Glad you correctly pointed out that the wide body only came with the pre-facelift Z3. Far too many owners of facelift models insist their cars are ‘wide body’, this is incorrect. A pre-facelift Z3 2.8 wide body with the TU engine is the one to go for if you can find a good one. Beautiful car, lovely to drive with an analog feel but modern running gear & brakes.
Thank you brother, I just started looking at Z3s and this video has been phenomenal to figure out the different options out there and know exactly what to look for. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this information. It might be worth mentioning thinks like the Ariel can leak water onto the roof motor (if the roof is electrically operated).
We have a 2001 Z3 with 2.5L, manual Dakar Yellow for our summer fun car. This car is inexpensive, handles well, sounds good and looks good. What more could you want in that price range for a toy.
Great video! You clearly have a gift for production and your English is SPOT ON mate! I love BMW and they gifted the world with an awesome roadster! But I’ll admit I have a bit of a soft spot for the coupé (aka Clown Shoe)! I look forward to watching more of your videos, THANK YOU!
I want one a the hardtop for my Z but after almost 20 years of owner I'm not sure about it now lol. Still want it. That's a nice Z you have a super clean
do you know how many kilometres the motor lasts on the 2.8 litre Z3? Ive seen some say 200,000 klms. there's one for sale which has 196,000 on the clock and I'm wondering if I'll be up for engine replacement
Hi & greetings from Poland! What a great content you’ve created! I wonder if the antenna in your car is an automatic? If so, can you please send me a link to the producer? I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
@@Carsaddiction that is correct. I wanted to instal aftermarket automatic antenna in my 1996 1.9 ,but I found none that fits. When I saw the antenna in your car I thought maybe you found one.
@@ChrisThe. what you need to start of with is something like this - ebay.us/xQrDN6 - then custom make a bracket and wiring. The product I shared is ideal because it has many attachments so you can match one that fits the Z3 the best.
You do know a lot of accurate information brother. My hat off to you. Great job. I just installed M seats in my nephews 1.9. How exactly do you reset the airbag light using the engine bay OBD2 port? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the comment! You would need a diagnostic tool for that, and the most inexpensive combo I found was the Foxwell scanner and the adapter - amzn.to/3snWL8I and amzn.to/3GpuL9O - it will pay for itself eventually. The Z3 has 2 ports, the abs is controlled by the one in the engine bay, hence why you need the adapter.
Great review. I `m looking for a Z3 with 2.8, but I`ve heard about the problem of burning oil around these engines and it seems usually related to piston rings, which is very hard to DIY. Is this a very common problem that`s almost always there if picking up a Z3? Or it`s just a problem reported 1 out of 100 cars?
As with all cars, if it has been maintained well it would serve you well and not be a problem as such with the M52B28 or M52TUB28 if going for a 1999 onwards.
Right off the bat, you failed to mention that the 1.9L front bumper is different than the 2.8L front bumper on all pre-facelift cars. Also, the large offset in the wheels is primarily on the M cars. The prefacelift 2.8L usually had the staggered 17" wheels, where the 1.9L usually had the 16" wheels. Other than that, the rest of the video is pretty accurate.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(((///
The hobby will be more expensive to keep. And when this happens a lot of cars will be scrapped, making the special ones rarer and that is when the values will go up.
