+DarkSun123456789 it actually reminds me a lot of black widow in the sense of she's had horrible things done to her just to be a perfect soldier so to speak.
The robot "race" that you see are called Omnics, robots with AI produced by Omniums which are self-improving automated robotics factories. These were developed by the Omnica Corporation, which is now defunct. After the company was dismantled, the factories reactivated of their own accord and pretty much self aware in Skynet fashion. This lead to what was to be known as the Omnic Crisis where humanity was besieged. Although it appears the attackers were mainly Bastion-like models with an overseeing program and not individual AI like the Omnics you see in this video. Humanity won...but the specifics aren't exactly clear. The individualized Omnics appear to free-roam of their own accord and it seems that most if not all wish merely to co-exist with humans. The Omnic "leader" you see in this video, Mondatta aka "Halo" and the Omnic hero you play in the game known as Zenyatta, believe that Omnics have or have something similar to souls and apparently have had spiritual experiences. Although the two had differing views. Mondatta wanted to use a dogmatic approach to improve ties with humans, Zenyatta believed in a more interpersonal approach and sought to help those in need through personal experiences. To give an example, Zenyatta helped Genji accept himself for what he was after becoming a cyborg.
The robot who was killed was named Mondatta. He was basically Robo-MLK; a big advocate for peace and tolerance between Omnics (robots) and humans. Omnics are persecuted in many parts of the world because of the Omnic Crisis, which was a global war between robots and humans and the impetus for the first era of the Overwatch.
Thanks! MOAAAAR. That guy is like Robot Martin Luther King. He is the mentor of another Overwatch fighter, a Omnic (robot) called Zenyatta. I am just pointing this out in case you see Zenyatta later and don't think "Oh, isn't this the guy who got shot in that short?"
If you are interested read these 8 things and be enlightened ;) 1)These robots, called omnics, and their facilities, called omniums, were incredibly common all over the world. People existed side by side with omnics, and while it wasn’t exactly utopia, it was peaceful. 2)Unfortunately, that peace didn’t last. For some reason, the ominums went rogue, and began churning out armies of militarized omnics that promptly began a global effort to overthrow the human race. 3)Desperate to fight back, the United Nations formed a team of the world’s best soldiers and best technology called Overwatch. 4)The result was utter adoration. The world fell in love with Overwatch, and the team transformed into an international peacekeeping force that delved into exploration and discovery. 5)But even though Overwatch was beloved, it didn’t mean the organization wasn’t without its own problems. The commanders of Overwatch were fighting over leadership .Gabriel Reyes(Reaper) and John “Jack” Morrison(Soldier 76). 6)On top of that, the organization was under fire from a series of shocking allegations accusing Overwatch of negligence, corruption and mismanagement, weapons proliferation, human rights abuses, and more. 7)Thirty years after it was founded, Overwatch was officially disbanded. Its agents, once shining heroes, were now viewed with suspicion and derision by the media and by the world. 8)It was Winston who saw what the world had come to, and decided to try and reform the team - without the UN or anyone else involved.Today, Overwatch exists as an independent organization of heroes - some new, some old, some even emerging from retirement. They’re all doing what they do best: trying to make the world a better place.
The Omnic that was assassinated is Mondata, he was the leader of the Shimbali, a group of Omnic-monks in Nepal, Zenyatta (the omnic in the game) is from the same Irder
Tracer's timey wimey tech only affect her and only her. And it only rewinds her status/position, she is still within the same time/space (sorta) as everyone else. So no she could not rewind time and save Mondatta. And yes, the dots on the Omnics is similar to the Buddhist dots.
The guy she shot is called Mondatta, a friend of the character in the game called Zenyatta. And they are/were both monks that meditated about robots having a consciousness or something in Nepal.
Those robots are sentient. However, years ago. there was a robot uprising that caused a global war. Which is what began the Overwatch task force. Eventually everything was settled but there is still a lot of tension. That robot was basically trying to promote peace between people and sentient robots.
You can't program another A.I in Overwatch, reason being is because they have evolved into becoming Sentient, which means they have feelings, dreams and emotions as a Human being, which concludes that they are & have individuality. They may not have a heart, but that does not necessarily mean they do not have a Soul.
K I'm going to answer some questions: The robot is a religious/spiritual leader preaching peace between humans and robots after the first omnicrisis, which was when robots gained sentience and some tried to exterminate humanity. He is also the "brother" of one of the playable characters. The dots on the head are from Buddhism which signifies a student becoming a master (I think). WidowMaker is blue because she was experimented on to slow her heart rate to enhance her sniping skills, this also caused her skin to go cold and blue.
Mondatta. Tekhartha Mondatta was the one killed, and the one the crowd was calling for. He's the leader of a group of Omnic monks. Zenyatta is the one in game, and he is also one of those Omnic monks.
To those of you wondering why widowmaker's skin is blue, its because she was experimented on so that her heart rate could be perpetually slowed to make her into a good sniper without reducing her stamina. Her skin is blue cuz of asphyxiation since lack of oxygen in the skin or something like that.
