One of the most helpful things I have heard lately in relation to FFXIV is, "With many MMORPGs players will say the game doesn't really start until the end game, but with FFXIV, the game starts when you create your character." That is so true, the story brings you in at the beginning.

I remember somewhere, Yoshi-p said that XIV is a game thats meant to be mindful of the work-balance lifestyle. Its a game that encourages people to take their time with the game and take breaks if people feel overwhelmed.

When I first started in crafting I was like _"I'm going to craft one of each of these as I level up!"_ Yeah that didn't last too long. 😆

My favourite example of the sheer amount of care and love put in this game is the fact that NCPs will remember you specifically for what you did that they know of. My favourite example is how in the quest to unlock the Sunken Temple of Qarn (hard) you talk to a random Brugaire consortium employee, who was at Deep Canyon's trial in the lvl 50 Miner's quest, and will remember you as the one who brought in the darksteel ore on that day if you cleared the quest before

Remembering to take my time while playing this game has been so helpful for me, I’m still in Heavensward at 300 hours but I’m enjoying levelling tons of classes and spending days in the Gold Saucer without feeling like I’m wasting my time

I'm totally agree with everything you said. Basically "It's about the journey, not the destination". FF 14 is one of few mmo that can make me say that. Bcus most of other MMO nowadays are just a race to level cap, better gears, and to be strongest player. But FF 14 is not like that at all. Players should enjoy the content exploration and the learning process

I love the item descriptions. So many throwaway items that are only in one part of the game (like Firmament/Diadem) have descriptions that made me laugh out loud for no reason. And the localization team deserves the world for the amount of pop culture references, both well-known and obscure that they put in everywhere.

I made the unfortunate mistake of skipping cutscenes because in my head it was about getting to the end. I ended up not feeling the connection to the story because of it. One day I found a reddit post about one of the darker stories regarding a group of adventurers who ended up losing their tank and it culminated into Tam-Tara Hard. I went back and watched as everything unfolded and found myself enthralled. Now I'll be doing New Game + and look forward to seeing and being a part of everything again.

I felt this, I just started playing after trying WoW and just finished the ARR storyline and I'm moving onto the Heavensward content, I couldn't imagine skipping and not understanding everything that I just played through.

been playing lately with three friends, i'm totally new to mmo's, ff, the whole package. but i have so much love for slow, very densely packed games like baldur's gate, so i have no trouble taking my time and just making my journey through as enjoyable and as slow as i like! :D i'll be the first one to say that i primarily play for story and atmosphere and to have fun, not to blast through and do all the hard content ASAP. my one friend is totally that 'rush rush go go go gotta get to complex high level stuff'. we had to convince her (im also playing with an old wow player and someone who's made an alt to hang with us and guide us through but who's normal character is high level) just to actually pay attention to the ARR story, and namely also let me finish lol. i'm SO slow in that one friend's eyes, because i'm reading through dialogue and letting voice lines on auto play out, pausing to think about things. thankfully my other friends are very happy to stick up for me and say: "no he can take as much time as he wants! stop going into dungeons when he's in the middle of cut scenes to get him to skip" lmao. go figure on her alt she actually paid attention to story and said "wow this is actually pretty good huh!" that sense of wonder has really made my time early game so fun. i'm patient and i like fetch-questy stuff, and i'm having fun exploring around as i like. don't get a small thing? i'll figure it out later! but i'm learning stuff and having a blast, i'm having fun with my character and developing him too. it's so nice, enjoying a story that i'm already in love with! (sadly i'm quite heavily spoiled, but that hasn't stopped me from loving it 🥰) totally helps that my chosen server faerie has been so casual and friendly. i'm still anxious to play with strangers and mess up, but that'll pass soon i hope!

The most overwhelming part of the game is reactivating your account after taking a break.

I get overwhelmed in trials, even after prepping with a walk through. There’s so much going on everywhere and I feel really bad when I die so often.

for me it’s learning summoner, unlike black mage where your rotation builds nicely and eventually makes sense it goes from “oh ok i think i get it” to “wtf is this”

Also: you don't need to do everything. If you feel that a type of content isn't fun for you, you can just ignore it. I know that Savage isn't for me, and that Bozja isn't fun so I just pass on it

My GF has been playing the game from the beginning. We've been together for almost three years now, and I've finally made an account. The selling point was you can really play the flute or whatever as a bard. I'm really looking forward to all the awesome story plot points, as she hasn't spoiled them for me 😁

I like to think of it like this: The game is a library, full of books on a whole host of topics. I don’t have to read every book in every topic or subtopic. But when I’m ready to get to it, I’ll know that there are a lot of new books for me to read, a lot of new experiences for me to engage if/when I’m ready.

I've been playing 14 and for almost 5 years. And I'm still overwhelmed especially with all the new stuff that's coming out with the patches but I'm still stuck leveling all my jobs up to 80 cuz you know I want to be that full all-rounder plus I want the amaro mount. Even if I buy potions that still 10 levels I have to go from. Plus there are days where I just don't want to login.

the overwhelming part only hit me when i got my last job to lvl 80, all of my immediate goals were met and i was faces with so many options of what to do next and it paralysed me

I recently leveled a second character to level 80. Overwhelmed at hitting level 80 then feeling a sense of awe at the sheer scope of what the developers have created was definitely a part of my experience.

Been in the game almost a year and I am still overwhelmed when I log in. Lmao

My brain is still trying to comprehend all of this game. Started 3 weeks ago and already have 160hrs of playtime with no end in sight. Semi overwhelming but really enjoyable that there’s a lot to do!

