Hi Daniel, I don’t know where your located but I ordered that ownboard bamboo on your site with the discount and I can’t seem to find a tracking number for shipping. Is it coming from China? I’m here in the USA California
You will get the tracking number from FedEx once it arrives into California, i think it enters the US at Long Beach anyways. For me, it took about 3 weeks total to arrive in Dallas, TX
Serious question, how does it compare today? It now comes with an oled remote and comes with both wheels and pulleys for 1k. For 1k, is it worth it over its bigger brother the Zeus Pro, which is almost double the price for the 2 in 1 option?
That board is essentially a more expensive, worse quality board than this one, they are very similar in design. But the deck is better on the ownboard, the battery is better also. I got my bamboo gt for around 740 and if i wanted the slick rev equivalent id be looking at over 1000 pounds
@@Coptah I have the 2.0 Carbon, Much Better Looking & hit 27mph always have hit 33mph on the flat can do 20mph up hill , and the Deck is WAY better & hand made in the UK. Awesome that you have opinion on a Board you DON'T HAVE . LOL
Hey Daniel, first I watched all your videos they are helping me a lot. I have question for you. I have ExWay X1 Pro, and I am thinking about buying Ownboard Bamboo, mainly because of cloudwheels (your video) so my ride would be smoth. My question is, can you use and ride cloudwheels on ExWay X1 Pro Riot? I have found pictures saying yes, but since you're awesome RU-vidr mane you could try it in video? You have all thinks I don't. Wish you the best!!
Without removing the motor pulley cover, the biggest size you can use is something like 99mm, and at that size you’re already at risk of getting wheel bite. Cloudwheels are 120mm so you’d need to remove those covers and add risers, but you’d need to cut the rear riser because of the cables that plug into the deck. I never tried this and don’t intend to. I prefer smaller wheels for this board.
@@DanielKwan Thank you for answer! I watched your video on Ownboard like 7 times. I think I need this Ownboard with Cloudwheels I ride in Prague (Czechia). Your videos on eboards are best and funny! Keep doing them It really helped me to choose ExWay Pro. Now I am looking for more comfortable ride. You the best
I have an evolve carbon GTR. Would those cloud wheels just slap right on or would I need to swap a few things and if so what things would need to be replaced etc to get the set up working. Thanks I’m advance everyone
Bigger wheels will give higher top speed and less torque if compared to smaller wheels with same gear ratio. Higher the gear ratio the more torque and less top speed if kept with same size wheels. Hope this helps anyone wondering.
i am thinking about getting this or a wowgo at2 i am a kid so i am around 100 pounds so range is great i have a wowgo 3 it is fun but i really want a bigger battery bc i am going from one friend's house to another and can't bring a charger so i end with like 19 miles on my board at the end of the day i really want cloud wheels bc somtimes i need to fallow my friends on dirt paths which is not fun the dirt is packed in and mostly smooth would cloud wheels help with that. i also carve and go about 24 mph so i chew tho battery going fast and offroad
Those cloud wheels remind me of the rough stuff wheels from slick revolution. I found those super unstable in any kind of damp conditions, where you could fishtail easily. Seems dry where you are, maybe this is only a UK problem ;-) In any case great detailed review as usual!
OWNBOARD SUCKS SO MUCH i ordered the carbon AT on the 18.10. and till today the board/package still hasen't cleared the customer clearence in china... so my recomendation would be that you dont order anything from them because they are clules and they suck a lot... had no problems with meepo and backfire, meepo even delivered a week earlyer also the customer service sucks, and all they have are empty promises...
I really like what I hear about this board. If heavy riders use this board with cloud wheels do you think the enclosures will hit the ground. A rider 220 pounds and above. 🤙🤙keep it up.
@@DanielKwan Can You make a small test with 220 pound rider, or a rider with backpack to see how much clearence is? It would help A LOT for many people with decision.
great video review and I love the objectivity!! finally and decent reviewer that tells it like it is. just curious - What happens when a cop catches ya? - do they take your board away?
I forget the exact rules here. I think if they treat the board as a PEV, they can take it away. But whenever I’ve been stopped, they’ve always treated it as a skateboard, which is a small fine.
