Persona 2 has 2 Games: Persona 2 innocent sin and persona 2 eternal punishment. If you're interested in Persona 2 the order is innocent sin before eternal punishment.
agreed. unfortunately & annoyingly, to play both official english versions, IS only PSP-exclusive & EP is PS1 only, also that EP on PS1 quite buggy, iirc easily accessible debug mode which can ruin enjoyment. both versions - IS & EP did have original JP PS1 & PSP releases, just the western releases didn't cover both on same port, IS probably got later attention due to being realized & considered the main story while EP is sort-off alternate story to it, though EP got 1st dip on PS1 due to IS having a more darker tone. 😅
@@boarMcberry I REALLY want some sort of remaster for these games, to be 100% honest. They look fine, but i'd love to be able to play it on modern hardware. I can emulate it, but i'm a physical media shill.
another reminder is that Persona series is actually spin-off & still part of Megami Tensei franchise, albeit understandably being very popular & deems them as separate as to many believe. As for Dragon Quests, continuity-wise, I believe 2nd trilogy 4-6 takes in chronologically before 1st trilogy, & DQ11 secret ending did connect to DQ3 as well. That said, guess general advice still applies: just play whichever order one's like, tho as of my personal addition note: play DQ5 as soonest, since that one is one of the most famous game, being it does inspire its own live-action parody series called Yusha Yoshihiko & even has near direct 3D-animated movie adaptation titled DQ-Your Story (atm available on netflix). Mana series, or Seiken Densetsu, could be treated as spin-offs to Final Fantasy brand, since the original gameboy release did dub it Final Fantasy Adventure, albeit later on proved to be distant far related, probably not even related at all. But one curious note though, the 2nd game - titled overseas as Secret of Mana, is actually branch development with this other game, & was originally planned as a single game, before dev had to split them into 2 titles. That other game is very famously known as Chrono Trigger, which later birthed sequel called Chrono Cross. One can even see design of both protagonist shared similar designs as well. Recalled the split decision was also tied to that ill-fated next gen SNES-cdrom console, where the original plan would've made the game fit onto cd format, but due to the separation (which birthed the infamous new console - Playstation), leads to dev having to split that idea into 2 games since it would be impossible to still try fit them into cartridge storage, Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) & Chrono Trigger. & curiously enough, playstation port did bundled Chrono Trigger with Final Fantasy 6, 2 of SNES juggernaut RPG & rebrand them under Final Fantasy packaging as well. Mind u that CT really don't have any connection with FF @ all, content-wise, though if one want to look for connections, its the stories I've relayed in this whole paragraphs. Also for final note (again lol), there is another Final Fantasy sorta-spinoffs, that's currently stands as its own franchise - SaGa series, which is basically surviving the original FF2 gameplay concept into birthing a new series. Even the original releases of 1st trilogy are even branded overseas as FF Legend 1-3, not to be confused with the actual-separate FF Legend release on mobile which is a total-unrelated games with SaGa. Back to SaGa again, this series also being famous to introduced the genre - hardcore JRPG due to its advanced difficulty compared to general jrpgs, albeit this system is actually very similar (or even perhaps adapted from) with western-style D&D esque rpg lineups. Though I just mention this up as well. ;)
You're a JRPG encyclopedia, damn! Thanks a lot for contributing, i wanted to make a video just to tell people: "hey, start anywhere, have fun" Also, a friend of mine suggested talking about the SaGa series, the only one i've played is SaGa Frontier remastered on Switch and i don't really like the way the leveling up happens, i want to see my level going up. lmao
Man, I really hate when people say Persona is its own thing. Like, if that's the case, then Soul Hackers and Devil Survivor are also not SMT The thing that unites this game are the demons and the fact that they are RPGs, even though the series has multiple different timelines, they just tackle different types of stories and topics, with the core still being SMT
@@SpilledMug I think it's more for simplicity's sake. Yeah, they are ALL SMT spin-offs, but i think it's fine to separate them as like: mainline SMT, Persona, now Metaphor Refantazio. The combat is similar and all, Atlus created combat mechanics that are common to almost all SMT spin-offs, but i can see someone who enjoys Persona not liking SMT and vice-versa, so idk
@@WiiUnabuddy separating them as spin-offs is fine, but outright saying it is "it's own thing" is simply not true, but, yeah, there definitely are people that don't enjoy some of the subseries. Also, btw, Metaphor: Refantazio is it's own thing, it doesn't have any connection to the other games besides the gameplay, I think. I haven't played it, but I don't think that there are any SMT demons or concepts, like the spin-offs have
Oh, for real? I was almost sure they had been shutdown, i was watching another RU-vidr talking about his experience playing it on console and i thought it was awesome. Are there US servers?
@@WiiUnabuddythere are indeed US servers. Sqex no longer supports the console version and several servers have been shut down and folded into other servers, however the game is still playable in NA, JP, and EU regions.
