oh how I wish I was one of those 675 000 people in the crowd. I have the blu-ray of this show and it's mindblowing. This was the first song I song of Sabaton many many many moons ago and I'm hooked ever since. BTW this Woodstock was a charity festival in Poland. You should check uprising from the same show as well
@@MrRockNRollLive It was a great Denver show. Delain, Sabaton and Nightwish. 2015. Apparently, that's the tour where Floor & Sabaton's drummer fell in love with each other. Now, they're married, and parents.🤘
@@MrRockNRollLive I saw them in Houston on that tour. Had no idea who they were before. The crowd was absolutely crazy for them. Downloaded everything they had on Spotify after the concert. Easily in my top 5 favorite bands right now.
I still say that one of the single best Sabaton songs they do live is "Resist and Bite", a song about the Chasseurs Ardennais and their defense of Belgium against the Nazi invasion. Such a high paced and high energy song.
This is from Woodstock Poland, a festival that has another name now. Also it's a little known fact that the germans had a bad time of it in the early part of the Poland campaign. But then the russians came in 2 weeks later than they promised and it was all over. Rather than being impressed with themselves, the whermacht went into reorganization and retraining and the result you can hear in Ghost Division from the same concert. :-D
But in the battle of Wizna you can clearly see how difficult it is to cross a river (they destroyed the bridges) under fire and pressure. Later seen when American forces tried to cross the Rhein and all bridges were destroyed. And to this day (and in the last 2000+ years) warfare with foot troops, where you need to cross moving water is probably the most difficult battle there is.
@@Ri_Shin_Marco It would have been worse if the bridge at Remaghen had been completely destroyed, but in the end they would have gotten through regardless. The defense must be strong everywhere...
@@luisnunes2010 That is obviously right. But it was a last attempt to stop the enemy forces from the west. But let's be honest. In March 1945 Germany didn't had any resources left in everything and lost position after position in the west and in the east.
@@Ri_Shin_Marco Remember their resource problem goes back before the war starts. Taking on a naval power without a fleet when you can't reach them overland has always been hopeless. Also because of Versailles, they lacked reservists to expand their army and even the victories of barbarossa were almost too much. See prof. Citino lectures on youtube if you haven't already. Good stuff.
@@luisnunes2010 Well, your right! With only the north and east sea their operation points are limited. (they had ports in Italy and Spain but well let's not speak about it :D ) Despite that I would say their naval power rose to a power to be feared. And getting the US directly involved, I would say wasn't their plan to begin with.... But their you can add up all the errors Germany made in WWII and they add up a lot (like changing their target from the British Air Forces to London is in my eyes one of the biggest mistakes on the west front). But all in all Germany is lucky how it ended, because if the war would have been going on for a bit longer the first nuke strike wouldn't have been Nagasaki and Hiroshima but Mannheim and other targets in Germany. And I'm glad it ended where it ended (with the US joining), because I won't imagine what Germany/Hitler would have done if they invented the atom bomb. But that's theory and past our time.
I've been following your reactions for a couple weeks now and I love the way you seem to be enjoying yourself, mate. This was my first ever Sabaton song and I had the chance to see them live here in Brazil twice now. They're great as both musicians and entertainers. Cheers, mate!
5:20- 5:30 - In a span of 10 seconds you went from “ this isn’t appropriate for a rock concert” to “proper respect for the fallen is being paid here” - love it 😊
i remember them putting this on their history channel and them saying that if they tour Poland they'll get lynched if this song isn't played - shows how much it means to the Poles and how much they're appreciated just for this 1 song alone. The song is more than just a song. Might want to get a hold of their heroes album, each song is a story about a hero funnily enough and the reaction to each song will be intreguing
Sabaton is my absolute favorite band, man. I feel compelled to let you know, in case you didn't already know, Sabaton is going to be touring North America with fellow swedish band Hammerfall in late September through most of October. You should google the dates, see if there is a show near you! They are incredible live, trust me. They are not a band to miss! I have seen them at least 5 or 6 times at this point and they are always incredible and SUPER fun, especially since Joakim (the vocalist) is hilarious.
This was a completely NUTS show that Sabaton did at Woodstock in 2012 before 500,000 fans. They literally turned the crowd into one huge mosh-pit. That was the Polish flag that they draped the crowd close to the stage with, seemed like a good idea for the 40:1 song!! If you want to see the Polish version of the AC/DC River Plate concert (jumping and total madness) then do Primo Victoria (D-Day) (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aclekg9DZFI.html) from this concert, get ready to rumble and I mean rumble. This is the 80th anniversary of the start of WW II so kind of appropriate. Sabaton is a very important band to me and the messages about the people and sacrifices that were made, many forgotten but not to them. A battle here the Polish people will never forget. I will affirm that Sabaton will teach your more history than any book ever will, and entertain you while doing it because it is about the people involved not the event itself. Great reaction and thank you for doing this song. BTW to drive you completely nuts, guess who toured together a few years back....Yes ....Sabaton and Nightwish TOGETHER!!!!! how is that for a show to have tickets to???