I really enjoy the pacing of this game. I never felt the need to rush. I love taking my time since I feel that in both an MMO and RPG. And my RPG logic is to take my time enjoying things :)

I stopped by Gridania as I was leveling up Archer and I saw a Bard standing on the fence in the plaza and he was playing music with a crowd of people watching. I stopped and listened for about 15 minutes. It was so immersive! The fact that spontaneous events like that can pop up and to know that player had to put in work to make that music was just such a beautiful experience. I'm a music major myself, so it just made me even more motivated to unlock Bard so I can be one of those people too :)

ive started a botanist recently and there is so much depth in just collecting plants and bushes in diadem, once i get it to 80 and level a crafter i cant imagine what it will be like i got myself a glam to pick up stuff and i feel so nice doing it, feels like a different game at times

I can say that I am getting back into FFXIV after being away for a year (and being locked out of my WHM, long story) and decided to do a Lancer and see how that goes. So far, so fun. I’m actually enjoying learning mechanics all over again and re-experiencing the ARR story. And who doesn’t love reporting to the Waking Sands every 10 seconds?

I think a lot of people fail to look at this game as a Final Fantasy game. They're long, well thought out, story-driven games for you to soak up all the lore, care and attention to detail that they give. This game is no different. It has the MMO title strapped to it, but there's no need to rush. SOAK IT UP! The game is gorgeous and glorious. And I've only been playing for 4 months!

It's like you read my mind! I've started to level my crafters this week (specifically culinarian right now) and seeing a lot of those recipes made me go T^T. Definitely taking my time and enjoying the ride!

THANK YOU for posting this! I started in September of last year, and even though I have 4 level 80's combat-wise I still find myself overwhelmed by content and the things left to do, and ofc still terminology as I try to raid to collect mounts.

You just gotta keep trying and keep on learning! My first Extreme trial made me overwhelmed as well, but the more we failed the more we learned and eventually where able to clear it! Just don't get me started on when I was a complete noob.. I took me some time to realize what glamours where. before that I would mostly set up a seperate gear set' that was called ''casual clothing'' and then switch to it when I was not in dungeons. So most of the time I would accidently queue up for dungeons with my 'casual clothes' glamour set on and then I wouldn't even realize that I hadn't even equipped my appropriatie class gear until people pointed out that my HP was pretty low for my current level.. AKWARD..

I just recently finished 5.4, and I’m still in awe at how much I still get to do! I’ve been working on Bozja, my relic weapons, getting more classes to 80, trying harder fights, getting mounts, and trying out crafting and gathering with beast tribes! It’s all so much fun and such an interesting journey

Excellent advice! And I know what she means here, there's so much that I haven't done and I've been playing for a few years now. You can always find more to do but you don't have to try and do it all at once.

Me and my best friend JUST finished ARR last night and we're trying to get into the first expac, and it does feel like there is so much to do and so many things I've yet to learn. I myself have only now learned my Red Mage melee rotation after just spamming Zwercchau on things until my bars were empty. I am so in love with the story and characters that it's a blast to play, but there are still so many systems I've yet to grasp. I'll learn them in time though, as you said, and it's really cool to figure stuff out.

Sometimes new players get overwhelmed because they play with experienced players all the time who are always aggressive so they think they need to quickly go above and beyond lol

I was intimidated by tanking my entire ff14 career (partially out of worry of failing teammates, partially out of hating responsibility after growing up as the third parent oldest child) , having started playing in the ARR beta. Finally started tanking around the 5.4 release and am so happy to have finally done so, didn't know what I was missing out on. Been dodging healing for similar reasons and might pick it up if sage is fun.

I did catch up with my buddies but I felt like I couldn't appreciate anything as much as they did. So I'm starting over. I'm taking my time and enjoying eorzea for what it is. I want to experience this how everyone else from the beginning has and I don't care how long it takes. Can't wait to see all the dungeons and experience every little detail that was skipped. Since some time now i've been struggeling with beeing overwelmed on a daily basis, so while playing FFXIV i'm trully enjoying taking things slow and enjoying all the aspects of the game and still discovering new parts. It kind of makes me forget all the struggles I got through and that makes me happy.

I just recently finished the ARR patch quests and am now making my way through Heavensward. I absolutely love exploring all of the new maps and by now the Primae are getting some more compliacted mechanics, which makes those fights a lot of fun!!

When it comes to accessible content, it's not just an ice berg, it's an Arctic shelf.

I usually find myself trying to find something that isn't repetitive. You get to 80 and finish the story then you are just doing dailies over and over. Doing the typical gear grind until the next content drop. Crafting is.. crafting. Unless you are just into it, then it is kinda dull. Most people don't end up in savage content. Finding a static is a pain and can make a fun game feel like a job. Love FFXIV, I always end up coming back. I just have the opposite experience from Zepla. Login, do dailies, log out. That's mostly what I see from people.

when you mentioned culinarian i had flashbacks of the days i made anchovie pizzas and stews in runescape and i have severe ptsd on anything that requires 5-6 items to make (except armor which is usually a 1 time craft) because if i'll need 200 of it to keep consuming, it will just feed my hoarding problem for 'i might need this material later' and then all my inventories will forever be full and i'll never get anywhere.

I love how much there is too do because I do not always feeling like fighting I just work on crafting which helps me stay in the game.

Imagine using those skip things then complaining that you dont understand anything..... xD big brain move.

Alliance raids and Eureka are just enough difficulty to be fun and engaging, while still having plenty of unique glam rewards Personally I think the scripted boss fights in savage feels too much like 8 player simon-says, and as I don't like memorization games it's not really my style of content, but I'm glad that there's so many other "endgame" activities to work towards and be an expert at outside of raiding

Been playing for close to a year now and am getting closer to ShB now with PLD but some days I just want to go fishing and do just that or go play games at the gld saucer or just kill and work on my hunt log. Saving some storylines like DRK Knight for when I'm caught up. It's just fun to go do what I want at my own pace