To add what others says, 11 just had another expansion concluded a year ago after 3 years running, titled Voracious Resurgence. That said, outside official servers, there's also alot of private servers albeit each with their own quirks. The most famous one is HorizonXI since many dedicated utubers posted alot of either their gameplay or guides, it's basically a lvl 75-cap era, but with content still tries to update to official contents, but adjusted to match the 75-era. That said again, official server content has their own grinding updated as well, apart from the default level 99 cap, they've been introduced to job mastery grinds somewhere near post-Adoulin expansions, then as of recent - master levels, which only unlocks after job mastery of jobs players focusing on, and as of current - master level are still updating with newer level caps planned. There's also FF14 side with upcoming patch 7.1 (planned released on mid November) introducing new alliance raid permanent-collab with FF11 (as opposed to their previous events only collabs), which will draws in FF14 players to learn about FF11 worlds. Finally, again to reiterate what other says: only the console ports were shutdown, which was around Adoulin expansion around 2012, albeit PS2 JP region did briefly receive Adoulin port. But as of current, FF11 is unfortunately a PC-exclusive port officially.
I'd say you can start anywhere, but Tony Hawk is a franchise that's trying to tell you a bigger story, if i'm being quite honest. It's a rag to riches story, where you start as the underdog Tony Hawk and you make your way to the top, but he becomes too greedy and Bob Burnquist actually becomes the best skateboarder in the world, not to mention the fact that Bam Margera is thrown in there without any explanation, so maybe you should start with the game Skate Boardin' for Atari 2600 if you really wanna understand the timeline and see the franchise in it's infancy.
Is it, though? I played Tatica and it had it's own story and you need to know P5 characters, but in the grand scheme of things it's more or less standalone imo
@@WiiUnabuddy Well Tactica more or less standalone, but again, strikers directly picks up from the ending of persona 5, so the characters will directly reference the original much more than Tactica. Tactica is a much more filler spin-off than strikers is.

Banjo Tooie just came out on Nintendo Online, but if you didn't play it I recommend the original game first because Tooie can be difficult to explore at times.
@@WiiUnabuddy Nut and Bolts is Three, but that wasn't the original intention. Rare wanted to make a game called Banjo Vs Grunty, where Gruntilda controlled by an AI would sabotage Banjo in collecting stuff. However Rare coundn't get the AI to work well, so it was canceled. Nuts and Bolts was made because complete run out of ideas. Right now their working on Everwild.
with trails, it has ALOT of text, so it dos take time, the bigger issue is voice acting, i have played crimson sin to its fullest using fan translation, this isent the hard part, you just have people that insist on english voice acting or they won't buy it, and you have to make sure you don't F up the translation "tio was the deciped of the devine blade of wind" as example when they probebly dident played crossbell and were not sure what it was trying to say "reffering to tio and arios ability to sense stuff" and then you have some name changes for the sake of name changing and some changes to the flow of dialouge.
Tbh, the series is hard enough to get into as it is, so i much rather they give people the option to choose between JP or EN voice acting than just JP. The translation will always be a point of contempt with every hardcore fan of the series, specially since many people have learned Japanese just to be able to play these games and they don't wanna feel like their efforts were in vain, so some people REALLY want to hone it in how bad the translation is. And i get it how NIS America butchers the translation sometimes, but to me it's still better to have it than not having an official release outside Japan and having to rely on fan translations (not because they are bad, but because it's easier for the average person to just see a Trails game on PSN or Steam and buy it there rather than pirating it and downloading a fan translation). Hopefully one day they will overcome the barrier and give us remasters of the old games like Square Enix did with FF 1 - 6. I know it's a lot to ask for, but that would be ideal for newcomers, i think.
I think it's important to note that the second Persona game is actually two games: Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Also SMT2 never got a US release
Wish i could help you, but i've never played the franchise to know if it's story heavy or not. Some games are "sequels" but, in my opinion, they are more or less standalone, like Suikoden 1 and 2. But that's just my opinion, some people really don't wanna miss one single line of dialogue from a previous game, if that's the case for you then i'd recommend always playing the first game.
An idea for if Atlus makes a Q3 for switch is choose what cast you want to start out with including the cast from 1 and 2 and metis adachi or Sho and Kasumi is bonus characters probably DLC
Dark Souls 1 is connected with Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2 is beyond these two stories, Elden ring and Sekiro isnt connected, also Demon's souls for PS3 or Remake on PS5 isnt connected too
I mean, i guess you're correct about the Dark Souls games, but all the soulsborne games are more about the gameplay, if we're being 100% honest. As i've mentioned, Dark Souls 2 has a few connections to 1 as well, people really go crazy with the lore because it's interesting to some people to read item's descriptions, but in reality i still feel like most people won't feel lost at all if they choose to start with whichever game they want.
I'll have to disagree with you here. Kojima wanted a more natural approach to story-telling instead of doing what he always did - 1 hour cutscenes in between missions -, but that doesn't mean the story is non existent. Imagine going into MGS V without knowing anything about Revolver Ocelot, Les Infant Terrible, Outer Heaven or the Patriots... Like, i'm not even talking about all the audio logs doing the heavy lifting for the story, but why would you care about Ocelot or Miller if you haven't played any of the games and don't even know what Big Boss did in MGS 3 (or the future his actions created later on, as we get to see with MGS 2 and 4). I'm not someone who's blinded by nostalgia with the games, i only played them back in 2019 or 2020, but i can 100% say that people should not jump straight ahead to 5, the lore in MGS is truly something special imo. I
in MGSV you play Venom Snake not big boss, Venom Snake was big bosses right has man, and was used for the job because hes good enough to fake being big boss. we dont know his real name as far as i know. he only looks like big boss because of surgery. i dont think this is a spoiler.
& kinda spoilery alert - MGS5 will directly continues to 1st MG game, as in the original MSX version, or NES port too I guess, albeit NES port could be considered non canon to MG series.
