Any owners of commercial boats that get grounded should permanently lose their ability to own any kind of commercial tourism permit… indefinitely… on top of paying a huge fine and the cost to salvage/remove the boat.

The “Maui Princess”?! I bet this guys not even from Hawai’i, let alone kanaka maoli. I’m so over everyone feeling entitled to exploit these islands, our resources and the Hawaiian culture.

@@bobdol69 Also, it’s kind of really sad… in a pathetic kind of way, that you sit around imagining things that aren’t happening 🤔. Poor Bob.

How can issuing permits for boats, or tourism, be the causes for groundings and beachings? I don't get the connection. The causes of each accident need to be examined for common reasons. The boat owners and operators don't want to run aground. Enforcement and management are important, but this person being interviewed does not understand the accidents and is trying to match them with her pre-existing complaints.

The correlation is that the “state” is issuing too many permits, which is raising the instances of this happening. More and more commercial boats in the water increases the odds significantly. There also isn’t regulations, such as ensuring staff have proper training. And also there’s issues because the “state” is allowing these commercial boats to enter ocean reserves which were created to PROTECT that area of ocean, yet the “state” is flagrantly violating the entire idea behind these reserves… for tourism. Our land, our ocean, our culture, our sacred sites, mean a lot to the people of these islands and we believe protecting these things should be a priority, meanwhile the “state” appears to prioritize tourists and money above all else.