Im from POLAND... My grandfather told me when Germans came they wanted his horse, he told them he need him to live on a farm, they poot him against the wall of a barn and let him choose, horse or his life and his family...Im alive ...and i love my Country. Poland sufferd so much becouse of wars but we are still here, still standing... Eweryone is talking Poland is bad, we dont want imigrants this days... Germany, France and other countries are paying for being stupid, we are not naive and UN can suck it.
Awesome reaction! 🤘 The band members almost lost their lives a couple of days ago. They were returning from a video shoot when a car ran into their van. Luckily there were 2 ambulances nearby. They are all bruised but ok.
In 1939, in the vicinity of Wizna, there was one of the points of the Polish defensive line based on the Narew River. The Wizna resistance point was formed by the unfinished (modernized) line of fortifications since the spring of 1939, stretching over several kilometers, and this was the main reason why the Germans broke through, the fortifications were unfinished. Forces: Poland: approximately 20 officers and 350 to 700 soldiers. Germany: approx. 42 thousand soldiers, 350 tanks, 657 mortars, guns and grenade launchers, Luftwaffe air support. The exact losses of Poles are unknown. Little is known about prisoners taken by the German army. It is estimated that most of the Polish soldiers died in action, 40 managed to withdraw from the fighting area and the same number were taken prisoner. However, the above data are not verifiable. According to German reports, a dozen or so Polish soldiers were killed, and over 90 were taken prisoner, 10 German soldiers were killed, and several dozen were wounded. The exact losses of the Germans are also unknown. In his diary, General Heinz Guderian underestimated the number of German soldiers killed in action. It is only certain that the Wehrmacht lost at least 10 tanks and a few combat vehicles in the struggle.
I know it's not been pointed out, so I'll do it. The name is pronounced 'SabatON. Like something ON a table. You're a smart guy and I know things like that matter to you. Thank you for you reactions, I really enjoy them.
Looks like you've been missing out on a lot of the great parts from Sabaton. I've been to one of their shows and was blown away by every single bit of it. You gotta do Carolus Rex and Ghost Division some time soon.
You should check out Sabaton History-channel's episode on 40:1. It covers both the history behind the song as well as the band's perspective on how it's been received, especially in Poland. As for more songs from them, Ghost Division is a must, as well as Lion From the North and Soldier of 3 Armies.
Croatian battle, defending Vukovar vs. Serbian paramilitary forces, regular forces, JNA (Yugoslav Peoples Army): 1800 up to 2000 max. Croatian vs. 30 000 Serbian forces. They held up fo 3 months (August to November 1991.) At the end of the battle, there were 80 000 Serbian forces and up to 6 700 Croatian with suburbs of the Vukovar. Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine! Et lux perpetua luceat eis! Requiescant in pace! Za dom!
What a shame it's a version with cutout anthem of Poland at the end of song. If You were overwhelmed just by song, imagine a hundreds of thousands throats singing an anthem of their country with pride and joy in their hearts. Imagine that passion. That was overwhelming
if you wanna hear the same crowd go absolutely insane i recommend checking out "uprising" from the same show. its a song about the warsaw uprising during ww2, performed in warsaw, in front of a few 100.000 crazy polish fans. its epic. the only thing that beats it imo is hearing them play "en livstid i krig" (a lifetime of war) in front of a swedish crowd. but im very biased since im swedish
Mr. Rock N Roll let me put this into a perspective... do you think you would be willing and more important able to kill 40 people before get killed to protect your homeland ? Love to Sabaton for promoting our history!!!
-Hi. So I want to order a polish flag. -Ok, that's fine. How big do you want it. -Oh i don't know. How about 5 football courts? Can you have it done by next week? -...
@@MrRockNRollLive the funny thing is that flag can be made next week .... and yes there is a Polish company that specialize in this type giant flags and banners
The craziest part is after this song, the crowd broke out singing the Polish National Anthem. To say that the Polish love their country is an understatement.
They have to be, considering what they’ve gone through. What other nation was carved up for nearly 2 centuries then knew exactly how to handle themselves when they did pop back into existence?
I saw that part in a documentary clip someone sent me about Sabaton, and it's frigging awesome seeing tens of thousands of people singing their anthem all in perfect unison. And it wasn't something that was organised, it just spontaneously happened - if you watch it you can see the surprise on Joakim's face, and then his expression changes to 'Goddamn that's cool!' It's rare for performers to react that way to audiences, and it was as awesome as the crowd's singing. I don't speak Polish but I know the translation for the first two lines for the Polish national anthem, and that just made the crowd's singing even more awesome - "Poland is not yet dead, Not while I yet live!"
