I wonder when Devs will realize that making character kits or movesets based on preventing enemies from playing the game (freezing them solid in this case) is not a good thing? Hell, most of For Honor's playerbase ditched when Centurion was released because of "The Cutscene", almost killed it.
Mei has always been able to effortlessly 1v1 almost the entire roster, or at the very least survive the encounter, yet they keep buffing her again and again and again and again...
Power Creep is when the general power in a game increases over time. *example:* Mercy was the best healer at launch with 50 healing per second. Ana came out with 70 heals every .8 seconds and a burst heal that increases ally healing. Genji was considered to have good damage with 28 per shuriken every 0.75 seconds (.95 on left click). Now his damage is getting buffed because it's so damn weak.
Exactly, the “standard” for what is good slowly increases over time, because devs tend to make new stuff more powerful than old stuff (and then buff old stuff to compensate)
Your really overestimating Ana's healing if you say she power crept Mercy. Ana's shots can very easily miss cause everyone's moving erratically to avoid enemies and she has to recognize when someone's been hit, on top of her reloading lowering her time she is actively topping people off. Mercy has none of those problems. Ana does many things better than Mercy, pure healing isn't one of them.
Both companies can die for all I care. Blizzard only knows how to sit on its success and watch it decay, Activision only knows how to milk it's fanbase for money by making games with microscopic changes between eachother on a fundamental level.
@@speedwheel1807 Activision is what killed Destiny you hapless tool. What could have been an extremely good first game for Destiny was ruined by Acti's policies. They pushed for microtransactions, dlc, and to make D2 only a few years after D1.
I know this is an old comment but: Overwatch team employees talked about how Jeff Kaplan shielded their team from corporate bs and created a safe working environment for them. Blizzard higher-ups are definitely scumbags but Kaplan seems more than nice. It looks like Overwatch team had the least toxic working space, by far. Up until Kaplan’s leaving though. Many employees left the company with him too, for this very reason.
OW: gets no patch for 3 months players: it takes forever to get any updates TF2: approaching 3 years without any major update and no sign of any future content, a meta more stale than that random box of cereal in the back of your pantry, and literally every server filled to the brim with cheaters, griefers and general toxicity players: business as usual
At least TF2 had the main cast fucking DO something... Overwatch has been eternally trapped in the past lore-wise. Nothing has happened past winstons message to the former agents until the announcement of overwatch 2
@@lewiscain-mcaliece1805 There are still comics that advance stories coming out, did you know there was a whole story where the heavy's sister started dating soldier I think, and the TF1 characters Fought the TF2 characters. And overwatch has...
Overwatch in 2016 was designed for casual fun. Overwatch in 2021 is designed for tournaments. It's caused most of the game's casual players to get very upset with the game's new direction of "extremely punishing and steep learning curves...." Especially since that's the _exact opposite_ of what Overwatch used to be.
Kinda like Siege, but I’m pretty sure Ubisoft vision on Siege was to make it competitive. Still in the community people are mad and say that it’s dying as well. Year one OW was so fun and Siege didn’t get good until Y3 for me
The saddest realization is when you slowly realize that you agree with him. I loved this game, but god damn man. You made me sad with this one, not because I disagree but because I 100% agree
Man I deleted OW recently because there's absolutely no reason to play outside of competitive. And I will never forgive Blizzard for nerfing Hog the way they did. My boy didn't deserve it.
OW2 seems to be emphasising more on how you play the characters themselves than emphasising how the _game_ should be played so there may be hope for OW2 yet. But the way things are for Blizzard, I'm still just gonna keep an eye on it until it proves to be shit or decent.
This, but on a more serious note: Doomfist was built up for so long and when he finally came out, what was left to get hyped for? It's also when they just gave up on making new events and just recycled the same ones for the past three years. (also for some Terry!Doomfist lines, he would say "POWER!!!!" after getting nanoed and when it's 30 seconds left and you're losing he says "This is taking too long! I'm gonna miss the farmers' market!"