I've heard a lot of bad reviews about Ownboard.* People complain about motor problems, etc. According to a lot of Ownboard owners, the customer service staff also take ages to respond to reports and then they charge you again for faulty components even if you are in warranty. Customers also say that the replacement parts take ages to arrive too. I hope Ownboard's customer service isn't as bad as people are saying because I'm interested in buying a board from them, but now I'm having reservations. *See Ownboard's official Facebook page and Trustpilot for reviews.
I picked up a bamboo AT to compare with my evolve bamboo GTR. So far I'm having technical issues with both! LOL As for the ownboard, I've had two bearings fall apart after a few days of riding. They're still pretty greasy so I don't know what the issue was. I did ride in the rain a lot with it. Anyways, I'd go grab a new set of bearings and change them but I can't get them out of the one piece metal tire hub... broken or otherwise. Same for the drive gear bearing. Any advice?
luzez I ordered the ownboard bamboo just because I like the drop down type of board to be lower to the ground and I love the wheels. Just my preference.
I was asking the same question. I ultimately opted for the Bamboo Cloud GT + Evolve 7" Street wheels kit which are on sale for $150 at this time. Apparently the Evolve wheels are compatible with the Bamboo but I won't really know until both arrive. With the Coronavirus scare going on, I have no idea how long it will take to get the Bamboo. The new remote from Ownboard with display was what made me overcome my hesitance over buying another Ownboard board.
Got Carbon GT today with cloud wheels. I tightened the bushings to nearly max. I'm 205lbs. Board is still maneuverable but not wobbly at all. Coming from Meepo V3, initial punch of speed is about the same with full 🔋. Meelo usually loses power due to battery sag, but carbon gt keeps going strong and does not lose speed much in hills. It carves better than meepo even after tightening bushings a lot. I'm so glad I got the carbon for $100 more. Looks amazing and the board is one piece.
I think the top speed is increased on the smaller wheels because the big wheels have lots of squishy drag? If the larger AT wheels have more drag and friction (you can tell if they have worse freeroll characteristics), that added friction will reduce your top speed. I notice this on my ranger x2
Anyone know if the ESC can upgraded or flashed somehow to allow for a more aggressive braking response curve? I see they have something like this: www.hobbywing.com/goods.php?id=641&filter_attr=0
So I swapped the AT wheels out for the Cloud wheels on my Carbon AT. In the process, I measured gear ratios & wheel sizes, and the Cloud wheels should have an 8% increase in speed over the AT wheels, but should have lost torque in the process. Why it feels like it accelerates faster to you, Daniel, I don't know. Larger wheels have a greater moment of inertia than smaller wheels (more mass further away from the axis of rotation), so for a given torque they will accelerate slower. Whether that effect is great enough to feel or not, I do not know. I haven't been able to get out to try the wheels for myself yet.
to achieve better braking at lower speed, you could change the belt ration but that would lower top speed, or get a higher torque motor, the 6380 or 6384 motor is best for braking
agreed, but evolve is crazy expensive in EU compared to original (Australian) price. they could have come up with somewhat more original pattern on the grip tape nevertheless :)
Hahaha you numb f*ck (@ the range) 🤣. Dan, again great video 😎🤙! Keep it rollin' bro' Indeed, missing the display. Aesthetically, have to say, those gold and Word-printed-like slogans are a little too much, but it looks so damn good. I was looking into the new generation of Evolve boards (GTR), but this is getting close. So I'm waiting for a small upgrade to the display side.
Hey Daniel what city were you riding in? Are cops really that strict over where you are from? Have you ever gotten a fine/ticket? Have you seen cops take away the board for riders that are going too fast?
Looks like a good board - cloud wheels for commuting, AT wheels for weekend fun on dirt and gravel woodland trails, where you wouldn't want to hit the top speed anyway. The only issue is the price with import duty and VAT it's not that far from Evolve, and you still have to deal with Chinese support, so any broken part will take weeks to replace. Unless it goes on sale soon, there's no reason to buy it if you live in Europe.
Especially in Australia. I was looking at the Ownboard Carbon AT against the Evolve GTR Carbon; there was a sale that brought it's price down to about 1500 AUD vs the $2000 AUD of the GTR. I went with the GTR mainly because of customer support and accessibility to parts. Without the sale I believe the Ownboard is actually the same price as the GTR, before shipping or tax.
It's the diameter of the wheel that makes the difference in top speeds and range. The longer the level arm, the more tangential force needs to be applied for rotation.