Now it is time for Winged Hussars! Here the Poles held off 40,000 Germans for three days. Winged Hussars tells the story of the Polish Heavy Cavalry arriving to Vienna, when the city was on the verge of falling to the Ottoman Turks, and routing the entire Ottoman Army and saving Vienna and a greater part of Europe from Ottoman control. Honestly I never respected exactly what the Poles have done in history, until I started listening to Sabaton. Then I started to research more and am very glad I did. Poland is vastly underated for their impact on Europe. Also, you should listen and react to all of Sabaton songs but The Last Stand, The Last Battle, Winged Hussars, Carolus Rex, The Lion from the North, Sparta, and the Lost Battalion are required listening for Sabaton.
Imagine being a fan of Sabaton and going to one of their shows for the first time then they play a song they made in honor of your country and before you know it your dancing your ass off under a huge god damn flag of your country as well... Think i would have a freaking heart attack
THIS is why I find camraderie with the Polish: Because, like the soldiers at Bastogne, they held out against superior German forces -- and won glory for their homeland!
But all that sleepy sapaton is true, in our history there are still a few such battles, 1683-1699 battle of Breeding 400 Polish knights against 40,000 Turks Tatars chances like 1: 100, and we won this battle.
@@rafacaek4699 The Poles, principally in WW2, were swept under the rug for propaganda purposes, but you were one of the nations that resisted the Nazi advance the most
@@apossiblyhereticalalphaleg3595 As one listens to Sabaton more and more you start to understand why Hitler invaded Poland first...Hitler must have known his Polish history.
Chicago - Warszawa !!! The Same ethnicity, the same god, the same blood... Bless those Poles that build a conscious, honest and proud part of America ! Poland always fight for Freedom and Respect of all nations !!! Love Your reaction Man !
never understand polish mind if not live here min 6 months:) after this time u be live Poland polish ppl and stay here:) short... im rdy give my life evry time for POLAND, have good day
Hearts of Iron is a pretty epic song from Sabaton, about a German general saving civilians and soldiers in the last days of the war. You should try it out if you find time :)
I second this statement. It is a great and haunting piece from Sabaton and tells a generally forgotten, sometimes intentionally so by certain sectors, of how the German Army and even some SS were filled with normal people fighting for their country and in the end doing everything and giving everything to save their fellow countrymen from a fate considered worse than death, being at the tender mercy of the USSR.
@@jordinagel1184 Paradox and Sabaton have a very interesting connection 4 Sabaton songs, Carolus Rex, Lion from the North, Poltava and Long Live the King if memory serves, are in the EU4 music packs
You should watch more performance from Woodstock Poland Festival. We had many great bands on this festival ( now it's called Pol'and'Rock Festival). Great audience, great people and music. And If u want go to - just go! The most beautiful festival in the world. So peacefull, so friendly.
I have to say one thing. European heavy metal scene was so underestimated by US metal fans. I'm so excited to see bands from Europe leaving you speachless!!!
From China i love Mysterain. From Thailand the Melodius Deite. From Japan Minstrelix-Ark Storm-Versailles-Liv Moon-Dir n Grey and many many more. Now i'll focus on Corean bands. Perhaps i can find some good stuff there too (for my taste). Anything else you have to tell me? perhaps you can educate someone else. Not me. 35 years on metal i was able to discover more bands than many people together here. And i did it without the help of youtube dude. Just because metal is my life.
@@MatthewP-Gr of course it's all a matter of taste but: Wagakki Band, Nocturnal Bloodlust, Yousei Teikoku, exist†trace , Mary's Blood, DAZZLE VISION, Cross Vein, Deluhi, Rampant, lynch, Jyluka, G∀LMET and so on ..
Wow what a timing. I'm listening to Wagakki Band at this moment! Just finished the Machiya, Asa, Wasabi, Kurona and Beni join and i'm listening to 「Ikusa」.. The bands are thousands. Impossible even if you try some songs only.... Astral Dogma from Yousei Teikoku also impressed me. Omg.. to many dude. to many..
You need to listen to Beast in Black - Blind and Frozen and Die by the Blade! Amazing power metal band with a singer who got INSANE range with his voice!
Shoutout to the brave Poles who flew with the Royal Air Force, stuck it to the Nazis, and settled in Britain after the war. There are still many towns and cities with Polish communities. 🇬🇧🤝 🇵🇱
If you haven't heard it, look up Aces in Exile. It's the Sabaton song about the Polish and other foreign volunteers who flew for the RAF during the battle of Britain. Fantastic song.