One of my main concerns would be, that Overwatch seems & IMO was originally designed to be played casually, but can now ONLY be played with an aggressive competetive mindset. You can't lean back & enjoy the game. Everyone has to be at peak performance at all times, or you will just not have fun with what is happening. In the beginning, it was not biggie if you won or not, but nowadays it's just near impossible to not want to smash your screen to pieces, once you lose. And no matter what you do, it's just a coin flip if you win or lose.
i really dont understand why everyone wanted to do esport vainglory does esport and it does harm than good bcs NOONE playing their game bcs their game are so good that no phone could run it and the dev are so generous that ppl wont buy shit heck, even casual game aiming to be esport. Could we have tic tac toe esport one day?
It's downright depressing. I started playing Overwatch to fill the void that TF2 left. Only to find out that Overwatch is now taking the same (and maybe arguably worse) path than TF2. I love both games to death but man, I'm not happy with the state of them.
@@balanced2482 eh, trying to return recently I dissagree as a pub player. OFC pub's been shit for a while but I could at least play without losing connection.
I still remember how happy I was to play junkensteins revenge that first time, same with winter wonderland and uprising, I absolutely loved this events when they first came out. Now they're just.. boring
Yeah it's just become boring, the bad decisions just pile up and there is no real new content, no significant updates in the lore to keep people interested, just skins that cost half the price of the game. And now they have the audacity to announce OW 2 which is just the same game but with a story campaign and make people pay for it, even though it should've been just an upate to add new content. I left OW months ago it's just not worth it, if you want to play OW 2 I suggest to check out Spacelords, it's an indie game still in development but it's still way better than whatever crap blizzards is serving us.
After the third year of the same events I just couldn't take it anymore. I remember the community was so sure that the next event will bring something new, but the only thing new was the skins. One of the main things I loved about this game was how they presented the lore with the cool cinematics and small comics...but then they just kept adding new characters with more lore than some of the original characters. Do we even know what Zenyatta has to do with the story? Where is he? After 3+ years he got nothing, perhaps he'll get something in OW2 but it's been so long I can't be bothered to care anymore about this game aside from it's porn.
2014 Overwatch: "We're here to dethrone you!" TF2: "Aight imma head out." 2020 Overwatch: *Rotting on the throne* TF2: "Hey I'm back from my walk through Hell, what'd I miss?"
Tf2 devs know not to try to control the way people play their game. The role locking system of Overwatch has hurt it more than anything, especially in QP. The game was more fun when you could run 6 torbs and call it a team.
As a person. Who still frequently plays Overwatch and still likes the game I do agree with most of the points in this video, I only really play e game hoping that it will one day be fixed

In the Aus/Singapore community, we kick bots as soon as they appear in the game. With servers getting filled up, they only show up once or twice in a match and not longer than 20 seconds
The real problem with Overwatch is that the designers want to have Overwatch simultaneously satisfy two completely different audiences with diametrically opposed goals. They want to serve the sweaty hardcore pro-gamer, and at the same time be accessible to the ultra-casual uncoordinated noob. At the same time. This is never, ever, *EVER* going to work. That is because, if your goal is to win the game, you're going to gravitate towards the simplest, most reliable, least-risky strategy which produces results. And let's be clear, by "risk", what I really mean is "skill". The Overwatch that fans like to watch is streamers who are performing outstanding feats of prediction, aim, and movement. Nobody is going to watch some guy squatting behind an barrier spamming grenades into a choke point, waiting for someone to run into them. If the Meta-game involved playing Heroes whose kits demanded and rewarded execution on challenging feats of aim, prediction, and movement, nobody would be complaining, because then you'd have a meta-game where the player who did a better job executing their character would win. Skill-based DPS lineups would be plentiful and fun, and the match would go to whoever did a better job landing their damaging abilities in their neutral game, getting more picks, and earning ults faster. But, instead, since they stuffed the Hero lineup with potato-friendly Heroes whose only challenge is making judicious use of their cooldowns, you get what has driven the GOATS meta: A boring, stifling brawl where everyone is ineffectually bouncing attacks off each other until someone charges up their ultimate. And rather than questioning the fundamentally flawed assumptions that have driven their design choices into the sewer it's currently in, they keep trying to fiddle with the knobs, pretending that just by shaving some stats here or there from one Hero or another will magically turn things around. What does happen is that the next least challenging character gets swapped into the potato-lineup, so that low-effort cooldowns can be used to get guaranteed value.
