@@HUBERSUHNERGroup in that case I guess I can just look up the specs individually. 😁👍 I have a dual 10G Ethernet card in the server currently. It generates a lot of heat. So I was thinking of replacing it with a fiber card. I had heard in another video they put out less heat. If that is true then I'm further down the rabbit hole of doing DAC or AOC. 😆
@@CampRusso 😄 okay, understand. However, if we are talking about 10G and a shorter distance (up to 10m), a DAC will require around 0,3W per transceiver (i.e. per side). An AOC requires more along the lines of 1W per side. In other words, it does have quite an effect on the heat dissipation but then again the quest is how much this is in relation to the overall power consumption of the network card…
@@CampRusso yes. Both the 10G DAC and AOC use SFP+ transceiver form factors at either end of the cable. Same form factor and less power consumption definitely results in less heat dissipation. However, from the top of my head I cannot tell you how much this means in degrees. Nevertheless, in your case and for a distance of 2m I would definitely recommend DAC. Not only is the power consumption / heat dissipation less but also the price tag 😉
