Owl City- Cinematic (TRACK PREVIEWS 2017) 

How did he manage to write an album that echoes his work even all the way back to stuff like Of June and Sky Sailing? And he made it sound so much the same but so strangely fresh and I just love it. I'm a 19 yo dude but this makes me feel like a screaming preteen fangirl. I love this so flippidy freakin much.

Yooooo Lucid Dream is the stuff I feel like this song in general is his nod towards that innocent, dreamy attitude and stage he went through in 2008-2010, when he wrote Ocean Eyes and ATBB. I love it so much.

I'm crying this is the album we've needed thank you so much Adam. Please keep writing personal stuff, it clearly comes out so fucking well.

Aside from the out-of-place "All My Friends", he seems to finally be returning to the whimsical, idiosyncratic electronica sound of Ocean Eyes and All Things Bright and Beautiful. But adding the pop sensibilities of the past couple of albums. I think this is a nice compromise. It sounds like an evolution of the first two albums, with the poppiness of his last two albums. I've been disillusioned with Owl City since The Midsummer Station, which wasn't all bad ("Good Time", "Dementia", "I'm Coming After You", and "Metropolis" were the highlights), but he mostly abandoned his creative, dreamy lyrics and sound for a mainstream, generic EDM pop sound. But ever since his movie score side project, he seems to finally be exercising some creativity in his music again. Especially lyrically. Lyrically and musically, these songs finally sound like Owl City again. I'm happy, and for the first time in years, I'm eagerly anticipating an Owl City album. But seriously, fuck "All My Friends". But the rest is such an improvement, I'll forgive it. The dreamy synths and abstract, whimsical lyrics are back, so that's all I really ask for from an Owl City record.

He's definitely going back to his roots. I'm loving it.

I was so scared they would all follow the style of "All My Friends", when I hear the snippets from these other tracks I'm overwhelmed by how good they are!! Edit: The alternate version is actually not bad!

This brings me back to when I was in juvenile detention. I was a horrible, disrespectful child. I regret everything I said and did to my friends, family, most importantly my parents. When I was in a placement center, I listened to old Owl City albums when I could. His beautiful music kept my spirits up when my times were darkest. This brings tears to my eyes, a mix of happy, sad, and hope. Hope that my future will be bright, that I might be able to put my past to rest. Thank you, Adam Young, for everything you have given me.

My favorite song is Cinematic, gosh the synths are awesome and has a catchy chorus.

These previews make me happy and I'm looking forward for the new album. All my friends was a disappointment, but I'm relieved to hear the rest of these songs. I can already tell Winners Never Quit, and Cloud nine are going to be my favorites. So happy that Adams making dreamy whimsical music again.

I'm actually crying this is everything I've been hoping wishing and dreaming for. And I love that it's an evolved sound, not exactly ocean eyes of his sky sailing sound. But it's definitely a throwback. I love it I love it I love it.

Finally, an album titled after a single on said album. Always looking forward to new Owl City. Been a fan since the beginning and i was grateful enough to have met Adam in person. What a surreal moment. He is exactly who i hoped he would be, humble and down to earth. Cinematic will be another one for the books. Cant wait. #tablecloth

The direction of my music taste had gone downhill since his last album release. I miss you, Owl City.

I think one of the things from listening to these songs is that they actually have really good meaning within the lyrics. Honestly, we need more truth in songs now than ever before. Yes! Great songs can come from catchy choruses, but I think it better to have a story or meaning behind the song. Who agrees? These songs are so relatable to life. :)

House wren sounds like "when can I see you again" another owl city song!

He used a lot of compression on this album. One thing I don’t like is he used the same melody in 3 of his songs, but other than that, love the drums and synths. Glad to see he’s wanting to go back to his younger days of creativity.

Not really seeing the big hype on the All My Friends alternative version. The original sounds more fun. Was also hoping Firebird was gonna be a ballad but at least the alternative version sounds more like a ballad. Then again, this is me after only listening once. I'm sure I'll enjoy these more once we're able to listen to the full versions!

Cloud Nine FireBird original and alternative version and New York City Winners Never Quit is my favorite it makes me feel so good and firebird reminds me about the past and my younger life it's awesome the alt makes me think that no matter what fantastic

I really like Firebird! It has that post-rock/rock feel to it which I really like. And Cinematic really hits home to me since filming and acting are some of my many passions and a huge part of me. Lucid Dream is also very dreamy and gorgeous, something I really loved about Owl City's older stuff. I don't mind All My Friends either, since it's close to the kind of music I used to listen to as a 10-13 year old. Poppy, light rap, stuff like that. It's not the greatest as I somewhat grew out of that phase, but the style still holds a place in my heart. And it's really catchy and entertaining for some reason, lol. But the alternative version is SO much better, I've got to admit! Overall, I feel like this is going to be a great album, despite what anyone else says. :)