THANK YOU!!!!! I've been saying this for years. STOP trying to balance two separate different games from their respective opposite's perspective. It doesn't make sense. At all.

Matt Mahoney to start my comment was clearly referring to when Moira was released. I have a question for you. Do you remember when Ana was the desired pick over Rez ult mercy? If you do then you’d remember that the reason she was preferred was caused if you could aim well not only did she heal for more but she had a powerful buff ult that could make several other ults nigh unstoppable. That is basically the case here with Moira. She heals for more, can damage and heal at the same time, has an escape/movement ability and an ult that can turn a fight with little effort. in what universe is 65hps < 55hps heck at most during her ult Mercy heals for 60hps while Moira’s ult has her healing the team at 140hps and damages the enemy at 70dps. So your statement about mercy giving better heals is wrong especially since I haven’t even gotten into Moira’s biotic orb. I’m not gonna argue the damage front as I’m not a complete idiot that I cant see that the healers built for damage do more damage than Moira. Also not gonna argue against Lucio’s utility since that’s true. If there’s anything mercy has over Moira it’s her Rez and her ability to fly only one of which is always a good thing.
@@mattmahoney4601 Dratspider legit started off his sentence with saying he was talking about when Moira was first realsed here I'll just quote him. "to start my comment was clearly referring to when Moira was released."

Bruh, this is way too real Worst is, I like playing Mercy. I like her style of playing, it can be fun. But I can't do it anymore way I did before. I'm loosing interest, and so save my interest I just had to switch to dps to even have fun. And all those nerfs and buffs are so bad, because nobody at blizzard thinks that majority of their players are casual. Maybe they should give separate stats for others. Like GM should have stronger hanzo and weaker mercy, so best players get punished for making mistakes, but leave casual ones in lower ranks with stronger characters, so when I play it once a week after day of work I can have chaotic fun, with all of the characters being overpowered. Just make them separate or something, so most of customers can get what they paid for.

Overwatch was a chaos management game. Some players didnt get that, they thought that chaos is not a feature of the game, but a griefing by other players. Blizzard "fixed" chaos and deleted the fun from the game.
I played since day one, and I stopped shortly after Doomfist was added. I look at these gameplay clips, and I miss it. I genuinely *miss* Overwatch. But the Overwatch I loved is gone, and I don't think it's coming back.
Doomfist was such a letdown for me and too difficult to use. For me the game died when they removed the no hero limit from quickplay which basically turned it into competative without the ranking system. Especially the forced 2 dps, 2 tanks and 2 support team compositions. That's restricting freedom to play a game how you want. I'm a console player and i quit shortly before moira was released. It's impossible to have a fun casual experience in overwatch anymore.
Basically the same story for me. When Overwatch first came out, I got really invested in it because of the fun gameplay and wanting to know what happens to the characters. Like, as fun of the game itself was, I was also really into the story and trying to figure out where it was headed and how certain characters would eventually interact with each other. But shortly after Doomfist came out I stopped playing because I had gotten sick of how Blizzard had completely given up on continuing the narrative. After Sombra’s cinematic, the only types of story we ever got afterwards was either prequel fluff that had no effect on the present day story or inconsequential stuff that also had no effect on the story. Part of what kept me coming back was the promise of cool storylines and interactions with they already had, not just a never ending cycle of new characters and origin stories. Because of this, I just completely lost interest of the story and characters, and without that the gameplay just became a soulless set of repetitive mechanics.
I played pretty early on, but I had to quit when Moira came out because, for some reason, her being added just killed my FPS (frames/second, not first-person shooter). I've got a new computer since then, but I just haven't had the motivation to go back and play it. It's a shame too because Moira seemed like a lot of fun.
