It's possibly the most important 'subject' to learn beyond the three R's, yet seems to be one of the least taught thing. I don't even know where I learned it, since was not something really on the curriculum in school ( back 30+ years ago, before www , deepfakes, 'ai' generated articles). Most of where I actually cultivated it, came from comedians like George Carlin or Bill Hicks. I seriously think a school class based around stuff like 'George Carlin on Advertising' would be more beneficial, than knowing where every country is on a globe, or what year the Battle of Hastings happened.
Get a cell phone plan with about 20GB and use your cell phone for wifi. Cheap, easy, portable. I quit using internet service years ago and no longer have to find a place for the router, either. I quit TV and never signed up for cable, but use free RU-vid. Is it perfect? It's as good as everything else, at essentially zero cost. Try, then you can cut the cable and internet BS yourself.
I ONLY have comcast for internet so that I can be on my desktop computer and look at stuff like this, and play whatever games I want to play. Comcast continually raises my cost I ONLY have internet, and it costs me 75 dollars each month. I used to have TV with it many years ago, but it skyrocketed so much that I have to use an antenaea, and it doesn't usually work, so I watch shows on the interenet instead.
I think he should get rid of that editorial he does after New Rules. And maybe even get rid of New Rules. Then extend the conversation part. Although it seems their intention is to make sure there's enough comedy to keep people's attention.
Godd*mn, that lady’s blue bell ice cream sandwich for breakfast vs getting to school on time was painfully relatable I swear, sometimes you just can’t reason with these little individuals you might as well try reasoning with a rock 😂
I was a latch key kid through the 70's and 80's. Both parents working full time jobs and by age 7 I could open a can of corn and warn it up on the gas stove. While I never did anything really wrong, I wasn't perfect. Throwing rocks at each other (kids!) I cracked a windshield. When Dad asked me if I did do it, I told the truth (or fear the belt!) and I had to work to pay it back. I screwed up and had to work to make it right. No trophy in that but a great life lesson.
These companies are gouging the American public and the streaming companies are following suit on high costs continuing to raise costs. They never improve the quality of the service either!
I look forward to my Friday nights, whenever Bill is on, I know, the conversation will be intelligent and it makes me wish it would last longer and it was on every night like it was in the days of "Politically incorrect."
Sarah is absolutely right. Young men are confused and stressed, there's so much they're told they can't do or say with regards to the opposite sex, and they're seen as the enemy.
After grocery store giants Kroger/Albertson/Safeway merger is broken up in anti trust court! Monopolizing our food industry down to two? Walmart and them? No FN way
I don't live in Texas but I have a hard time believing Beta when he said they are banning women drivers. He is leaving something out or stretching the truth somewhere.
yeah there is definitely more nuance to what he mentioned, but he was talking about women driving out of state for abortion procedures, not women drivers outright. from what i've read in the texas tribune, there are actually ordinances put in place by cities on or near the interstate borders, like amarillo for instance. however, they don't actually have checkpoints or physical barriers. they're mostly meant to be discouraging scare tactics. enforced or not, these ordinances are unconstitutional either way
There is nothing you can do about that. That's our social evolution. I've accepted that I'll be single forever and one of the reasons why is because I don't keep my face in my phone, and I can't be close with the people who do that.
"Why are men getting turned off to the Democrat party?" - "Well I asked my teenage daughter that question and here's what she thinks..." - yep, that encapsulates the actual answer right there
Did you hear what Beto said after that? Because that was the answer you were looking for. 😂😂😂😂 How did you miss that? I know, you didn’t like that a teenager could have an opinion.
@@Etatdesiege1979 I don't know if it was Beto's honest answer but it boiled down to 'abortion' - which was equally ridiculous. I mean it had nothing to do with the actual question. He basically just chose to talk about something completely different
Bill was clearly just bringing up some background on the question that was asked to Kara for the benefit of the audience, her "I'm aware" felt a bit needless. She was implying what, that he was mansplaining when she's the expert? He was just being a host.
Full of herself, I thought, and I didn't find her so smart. It's more than just the price point for Electric Cars - it's the disposal of the batteries, the abrupt transition from fossil fuels, etc. And you're right - he was just giving background to the audience.
I think she was an intelligent person used to speaking with very smart people who had some complicated arguments to make about subjects she thinks are important in a relatively small amount of time available and she wanted to make the most of it. In the general dumbed down entertainment field half stoned Maher show, it was a little out of place.
She didn’t really answer any question. EXAMPLES 1. it’s really complicated and Amy has written a book that can kill a poodle. 2. I know something because I raised 4 children. Raising militia ha ha. No content.
The EV situation in California is so stupid. We do not have the infrastructure yet and it's not even close. Plus the price for EV vehicles is still too high.
I"d rather DOJ go after the food monopolies and even prevent Giant corporations like Krogers and Albertson's merging. I'd rather the FTC and the DOJ break up Bayer/Montesanto and Unilever than focus on phone makers and their apps.
I'm supportive of the Kroger Albertsons merger because they're trying to stay competitive with Walmart and Amazon and the myriad others also out there and they have fallen behind. That one is actually understandable.
