needing unemployment, welfare, and then we have to pay for your English lessons and skill training too? Only a country that is suicidal would engage in that kind of immigration policy. You can't allow the world's unskilled to come in if you're also going to offer them entitlements when they can't succeed and they won't succeed if they're uneducated even in their OWN language.
and it takes years in other countries, other countries don't even allow you to be full citizens no matter how long you live in them why should we just let in countless people when we're barely taking care of our own people. its stupid we don't need millions or even thousands of new people every damn year keep the folks we have now if they want to stay and lock it down for the new folks until after we fix our own problems first... I'd be willing to bet you don't live anywhere near the border
The very rich complain about too much Government but are the same people who wanted the Government to back their money in the bank over $250,000! We simply have too many Billionaires and not enough people working for a decent living wage.
“I’m from Massachusetts and we used to refer to New Hampshire as Kentucky in New England”, I guess he forgot that the rest of the country refers to people from Massachusetts as Massholes 😉
You do realize that areas that are predominantly all white are overwhelmingly a safer place to live with way less crime and poverty compared to a more diverse area. It's absolutely staggering to see and really shines a light on the devastating effects that a false sense of victimhood wreaks on the black community.. case in point a place I grew up near: East St Louis: My "white" grandma grew up in E.STL in the 30's & 40's but when the "white flight" happened and all of the blacks started moving in beginning in the 50's, the entire city went to absolute shit. There are blocks that literally look like a war zone. Al6ot of the house are utterly destroyed. It looks like a bomb went off every other block... And there's not a single white person left in that city and I am not kidding! I heard that every once in a while a white person would try moving in down there bc they were down on their luck and the blacks would run them off within a month by harassing them and stealing their shit. Bc alot of them down their are racist as fuck bc of the victimhood industrial complex that is perpetrated by the democrats in that surrounding area.. not all of the blacks in E.STL are shitty tho, I had a couple gang banger friends down there that I knew for quite a long time and I would buy crack/heroin off of them and just kick it. It was legit. It really sucks that (almost) an entire group of people are enslaved to a (false)mindset that is destructive on every level. It promotes laziness and criminality and a bad attitude which is fueled by the excuses that are engineered for said behavior and it perpetuates the worst of stereotypes within the community which unfortunately then spreads to decent, hardworking black people who don't deserve that label whatsoever yet may end up suffering the consequences down the road just by perception. That is an unfair dynamic by all metrics but it seems it's happening like that bc the worst acting of the bunch seem to over represent in the community. Negative traits like criminality and hustling are overwhelmingly glorified in black media. Along with the message that the "white man" is always trying to push you down and keep you from succeeding or stealing your accomplishments, etc.. there was definitely some truth to that a long time ago in regards to the way some whites treated blacks I understand. But nowadays that statement is patently false yet the false narrative is kept alive by repetition and perpetuated thru bad actors claiming to be the solution in order to curry favor with the whole group over and over again in a shameless power grab(Obama).. I wish it would get better for them folks but it seems like it just keeps repeating over and over and there is no way to stop it. There needs to be a drastic change. P.s.: Even tho I mention them twice, I'm not trying to single out the democrats on purpose in what I said above. It's just that my observations happen to be true and if the Democrats have held 89% of the black vote for 50+ years and those people are basically still in the same spot from the beginning, Well then they arent just partly to blame- they are complicit.
50 years ago, there was no line for a lot of immigrants. Today many immigration categories have backlogs of >20 years. Her answer was like when your grandpa says the way he got a job was going up to the employer and asking for one, not realizing that most jobs today require an online application to be filled out.
He claims to have so much concern for people's needs, and then has only criticism for socialism. Other countries take much better care of their needs then the U.S. That's what socialism is all about genius.
It says more about the two-party system than Sununu. The RNC is forcing candidates to sign a pledge to vote for the GOP nominee no matter what, otherwise they won’t be able to participate in the primary debates. If Sununu doesn’t say that, he basically won’t be able to run.
@@TheGoofy1932 He's worse. He voted for anyone from dog catcher to President if they have an (R) after their name. He shows himself to be thoughtless in his partisanship. An unredeemable deplorable.
He is the personification of the republican noise machine. I love how during the show, he said “I love to listen.” But he never shut his mouth long enough for Bill to say anything. Republican hypocrisy at its best.