Well, we get updates to the experimental card every couple of weeks. They just don't make to competitive unless. Blizzard thinks it's good after testing it
It was really sad seeing both Seagull and DSPstanky leave the game because they felt there was a complete lack of help from the dev team :( i really loved this game for wayyyy longer than any of my friends did, and i wished more than anything it would make a comeback
Update: Overwatch is in the best state it's ever been in! (and TF2 is trashed from the 90% chance of a half full server to the 50% chance of that game being infested with bots) Update 2: Overwatch's new queuing system is bringing a lot of DPS players back and TF2 has managed to hugely reduce the amount of bots
Tf2’s still alive and kicking though tbh. And ngl I still feel like Overwatch is still a husk of a game despite that it’s in the best state it’s been in for a long while

I understand the current state that the game is in, but I still love this game and I’m going to stay with it. I believe that OW2 might fix the game, but, even if it doesn’t, this game will always be one of my favorites. I’ve had such a blast with it, and, for that, I will pay this game my respects.
@@marcofriio32 Same. Except we learned about it in faith grade (2018) so we would always "play" it in the playground. Then the teachers banned boys from playing on the playground. It was fun while it lasted :)
Yeah, Overwatch 2 might save the whole of Overwatch unless Blizzard will be like: Nahh fuck it just copy and paste the previous game and add a campaign. I hope they dont do that, I hope they use this whole year for something more than just new heroes and a campaign.
From someone who loved Overwatch and played from the start of it, I think the game is just fundamentally flawed. From the characters, map designs, to the core concept of the game. There is a lot of contradictions in what Blizzard wanted to do, like trying to make it competitive but, also accessible to casual players by making characters not needing to aim, or have tracking mechanics, etc. All this does is make it hectic and not fun in both sides, you got pro players saying it appeals to casual, but also casuals saying it appeals too much on competitive. I could go on, but it is a youtube comment so I won't, in short I think the game was destine to fail since the idea of the game. I think the video did not go into enough detail about it which is fine cause honestly we get the idea and we all kinda agree that Overwatch currently sucks. I do enjoy the game and the universe it has, it is truly amazing. It is one of the reasons why I played it as long as I did, but I could not take the game anymore. I stopped playing a little after Doomfist. (wish I quit sooner honestly)
Amen, they need to seriously just get off their high horse and admit balancing for GM and casual players is objectively terrible. Brig is quite literally the worst support this game has ever seen in every single lobby except GM, but instead of listening to the majority of the community telling blizzard to stop nerfing her, they couldn’t stop and even reverted a 25 health buff like it actually suddenly made her some OP character. I say fire the entire balance team except for whoever came up with the ideas to finally made all shotguns have consistent patterns, rework soldiers gun and make Bap’s ult huge

@@FyrestormGaming honestly, when they almost nerfed Moira to the ground I almost quit, nerfed tank and healers and it's irritating, watching Ana,rein, brig, and Moira getting nerfed.
I understand what you’re saying, but no. The average brig player does not make use of her armour packs. They are either dumped into a tank who doesn’t need the armour, or are used on someone taking damage. This nerf effects the higher tiers more than the lower tiers. You also have to take into account, brig still has her stun and her boop, and her ult. calling her useless is an overreaction. Again, her armour pack does not get the value that this nerf makes a difference for he majority of people, this nerf only effects the preloading of your dps, which was only done effectively by the top 1%

While i mostly disagree with this video about the game being dead (though there are some really good points brought up about lack of updates, reused events, and meta) considering the game still retains hundreds of thousands of players daily, im hoping Overwatch 2 will bring something new and re-do the way the dev team handles updates, balance/meta changes, and overall events.
Hundreds of thousands? Where did you get this number. Just curious since I tried playing overwatch again and damn even quick play takes centuries to get a match compared to back when I got into the game.
One of my favourite games and one of the few multiplayer games I actually enjoyed playing is now something I won't even consider buying the sequel for. Role Queue was the nail in the coffin for every bit of fun and experimentation, and it is painful to be stuck on the same 2 healers or tanks with how long DPS queue is.
If the overwatch team cared more about the game itself rather than the money it could make from huge competitive tournaments the game could've been great and kept a nice community. TF2 even through it's horrible phases entertains me way more than Blizzard's latest IP and that makes me really upset. I had high hopes for this game, it's setting and story...they just don't care about anything but esports. This type of game could absolutely be balanced to encourage casual play AND a money making esports tournament game. They just stopped caring OR the investors forced them to comply with strict standards to keep the competitive tournaments flowing with money.