So using your logic on Palestine, all the innocent people in Iraq under Saddam and all the people in all the countries that we went to war in that were not able or allowed to vote on the governments that ruled over them was ok to be killed just because they lived there. Palestine hasn't had an election in 17 years. A good amount of the people killed in this haven't had the opportunity or even old enough to do anything about their situation. I am not saying what hamas did was right because it wasn't and it is not what Israel deserved. What i am saying is killing a people just because of where they are from is not right. Israel is doing nothing but creating more terrorists that will attempt to get retribution in the future.
i liked the comment, though i don't agree with it. politics is thought to be different than war, and this distinction is important to know. but i think that political science and war studies are one in the same. the wielding of power underlies both fields of thought.
Biden wants to win back the 18-25 vote? Federally legalize weed like you said you would during your first 100 days. That should/could get you some of them back.
Recently some 18yo idiot, high on weed and booze, plowed into a minivan, killing 4 people...He was doing roughly 100mph...I do not want to see weed legalized.
That would also be marvelous, but most people under 25 are on their parents insurance. So that's not something that demographic is focused on and I believe legalizing pot would do better.
I always watch Overtime. This is the first time I have watched OT twice. This has to be the cleverest segment I have seen in years. The laser-like exchanges in the Maher-Swisher-Isgur three-way had me howling (although Maher was mostly officiating in this instance). Toss in O'Rourke's thoughtful anecdote and the 10 minutes flew by like a jet. Isgur and Swisher would do well to take their act on the road - I would definitely buy a ticket! Proof that the ladies are leaving the men at the train station - Beto & Bill would have done well to also have bought a ticket to this snappy and smart speed show. Comedy platinum - dammit, I'll watch a third time!

The antiquated and lack of electrical infrastructure to meet the needs of the EV market needs to be addressed. At some point the states infractures will not be adequate.
I don't know how long it took for the "gas station infrastructure" to fully develop (where there was a gas station reasonably close depending on ratio of cars to population), from the time motorcars were on the road (say 1905) but lets say 30 years. I think it's reasonable to expect the same sort of timeline.
@@MoonlightingJamesExcept there was a huge boom of oil pushing the growth of the infastructure for gas powered vehicles. There is no such boom for the production of electricity. We're afraid of going nuclear and none of the renewable options is even close to enough to sustain our current grid let alone the massive increase of energy that EVs would demand.
So brilliant she responds to statistical data about young men as a personal attack and replies ONLY with defensive, egotistical anecdotes? 😂Also, were you not a reader during the years she built up the false celebrity images of tech bros in the early years? 😂
@@hd7704 , True I was not a reader when she "built up false celebrity images of tech bros". So I can't form a complete opinion of her. An people change, keep this in mind. But from her recent takes she strikes me as highly educated woman with our interests in mind. I'll grant you the term "our interests" could be debated depending on our P.O.V.
Even if it can't the solution isn't to give up on electric cars. The solution is to improved the grid. However, it's not so bad thus far because a lot of people charge at home overnight.
Yes. This concern is overblown pearl clutching. 80% of EV charging is done at home. This is unlikely to change much or quickly The growth rate of EV uptake is slow enough to easily allow for electricity infrastructure upgrade.
If we truly have a consumer-driven economy, the infrastructure will be built, and the truth is, we do charge overnight mostly. It’s long trips that are very concerning. It’s a safety issue. Gov has to step in and hold electrify America accountable for their lack of upkeep and d ease of use.
@@SolidAir54321 if EV was solution to helping the environment the powers that be would not be pushing it lol. last time I checked the schools low on educating our youth but ya lets focus on ev. The government is not our friend.
@@chillones9574The government is not your friend but the fossil fuel industry is??? But big corporations are?? You're a victim of Ronald Reagan's propaganda machine. They want you to think the government is against you. But in reality you have the power to vote for your government. You have no vote in corporations. Corporations are not democracies. Corporations are like dictatorships. They're controlled by one or very few people called a board of directors. Why are you against the only institution where you _do_ have democracy? The crisis of climate change is a fact. EVs help to mitigate that. So promoting EVs is a good thing regardless of whether you like the government or not.
She's also a plagiarizer and a hack who is pretending she wasn't the fake journalist who did the most to make a-hole tech bros like Elon famous in the first place (while getting rich)
The thumbs up I gave is only for Kara and Beto in this discussion. You have to listen to Kara Swisher and Professor Galloway on their Pivot podcast; they're brilliant. Do I agree with everything they say? No, but they make good points and inspire good conversation. I've learned so much from them.
Bill Maher on "I've been hearing for 10 years that there will be enough charging stations to charge all EVs", it's not like Congress JUST approved a little over a year ago funds for 500,000 chargers, does he really not know that?
I think you missed the reason why the US taxpayers are funding those charging stations. Private companies that make EVs are not building charging stations at the same pace they're producing the vehicles. Now, since the government has done it for them, they're building even less. The attitude is, why spend our own money to support the product we make if we can get the American taxpayers to do it for us for free? So now, charging stations will never be built unless the government does it.
