Killing 3rd party tournaments is a death knell for any competitive game honestly. The longest running comp games are build and held by the community and any attempt the original devs had to steal it was met horribly. Removing 3rd party tournaments just meant less tourneys which meant less people willing to risk a tourney (players spectators and funders)

The boys and I loved watching OWL as a watch party. But actually most of all, what we’ll miss is the personalities of the casting crew. After building a connection/watching them over the years it really sucks, especially after Zoe’s speech. That hit hard!

Genji winton, and I'm watching the ashe or soj with two supports pocketing them and my team is crying for me to turn around. I guess I just lose and go next? The only issue is that it's not like a one game experience. It's been almost everytime, hell I lost that same scenario. I was hog vs ball tracer ashe. Bringing OWL back would be a terrible idea. It hemorrhaged money, everyone pretended to watch it but the audience wasn't their, and players would force teammates to use strategies and comps that were impossible to imitate successfully in their rank. Owl also used resources that could of went to smaller departments. Overall The support for league was absent and ppl just want it back cause it's gone.

I started playing in a team and with a coach because I wanted to rank up, even started dreaming about tournaments, went and checked out and there was barely anything, hard to find and pretty much no way into "bigger leagues". There should be a pro scene and it should have multiple tiers, mutiple tournaments, I would take a look at CS and how successful that is, Valve chooses tournament orgs to host Majors, that is the creme de la creme, with open and close qualifiers. I think there is a chance, just let people who know the deal host them to begin with. AND NO FRANCHISING.

Overwatch cant have a successful pro scene bc overwatch doesnt have competitive integrity. Babying people on ladder and expecting a thriving competitive scene is like doing your kids homework for them and then wondering why they failed the test.

The problem with a pro scene for overwatch, is that they haven’t sorted the competitive mode or community team features (like a clan system) So players can’t take the game seriously anyway. That and the inorganic nature of OWL, was a recipe for disaster, how was anyone supposed to care about their “local” teams, when teams weren’t selected from their cities, they were all just Koreans? Not racisim but koreans are kinda rare here in the UK, even in london it’s a slim amount. So when all the teams were entirely korean it’s hard to feel like “oh that’s my team” you know? One of the few instances a little representation matters. The lack of grassroots tournaments is also what killed it. They wanted a premier league, but forgot to enable any divisions underneath that 🤷‍♂️ To this day we are lacking clans/teams, clan/team tournaments, clan/team events, a competitive system that doesn’t feel biased or broken. There needs to be an emphasis on playing BEYOND qp/comp and encouraging community. (Maybe a streamer event, where a selection of streamers get a team, you pick who you want to support and your wins go to the creators’ tallies’. and the winning team gets currency, and the winning creator gets a week or a few days of exclusive drops (ontop of support a streamer)) There needs to be financial incentives (better ways to earn gold currency, such as tournaments or limited time events) to improve the grind of the game and repair the relationship with the community. Enable the ability to purchase old battlepasses and play through at your own pace - or at least allow those who have bought the premium pass to do so (as we know you intend to put old pass items in the shop on rotation) There is so much to FIX that a competitive scene needs to be last on their mind - that scene will come. Speaking as a community and marketing strategist, Esports is a function of it’s community and is marketing not for profit - which is why OWL failed so miserably. You cannot expect much back from a community when all you do is take value rather than add it.

To be honest, looking back at Blizzard killing the third party tournaments.. .. i know it's popular and fashionable to just say "fuck Kotick, he ruined the game", but i genuinely wonder how much of OWL's downfall was tired to his influence and policies and attitude.. AND if he really was responsible for a big portion of it's failure, could the new Blizzard, under Microsoft, basically succeed where Kotick Blizzard failed? Just food for thought. It also would be nice to have a league again like UGC was. Disregarding what happened at the end with the sponsor thing.. it was healthy for the Overwatch community to have one (or two, with GGNA back then) tournaments that everyone mentally defaults to when asked "where could we go to sign up for a tournament?". I remember my first time participating in UGC (as a coach) and facing Gonzaga in one of our matches. Speaking of Gonzaga, i wonder how the OW leagues are doing in the collegiate scene...

How it works is if you pay a certain amount of money per season you get 3 extra avoid slots that have infinite time. So no more having only a week. You get to perma avoid.

sombra/hog rework kinda marked an unhealthy age for OW2 imo. We've all complained about hack and hook and how it makes the hero either absolutely busted or worthless but instead of a full rework we got a low effort small scale rework that didnt actually fix what we complained about. Now that mauga is out and he basically is the same exact way, people have noticed an unhealthy pattern. Maybe im wrong but im very curious how crazy the next hero is going to be since this one was so simple complexity wise but effective because dual minigun madness

Being a newcomer to OW2, these videos finally make me understand why Blizzard is the most hated game company. I mean I used to think Blizzard hate was the same as hate for Riot Games, which was there mainly coz of QoL and balancing. But man, was Blizzard a greedy corporation. It's amazing, really. I think overwatch can be a good esport but never the best. From a spectator standpoint, its just so hard to follow imo. Thats why games like valorant and cs are a lot more popular because you get to see people pop off with raw aim all the time. Sometimes it can look like youre doing nothing in overwatch but youre actually doing the right thing. People who play the game at a certain level can understand that but a good majority of the playerbase and spectators who dont even play overwatch wouldnt have a clue. I know league is a thing and that is honestly just as confusing as overwatch is from a spectator standpoint but i guess it really depends on the company and how they support the competitive scene.