Seems to be a disproportionate number of comments about Sununu considering that Earle-Sears was such a piece of work too!! Bill let her get away with way too much too. In the show she said that drag queens were doing lap dances in schools. So level headed and rational!
Back in 2015, when Donald Trump presented himself as a candidate, I listened to his very first speech and decided within 10 minutes that I could never support him for president of the United States. I have just listened to Sununu and reached precisely the same conclusion. That was absolutely pathetic.
The People want cheap entertainment, one-liners, zingers, something to upload and laugh at, or get their ire up! It's Vaudeville of the 21st century. Politicians and their bedmates love the side-show as a distraction to what they are really doing!
I agree... ten minutes in and I thought there's no way modern people would vote for this guy... yeah I was wrong. Thank God the checks and balances the founding fathers put into our government held. God bless every good person who stood up and did the right things to save our country.
Wealthy people talking about politics in America is becoming increasingly frustrating when poor. It’s not about left or right, it’s a bottom versus top fight.
@@hew195050 People would still devolve into groups. Washington wanted just that, no parties but they realized it was not practical. What we need are another four or five political parties which then forces a coalition government which essentially forces various sides into working together. It ain't perfect, but it would be a far sight better than what we have currently.
I really enjoyed this clip. All the panelists were engaged and feistily friendly. I really like Lt. Gov. Sears and I'll watch anything she's on. She's so intelligent, fair, level-headed, funny, and beautiful, to boot.
And said the quiet part out loud and admitted South Carolina suppresses their voters especially the Democratic ones. States like Texas and South Carolina have low voter turnout by design.
I'm a Californian and a democrat but I don't really like Newsom. Most of the complaints I have about DeSantis are the same I have about Newsom -- they're both performative. I remember when Roe was overturned last year. I was riding the train to work and saw an advertisement where he encouraged people from out of state to come to California because we have everything figured out. Meanwhile, here I am on the train, everything smells like smoke because half the state is on fire and I look out the window and pass tent after tent after tent after tent after tent after tent on the side of the tracks. I love California but the way this guy constantly pats himself on the back and talks about CA like it's literally the happiest place on Earth has always set my teeth on edge.
I am a liberal living in a very red state. I agree with John Kon. We are in desperate need as a nation to get back to honest debate. That’s the way it worked on political TV shows for decades. Neither of the two parties have it all figured out. I watch this show for honest dialog and different perspectives from my own. As I said, I live in a very red state, and I am so sick of smug insults and such black and white agenda driven messaging. Sununu did it here on Overtime. It isn’t enough to state their position and back it up with facts. They have to insert character assassination and name calling every single time they speak about opposing positions. Own the Libs! That message says way more about them than it does about the left.
As a Black man in America, you Liberals are nothing but liars, racist's & hypocrites, who think that people of color need you. Your predatory non profit's & fake outrage do nothing but hinder the Black community. But that's ok, Trump not only exposed Liberals, but made them show their true colors. You will learn Liberal, that Blacks & Latino's will be voting Red in record numbers om 2024. The racist , dementia having Joe Biden is done. I live in a red county in PA where i moved from San Francisco where i used to live all my life. I am extremely liberal but frankly i am lovin it here in my city. Yes the reds here have trump flags on their lawn but they dont bother anyone and many of them are very nice people ...theyre just a little bit over patriotic and suspicious but it SURE beats living in a crime ridden homeless city like norcal. I at least feel safe in my home now, the worst thing that happens here is lots of white folks with those waspy personalities
Lol Republicans had to deal with yall doing that kinda crap all of Obama years and then trump years turned yall into baby's every single night on TV bashing and saying mind blowing lies to try to get what you want. Now you get back the same stuff and yall can't handle it at all its so funny.
We are a flawed democracy on the Democracy Index because of 1) the electoral college 2) plurality voting 3) the Senate 4) allowing state politicians of the majority party to draw district lines instead of an independent commission 5) money in politics (aka, legalized corruption), Citizens United, lobbyists, etc Because these things have a near zero chance of changing, we will continue to suffer the results. Trump is a warning sign, a symptom, of a broken political system. So, try not to hate the player. Hate the game. +++BONUS+++ “We are a republic, NOT a democracy!” - says the uneducated. We are both! To simplify, our republic is like a car, and democracy is the fuel that makes the car move. The USA is like an old Chevy pickup, running on cheap gas. Sweden and Finland are like Porsches running on premium unleaded. The DPRK, Republic of Congo, and People’s Republic of China…are names that imply Maybach, Mercedes, Lamborghini, but in reality they are Pinto, Edsel, and Yugo, running on Four Loco. Also, the USA doesn’t care what kind of car other countries may drive, only that it runs on democracy fuel. (For example, Great Britain). We advocate democracy to the world, but we have not mastered it ourselves. An irony Putin enjoys pointing out.
