Most people dunno about Sharpville Massacre Some don't even know that Chris Hani Lived in Vanderbjilpark when he was assassinated right in the heart of a white dominated Area in apartheid.
Mr. Mashabela please consider having Mama Letta Mbulu on your podcast. She is turning 80 years in September and she has had a very lengthy career. There is a lot we could learn from her. Please consider this.
Best proposal ever. She is so legendary. Also in the line up can He please advice bo Mama Bulah hash, those three women who use to be back vocalist for great musical groups and musician. No one has ever interview soemeone in the backup vocalist. Yet is such a great contribution to grwat music
Ntate Sawasawane is in the house.A bag full of memories ka die timer. Thank you David for paying homage while he still is alive. Podcasts are the future. ❤
Ntate Sejake you are my hero. Funny how South Africans, most of whom were facing Hipos and Caspers in the 80s, suddenly believe that they were liberated by people who were in Lusaka. History is written by winners. I'm born and bred in Soweto but have always known Daveyton (D - Town) to be the Mecca of the performing Arts. People like bo bra Small Ndaba, Johnny Mekoa, Ray Phiri, Seipati Sothoane and even most of the "Jim comes to Joburgs" first landed in Daveyton. Salut!
You can see this man in in performing arts for the love of it. The way he still remembers lines like he was given a script just before this interview. These were true performers. I hated his role on Masakeng because us as the audience we always vouch for the good guy and not the bad guy. He nailed that role so well you'd think what you were watching was real. He's always nailing all roles he plays. I always know a show he is going to be fire when he's in it irrespective of the role he's given. He embodies art. Such talent is rare nowadays. This interview was not only entertaining but quite educational too.
First saw him on Masekeng as Ntate Sawasawane.
My favorite old gent of all times! How I wish to see more of his appearances on TV. Feel like his got so much to offer! Simply the Best, Tsotsi taal is him and there was also the late Patrick Shai 🙏
1hr27mins from that point... You can't not shed a tear. Thanks Baba for the pure honest conversation. Thanks King David you have opened a world to us we didn't know our artists have gone through.
Ke ngwana wa Wattville Benoni, and i only discovered the history of Etwatwa (fully) about 2 months ago. He's right, it was a very interesting place because it sounds like race, age, class etc didn't matter there. It's quite interesting because I know a lot about Indians, their different religions and cultures due to the fact that Actonville & Wattville are basically 1 huge township split by a rail road That said, i looooove Ntate Owen. He's just as animated as i know him to be. He is always generous in spirit and shares jokes, a smile, stories etc easily. I guess it must run in his family too, because i remember that his brother Ntate Buti was just as nice and a great friend to my a lot of my family members. I truly respect him
@David Mashabela I wouldn't mind to spend the whole day listening to this taima talking and educating me. I feel like he's got a lot to offer, I'm from Tsakane and would like to know about the forced removals
We thank ntate Sejake for his true story. The Methodist church was removed long ago to a place called Vergenoeg the Cremery closed in 2012. Bokomo still stands. I can send him pictures if he needs them for his memories. Thank you.
Just when he recites lines as Brutus, he could have done a better job than Russell Crowe in Gladiator. New found respect for Bab' Owen Sejake, ek vat jou nou met 'n one two combination soos daai mbomla oulady van jou😂😂, Hijack Stories, that's when I took first notice of him oblivious to his rich work prior🎉
What Ntate Sejake is saying about Etwatwa is similar to stories I've heard about Marabstad & Lady Selborne. There are many townships that had such misfortunes
I discovered this channel 4 days ago and I see all my childhood heroes. You've covered all of them, I liked this tymer blind blind blind when I was young, I would be hooked on screen to listen to his taal. As I was a little boy, it was a sophisticated language that I was interested in so much. Thank you David for bringing Ntate Owen 'Sawasawane' Sejake.
This guy he has so muvh knowledge he could be an assert In Black community ;history acting He could motivate young genetatiion .Le lahle u ya jola;suga mamz useless shows we need yo rebuilding as Africans.
Great insightful interview bra Dee...could u plz also consider the guys behind the scenes, specifically that producer/Director/writer Phathu Makwarela🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
HAI SUKA MANNNN ntate Owen reciting lines from the 80s like his reading a script🙌🙌🙌🙌nkare ka sharp flyt , I hope all these current "actors n ACTRESSES" take a page from these icons n PRODUCERS MUST STOP taking influencers n putting them on our screens😡😡😡😡. We seriously last had actors n actresses 20yrs ago 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Bra Owen Sejake, Bra Gibbs from yizo yizo, Papa G from isidingo, Ntante Patrick Shai these are the masters of tsotsi taal👌 by the way is Bra Gibbs still alive?
I remember the nunnery building at Wits during Fees Must Fall 2015 the police shot the Pastor of that church on the eye 😤. The so-called Catholic SA leaders never condemned the police for their action, the nunnery building gave us protection. Young Black and proud.
People like him should be called by schools to explain Shakespeare to us. I bet I would read all my Shakespeare part of literature differently and he would have made more interesting for one to dig into it.
Different place. Current day Etwatwa is in Daveyton and I think it later came as an extension to Daveyton. The one he's talking about is now Actonville. My late dad and his family used to live there as well and were moved to Daveyton. They knew Mr Owen.
But the people who stayed Etwatwa moved to witteville in Benoni and continued in the shacks as twatwa there's a high school even now called twatwa... But they forcely moved them in the 80's to the last part of Daveyton with their shacks and they called it ETwatwa which is still around but has lot of sections