Awesome review, as always. I ordered my Bamboo at 3 weeks ago and i am still waiting for it. They didn't have the cloudwheels back then. I reordered them immediately after having watched your video. :-)
Daniel, your lack of homework in to this board and company had been an insane dissapoitnment. A ton of people trusted your opinion and review here only to be let down. Looking at recent reviews and posts on Reddit you'll find that a bunch of people who ordered this board received entirely dead boards on arrival, boards with parts missing, things that are downright dangerous. This board nearly killed me yesterday because of this issue, and I trusted your opinion. It won't happen again.
Post the links to some of those recent reviews here please so others can see. I don’t recall seeing more issues for this board than other boards but maybe I just didn’t see those posts. There have also been a bunch of positive reviews for this board. Sorry you got a lemon. Hope Ownboard will get it fixed for you.
Man just because of your ownboard videos i decided to buy oswnboard carbon at with could wheels. Just one question before I buy, is carbon are less flexy than bamboo? I hate too flexy decks... Thnx :)
Yea I hate the engraving on the bottom...if I decide to keep the board, I plan on vinyl wrapping the bottom and change the grip tape. But then your idea of just painting over it might be good enough. I’ll do that first. I think the braking might be ok for me as I’m much lighter.
I sold my Backfire Ranger X1 because the ride felt a little too lumbering. The OW Bamboo with Cloud wheels really sounds like it hits the sweet spot! The one thing holding me back from buying another Ownboard is that I insist on having a display or app with ride info. That barebones remote might be acceptable for a ~$400 board but, as price scales up, so do expectations.
Good video several things stick out 👉 your feelings of soft breaks 👉 smaller wheels making the DKPT manageable 👉 power the board offers 👉 what appears to be good value. ▶️I do have a question would a heavier rider bottom out a little? Wish these companies would send to heavier riders so we can get a good look at how the board would perform. I think this board would sit high with AT wheels but some people may want to rock the Cloud Wheels. Maybe you can talk to the company and make a suggestion🤙🤙
MrPhillipsTheChangeAgent yo I have the carbon version and I’m 314lbs and the range is effected for sure but I’ve gotten it to 26mph and it has taken me up steep inclines with effort and slowly at the top but from a dead stop. I can’t speak to the deck but this setup is fun and awesome with lots of torque... I’m going to post a review at some point on my channel. Just want to spend a bit more time with it. I’m reaching out to @ownboard to see if they will send me the bamboo version to test just to see how it holds under an super oversized rider...we will see how it goes. But I highly recommend this board!
Well it should be! Very professional, well thought out, great color, very well planned out. You make the best e board videos! I definitely think bigger things could be in your future!!
Daniel Kwan You do a great job on everything, your videos are engaging, from the technical side sound, color, editing, camera work are all top notch. Story telling and presentation of information are great! All of your talents would cross over to any type of video work!
Daniel Kwan Awesome review! I was wondering if you would suggest buying this board over the Backfire Carbon G3 Plus? I like the convenience and easy maintenance of hub motors however, from the looks of your videos and guides, belt drives seem to have more benefits. Thanks in advance!
Daniel Kwan Thanks for the reply! Portability shouldn’t be a problem however I am stuck on weather I would prefer double kingpin over a single/reverse kingpin. I want to ride fast without wobbles so I’m leaning towards backfire however my streets aren’t well maintained enough for a street board like the g3 plus :/ . Which would you personally prefer?
Dylan Ferris If you want to go fast without wobbles I would recommend not using double kingpin. If you like G3P but roads aren’t that great you might want to wait a few weeks for the Backfire Zealot and get bigger 3rd party wheels.
So in this price range it seems the two clear choices are the Ownboards and the Backfire Ranger X2. Slightly feels like a lose lose though based on your reviews. Would love for a company to really innovate this year and make something great at the $1000 price point.
Sava Jonas I find myself leaning towards the ownboard. Those cloud wheels are fantastic. I found out that they are the manufacturer for slick revolution.
I don't know the relationship but it looks like Onewow, which is being DIY modded and resold by some people like Faboard. And this one looks like 2 gens older than latest (based on Faboard Vlog)
There are a bunch of factories that make e-skate parts for other brands, and more and more of those factories are releasing their own boards under their own brands. None of them make parts for every component so they often source parts from each other.
Would you recommend me getting this board or the carbon? Im fairly new to boarding and weigh 180lbs. I want something smooth and comfortable and want to be able to manuever easily.