From what I have understood of the lore, all of those robots are called omnics, and they have some form of super advanced A.I. that gives them essentially a "soul", that's why some are very spiritual, and the guy featured here (called Mondatta) is the leader of a group of omnic monks (one of which is Zenyatta, the playable one). That dude basically is trying to keep shit from hitting the fan between omnics and humans and by killing him, Widowmaker and her organization (Talon) put a lot more tension there, for reasons yet unknown. The next short (Dragons) has a more self contained story, and it is amazing. Keep it up, guys, I love that you are taking interest in this game (or at least it's awesome cinematics)
A lot of the characters back stories come from other media. The sniper chick Widowmaker used to be married to an overwatch agent but she was kidnapped and tortured into becoming a sleeper agent. when she was "rescued" she killed her husband and went back to the bad guys who made her what she is in this short, the blue skin and modifications. Tracer has limited time abilities but they can only affect her time, so she can rewind or fast forward time to a degree but it only affects her. Winston I'm not entirely sure about, but I think he was part of a society of advanced gorillas created on the moon. his society rebelled and Winston left because he sided with the humans.
If you want to know the lore and story behind the Overwatch universe and its characters, I recommended looking up " Overwatch Origins - The Story You Never Knew! " a video by Curse Entertainment. It explains the universe of the game perfectly and it gives a short explanation of each of the games 21 characters
The machine's name was Mondatta, which was the name you heard them chanting. He's basically a robot Gandhi, basically the tension between humans and Omnic's was again becoming strained, Widowmaker was sent to assassinate him in the hopes of creating turmoil and war, also each one has their own soul, they die just as easy as a human can. Aaron was thinking of Zenyatta who is the support class in the game. Yes Widowmaker's skin is blue, she was part of some experiments with brain washing, and slowing her heart rate, blue skin and the whole fear of spiders bit about heartbeats. Tracer, she basically has something wrong with the cells in her body and is unable to remain stable, she would continuously move forward and back through time with no tether. Now, not by like years, just moments. It wasn't until Winston, the Gorilla was able to build her that Tony Stark style chest piece that allowed her to control it and remain grounded. So basically when you see her teleport, it's actually her moving forward in time, and yes she only affects her own time and no one else's.
Shane, you keep hinting around it lol. All I know is when you guys actually play the game (and you know which one I'm talking about, Shane) I want to be there. though I work on weekends so I might miss it on twitch. So I hope it gets uploaded to RU-vid as soon as you guys can so I can continue watching it. I love that game.
Widowmakers backstory: She was previously married to a man who was a enemy of Talon, who they tried to kill multiple times, but with no success. Soon, they decided the only way to get to him was through his French wife Amile (thinks that how you spell it). So Talon ended up kidnapping her and torturing her, making a perfect human weapon. With these methods, she began loosing oxygen in her skin, making her blue in skin colour. Soon, after teaching her to kill, they sent her to kill her own husband, what she succeeded in. Once doing so, she was sent on other missions as well, becoming a feared, heartless murderer and assassin. Hence she received the name Widowmaker. She was also the person who went up against the worlds most talented sniper, Ana, and she nearly died. But once Ana shot of her spider looking mask, she froze in shock to realise it was Amile. Then, Widow shot Ana in the eye through her own scope, and left with no remorse, continuing to kill for Talon...... Taa Daaaa~ hope this helps!
#MORECALVINREFERENCES One of my favorite movies of all time. "Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada." and "Death is a primitive concept. I prefer to think of them as battling evil in another dimension."!!! luv dat shite
Don’t expect anyone to be randomly watching this years later but I wound up here stoned. So am I just over analyzing or is there a really weird moment at 5:50 that no ones else has commented on. When tracers laying there Calvin has some weird reaction, like a nervous tick or trying to hold in anxiety or discomfort. Eric points this out subtly (on their screen where they see what the camera sees) to Shane and asks if he saw it and Shane laughs and says yeah and holds his head down covering his face. Eric then makes up something to keep it from getting awkward and says “her shits not working right” at which point Aaron finally had to laugh bc he was aware but trying to ignore it (covering his mounts with one hand) I know this is pretty early blindwave so he could’ve just had some nervous ticks on camera
#MoreCalvinReferences Not because it's funny, but on account of the fact that Reaper's ult is actually called "Death Blossom." Maybe that's where the devs got it from.
So, quick question: After you guys watch all the animated shorts, will there be some Let's Plays of the game? Like, everyone could play 2-3 games on Aaron's account, and put the result online, maybe? :) I'd love to see that! And everyone else would get to see the whole cast of characters! :)
Widowmaker's backstory is seriously fucked up. She used to be married to a highly-ranked Overwatch agent, until the terrorist organization Talon kidnapped and brainwashed her. She was found later and went back home to her husband. A couple weeks later, she killed him in his sleep, returned to Talon, and was subjected to physiological alterations that, among other things, drastically slowed her heartbeat and turned her into their perfect, nearly-emotionless assassin. What she says about spiders, that they feel no emotion and their hearts rarely beat except at the moment of a kill, applies to her as well.
calvin has a point.. they can just reprogram another halo or fix the old halo, but they dont and that isnt the case... maybe the omnics are part human, well to some degree, its a far fetched theory but there are too many secrets within overwatch so anything is possible...
Here is the bottom line. We WILL create sentient machines...its a certainty. That is one of the main goals of the human race right now/. When that happens, and they have distinct personalities, humans ARE going to fall in love with them. Its not wierd...its inevitable.