As a liberal, I’ve had enough of late night shows endlessly dunking on conservatives. It’s not funny to me, any more, it’s tragic. Lets list them: Bill Maher The Daily Show Stephen Colbert The Problem with John Stewart The Late Night with Seth Meyers Jimmy Kimmel Show The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon show tries to be even handed. Again, it fails to make me laugh, just makes me sad about the state of our country.
4:34 I think he finally rounded out his flippant criticism of the other 49 states except for NH with this comment - and he wants to be the nation's leader. I'm from Manchester, England and I'm about as electable as he is in 2024. Goofball.
Well the two others were partisan GOP and even though JK writes for a Conservative publication , he is from Massachussets and Jewish which is scary for most current GOP officials
Your comment has merit with respect to Bill. He was a little to enamored with engaging with the Governor and certainly did not address Winsome Earle- Sears positions on many matters @@garyhoward9202
A good start on the subject of immigration reform is appointing more immigration judges. If more cases can be heard, the system will not be so congested.
Yeah. All those people so concerned about "the children's education" (meaning, business profits) never once expressed any concern that (a) children also might die and (b) more critical at the time -- children could infect the adults around them. But, oh! The tragedy of lock-down and having to wear a mask!!
Trump incompetency in properly informing us about covid led to the restrictions and deaths of millions. He know about an emerging pandemic in 2019 but ignored it only thinking about his re-election where he lost anyway.
WoW, The lieutenant governor of Virginia actually said, 'believes they're transgender poll dancing in schools & she asked Bill to get out and read more😅🤯🙈
8 bodies have just been found trying to cross through the Mohawk territory of Akwesasne into the States. If you want to do things about the northern border, you'll have to negotiate with First Nations. Iranians trying to leave Canada for the States is a different matter entirely - guess they had a lot of money for HMO's. Sununu is one smug bastard, isn't he?
Gov. Chris Sununu is a great guy. I live in NH. He’s a good person and a one of the more balance and good leaders. Give him a chance and quit trying to align him to other people. He is himself.
Here’s Sununu’s worldview in a nutshell, using a simple scenario as an example: He’s a guy who would be at a table with another guy and they’d each be doing jigsaw puzzles. Sununu’s would have 50 pieces; the other guy’s had 1000 pieces. Sununu would finish his first and start crowing and bragging about it and declare himself the winner.
@@snuffeldjuret If that question was addressed to me, I'll answer it this way: Sununu seems to think that all states are the same and running a huge state like CA is no different than a much much smaller state like NH. He loves to bash CA and cite all the problems but he's got an easier job than any governor of any large state. And does this with an irritating smugness and lack of self-awareness that I find extremely obnoxious.
My brain is still exploding from listening to Sununu. He does NOT deserve the label of "moderate" that's been thrown around. I'm still shocked to hear people say they'll vote for the Republican candidate no matter who - along party lines - even when the candidate is Trump. Country first, not party is my motto. DISGRACE! BTW, was he on speed? He comes across as hysterical and overwrought. He did himself no favors with his appearance on the show.
Agree, albeit, while I applaud Bill Maher for persistently inviting republicans on the show: He's definitely committed to having guests from Republican party to pick their ideologies apart. My brain's still exploding from another "Big Red" grad repeatedly using same malapropism: "You're 'chomping' at the bit to run"? It's "Champing" at the bit. Its not a biggie, however, Bill's so bloody smart, his vocabulary is better than this ingrained malaprop. We all have our quirks-LMAO! Funny as hell to visualize Sununu 'chomping' 😂Must be one of Bill's subconscious thoughts related to over eaters? 😉
Seriously. I had this image of him as a "Northeast Moderate Republican." Dude is out of his mind. And won't shut the fuck up. He's completely obnoxious. Eye opener for me.
But one candidate does not represent the party. Trump will still do what the GOP want so he is a better choice for Republicans than ANY Democrat. That is the whole point of having parties. You don't vote against your party because you might disagree with the leader. Yeah Republicans want a better guy at the top but that doesn't matter if the American public want Trump.