You should fight every bad regulation. Nazi germany everything was regulated, then they took the guns and then 6 million dead Jews. The left is literally on the wrong side of history trying to disarm America when most of us are good law abiding citizens. The criminals however are the politicians that INFRINGE.
Yeah... I mean, seriously, you can't own one if you don't have a garage. My neighbor recently offered to give me his 4-year-old Nissan Leaf b/c he's upgrading, and I had to turn it down because we only have street parking and wouldn't be able to charge it. 😔
I know we have to get to electric vehicles eventually, but there are quite a few things about them that need to be improved/perfected before they totally take over. If they have an $80000 price tag, I couldn't own one. And if it costs $10000 to replace the batteries after 5 years, that's another big expense. They need to make these cars affordable, safer (especially preventing battery explosions), faster charging, longer ranging, and be able to function as completely in sub-zero weather as they would in the summer. I worry that since I'm the kind of person who buys the $2500 specials off the used car lots to get me around town, that someday I'll be disenfranchised from driving because I can't afford a car to drive.
EV mandates are insanity. Not only do people no longer own homes with garages so they can't charge them easily. We do NOT have the electrical infrastructure OR generating capacity to accommodate a quarter, let alone a half the country or more driving a fully electric vehicles. I've worked in Nuclear Power all my adult life, I know what our grid capacities can handle and we have NEVER been worse off than we are now. Wind and solar are a pipe dream. They can NEVER provide base load generation and now we need increasing base load 24 hours a day to accommodate more EVs. I'm telling you, right now, the price of electricity is going to SKYROCKET if we don't invest in baseload generation and your only REAL choices are gas, coal and nuclear which except for nuclear defeats the entire purpose of having EV cars in the first place! In the case of nuclear people are still so stupidly frightened of it it's become nearly impossible to build more plants. We are driving forth (no pun intended) in ignorance which is the worst thing you can do.
@@srkh8966 Right, because listening to Greta Thungberg on Climate Crisis when she was 15 turned out sooooooo well... Smart phones have more computing power and ability than 99% of the population needs. 99% chance you're fine either way. Apple's gonna cost more and there's a status symbol going on like a Mercedes. But again 99% don't even use 5% of what the phones could do ten years ago. Nobody needs 4k decoding on their phones. They'll build and bake in the software updates so you need to upgrade eventually but really for most people you should be holding on to your phone as long as possible before recycling it. It's 99% marketing.
This is exactly why apple is the status symbol, though they did teahouse a few years ago: whereas Samsung has a massive range, with a flagship all the way down to cheap options, apple thought they're rolls Royce, only need 1 model, then sales stayed dropping when those who couldn't afford it, that's why they've come up with ways to keep you locked in

OMG, I am so sick of this EV debate. I am a mechanic and deal with EVs all the time. Why does it seem Democrats are the only people that won't read past the headline when it comes to EVs. EVs have serious downsides to them. EVs are not the answer that everyone wants it to be. the Battery technology isn't there yet. we have to have precious metals to even make the Batteries of which we don't have enough for even half the vehicles needed and that's not accounting for replacement batteries in 10 years. environmental cost are terrible for extracting these precious metals. Energy cost are also prohibitive. I think last years comment when it got hot from California's PG&E was you can charge your car or have the A/C on in your house but you can't do both. people are turning away from EVs for good reason. I'm not even mentioning the safety problems with EV's batteries. EV's are important technology that need to be followed and maybe in 30 to 50 years, the technology will have gotten better and it can be seriously discussed. making t5hem mandatory is the dumbest thing anyone in government has ever done. there are good alternatives to EVs and gas cars right now that look very promising but everyone is so focus on EV's, that no one thinks of the downsides that are quite frankly worse than current gas engines.
@jenniferh8961 EVs have a very narrow situation window where they are an excellent alternative for gas. Mild climates (not too hot and not too cold), and if all you are doing is driving short drives around town or to nearby towns. If you have a garage to store them in and a home charger to charge them. In those scenarios, they work fantastic until you have to replace the battery at $25,000 plus for a replacement battery. Anything outside of those perimeters, they start costing you more than to own a gas car would. (Depending on the car) forget about a truck. Ford dealers can't even give away their lightnings. Even with a massive battery bank on those trucks that can literally power a house for days, it can only give you roughly 200 to 300 mile range at optimum temperatures. Do the research yourself and decide. Good luck.
I was just worried we would be forced to buy electric, I have no interest. And you got me when you relayed the PGE comment about choosing charging your car or AC- not an option!
@jenniferh8961 I live in MN and we have a complete moron for a governor also. He got one of those stupid laws passed as well. Complete stupidity. Which ever way a person votes or how badly a person wants EVs to work. You can't get around the physics of them and our current knowledge of them.
Electric cars are definitely the future, but to just gloss over the issues with the lack of infrastructure now and moving forward is delusional and irresponsible.
IDK about rural areas & small towns, but here in Columbus, OH, there are charging stations all over the place! I've seen a charging lot in Reynoldsburg, stations along the street (where you can charge your car where you'd be parking anyway!), & even a charging station at a Walmart! Also, you CAN charge your car at home with a regular outlet in the garage. It just takes longer (like overnight)!