To be fair TF2 has been handled fantastically up until 2015. After that, yeah, but that's still eight years of being handled with utmost care and favoritism. TF2 was the posterchild of Steam for those eight years, having introduced things like the market and Steam trading.
When they turned quickplay into competition-lite, I stopped playing. I had zero interest in navigating menus and setting up filters to create a custom game that was just "what quickplay used to be" Just about every dev was making the same mistake at the time- they all wanted to take a game, made successful by a casual-friendly design, and rework it entirely for the 1% professional competitive players and streamers. And it never worked. "But if they didn't do that, the streaming content would be boring" is what I heard often. But I'm not interested in watching streamers play a game. I'm interested in playing the fucking game myself.
@@crawfish1997 I did not know, because they added it over 2 years after I stopped playing. I was done with Overwatch long ago, and I think I'm happier for it.
@@josephstahl9119 because match quality with no role lock was fucking garbage and made quickplay useless for anyone who actually wanted to play the game.
She should have been removed, she killed the game moreso than Brig for non-pro players. I would take OP Brig or Dive over double barrier. Winston and Reinhardt are the only heroes who should have barriers imo.
I don’t like overwatch it’s repetitive... and the “story” doesn’t do justice to the game... I hope overwatch 2 somehow turns out alright and saves the games
well every game has a finite amount of content. put enough time into sth and it *always* becomes repepetive. but hey, not your game. that's fine, taste is subjective. hope you find sth you like.
The story so far is still the same 2 minute backstory written on the "about" page of overwatch, the game modes for it are just different perspectives to that story
@@captasticts8419 this one? Playing through most of the story in OW, it really didn't expand on anything, not till ow 2 released a trailer what happened after Winston set the call to action
Same here. Year 1 Overwatch was fun because, as the point Clootch made, everyone was strong in their own way and relied much more on the player knowing what they're doing with them, rather than "Oh, this character just works". It was chaotic, everyone was viable, and that's what made it fun even if your team got absolutely stomped. You could have fun no matter what happened in the match.
Remember when you could get 5 friends and all play the same hero for memes Remember when you could play whatever strat you wanted before they capped the amount of characters you could have and basically forced you to play a meta
To be fair, 6 dwarfs on cargo was NOT very fun to play against. I'm agreeing with the main points on the video, but they had to do something against these spam compositions. They were funny for like the first couple of times, but they got annoying pretty fast, when you just want to play a normal round. While I don't know if role restrictions was the right mechanic for that, something had to be done about it.
@@yokoyakamori6589 No they weren't, they were terrible and made for an awful playing experience. Inflexible teammates, stacking heroes are bush league and needed to be corrected.
The fandom is a hit man and games are it’s targets: Pubg: killed by burning to death Fortnite: three bullets shot through its head Overwatch: slit throat Among us: explosion “accident” Team fortress 2: thought to be dead but seemingly making a recovery from a comatose state Minecraft: ripped apart by wild tumblr and Twitter users Fall guys: severe car “accident” Apex: **next target** Halo: MIA
I said this time and time again to everyone I discussed the game to. Yeah guys they took away a hook that is not that easy to land (anymore) that sometimes you can one shot with it and they added a dude that can 1 hit kill you every 6 seconds with the hugest hitbox ever made in the game, and oh wait! if he misses he can just punch you into oblivion shaking your cam everywhere, having 4 reaper shots on his fingers and a jump to go away safely that also gives him shields and like if that wasn't enough, he also has an ult that makes him immediately invulnerable, completely disappear from the map and he can kill any slow moving enemy when landing it, ready to use his entire combo again! What the hell where they thinking lmao.
@@Void6- I understand the reasoning behind it. The core "issue" with the hook was that you had a one-shot ability that really cost you nothing to use. You didn't have to get out of position, you didn't have to hurl yourself into the fray, and you didn't risk your prey fighting back. Doomfist did all of those things. He had a massive hitbox, especially his head, using his one-shot abilities forced him out of position *into* the enemies, and his other abilities locked him into fixed animations which could be easily read by someone competent with a sniper rifle. Still, it was a terrible idea to release Doomfist immediately after "We don't like the idea of one-shot abilities in the game"
@@andrewb378 when roadhog hooks its easy to make masive damage to him. And hes also super open to ana's sleep for example. Or a sombra hack. To me Doomfist is way to mobile for having a 1 shot skill that is also super easy to land due to its massive hitbox. All the big damage dealers on the game are slow, except genji who has to be super skillful and needs to be next to you to one shot you with his combo. Doomfist flies around, ccs you and does big damage. And his kit has almost no cd. You can practically start your combo again once its done. Anyway as it has been said, OW is a dying game because devs balance it taking on account pros and high tier players, doomfist might not be an issue for dps that dont miss shots but in plat and lower is a pain in the ass to play against him, specially when you are a healer and your dps dont care about him or miss all their shots on him. Wish his 1 shot ability got a nerf, or at least a small hitbox, its too easy to land and the reward is too high.
I think the lack of updates isn’t the main problem because of the fact that you could look at games I came for Chris to and they’re coming back while he was like hundreds of thousands of players playing it so I believe there is more to it than just that I believe it’s the way they handled it was different in the fact that they didn’t really let their community truly sprout seeds to make it work
Destiny is known for how attentive Bungie is to the audience. The game was almost dead on arrival and was worked into one of the best shooters on the market. But yes, from it’s broken inception to its glory days, I’ve spent so many beautiful hours in those games.
@@stressedbyamountainofbooks CS:GO has the advantage of being a pure flick shooter. Not a hero shooter. In essence, it is very easy to balance around comp. The problem is when you have a heavy competative game with a heavy casual scene. It makes sense to balance around comp because when a competative strategy trickles down into lower tier plays, it becomes a problem. However, if you focus entirely on comp's enjoyment of a hero game like overwatch then you're eventually going to lose all player focus. Winning doesn't always mean fun for a competative player.
jordan lee It works in csgo because that game has always been marketed and targeted towards a niche competitive audience. It doesn’t work in Overwatch because that game was/is marketed to a broad casual audience.
Powercreep is referring to two things- A. Either solving the problem of balancing by simply giving everyone overpowered and unnecessary abilities. B. Or, newer characters are so much better and more modernized in comparison to older characters, the older characters are either completely ignored or end up getting overbuffed to the point of being way too strong.
That last part is very accurate. With the addition of Echo, why even play Pharah? Echo does multitudes more with more solo pick potential. Rein v Rein battles depend solely on who's Echo knows that turning into Rein is a free team fight.
Sounds like Contest Of Champions. They do both at the same time at some times. They make new champions that are super broken and can sometimes carry you through the whole story mode and event quests. Then they ignore all of the original and older characters unless they’re nerfing them to hell or sometimes buffing them to the point to being broken.
I was aware of basically everything you said in the video and always questioned myself "is it that hard to balance this fucking game?" "why did they do this so late, and then forgot about this other thing?". I'm happy someone made a video like this, gj man. This said, the game is dead for good, wish when OW2 (and here we have to say thank you again to blizz for insulting us with the delay announced at blizzcon) is out the community will come back, and this time they will care about their game.
As a Mercy main -- yep, typical "gamer girl" -- I'm so sad to see this game go to shit. It was so much fun in 2016... so chaotic and yet so awesome. It's a shame that I barely play the game these days but Mercy is just really unbearable.
Try medic in tf2, his playstyle is similar to mercy (minus the mobility). The community is pretty welcoming, and the playerbase is pretty friendly. The average somewhat coordinated uber push is pretty chaotic and downright adrenaline inducing and minus the inconvenience of bots, tf2 is extremely fun
Just try tf2. The medic is much more interesting than mercy. You have endless combinations of weapons/loadout. We all quit tf2 when OW was released but after a couple of years we all went back to tf2...
Honestly I enjoy current Mercy more than release Mercy purely because of her movement bugs. Super jump and slingshotting make her way more dynamic than she was in 2016 but I still don't play the game despite of how much I love Mercy because the rest of the game is just unfun. They keep adding hard cc and balance towards the 1% of players so I'm forced to swap and shit just to win. I want to be able to play any hero in any team comp and have fun. Modern Overwatch is absolutely unbearable.
