At times she was pacing and at times she was single footing (4 beat). I would guess she's a Missouri fox trotter and her lack of body control is probably why it varied so much.

I'm thinking fox trotter. She started looking like one towards the end of the video. Smart mare, realized pretty quickly who her leader is.

I love the way you reprimanded her! You can see the immediate change in her face when she realizes she isn’t getting away with that behavior. I have used this with my horses and it generally ends them trying to bite. They run into my elbow or hand, I don’t hit them. I love also what you say about testing medically or attitude problem. Haha. I think Missouri Fox Trotter.

Great video, learned a lot about horses not using their back end. Good to see the reality about what horses do , trying to bite, walking ahead, I see it all the time and people just allow it. There should be courses, people training, not just horse training. Well I guess there are , just not enough people think they need it. Great video!

Whatever she is she is almost in a dead pace at her running walk. Super excited to watch this develop. I have a very pacey TW that I have been trying to work with myself. Poles, poles, and more poles but I am excited to see how you go about getting her to use her back end and collect to gait!

That gait is wild😅. I rode a mare that I was too inexperienced/ignorant to realize had the potential to be dangerous to me as an inexperienced rider. Watching you work with this horse and the other one that tried to bite you while under saddle opened my eyes. I was over my head. Fortunately I realized it and moved on to a different situation.

Ok, being the resident non-horse person, and knowing even less about breeds, my first thought was Paso Fino. Wouldn't recognize a gated horse if my life depended on it. But this horse's movement is very distinct, and is why I guessed Paso. Pretty girl! Looking forward to this one. Thanks Tim! ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎🐕

I grew up with us breeding, training, showing. I started riding at 4yrs. My thoughts: Her constant snorting would give me pause. Not lame, no uneven head jerking. I’d say she need a lot of ground work, then back to the saddle. Teach her to bend & flex, before getting back in the saddle.

The way she stood when you mounted her, her movement while riding reminds me of my a Tennessee Walker I had back the 80’s.

I thought she was gaited by the way she walked. I call it camel walking -- same side front and back move forward together rather than diagonally. I had a Tennessee Walker cross (loved that incredible mare) that moved in a similar way. If your girl's backend doesn't improve with proper riding, it might be worth having her checked for DSLD -- falling pasterns. I lost my mare to this and reluctance to engage the hindquarters is a sign. She's gorgeous though -- I love how alert she is.

We called that a plantation walker. I dont know what she would be called today. A smooth walker, not from Missouri, but a pleasant ride for the distance.

What you see is all cosmetic. My farrier has a saying, you trim the bottom for the horse and the top for the owner. It's better that they come in like this than fresh trimmed. Many more problems with fresh trimmed horses.

Recent subscriber, and I’m enjoying the video’s I’ve seen so far… and first comment. I tend to go with Fox Trotter, but the one thing I noticed was Tim’s butt barely moved when she was trotting or racking. I’d call that the Cadillac of trail horses right there. Smooth! Hope the stumbling in the beginning was nothing serious.

My initial thought had been Paso Fino or Peruvian Paso but she doesn't scoop as much as my experience in those breeds. So then I was thinking Mangalarga Marchador, but with the head shake and tail carriage I'll go with Missouri Fox Trotter.

She has that crazy eye where you can see the white!! I have found horses with that can be unpredictable. I was seeing that in paint quarter horses. I just saw what you said about that.

She is a five gaited horse, where most horses are three gaited. I don’t know if it’s still like this but used to you couldn’t show a Palomino colored horse in a five gaited horse show. That color wasn’t allowed so if you got a five gaited foal or colt that was Palomino colored it was considered a cull. So, though it had the same breeding it was worth a lot less because it couldn’t be shown.

I'm 57 and spent the first 26 years of my life in an area where there were no gaited horses so I'd only ridden QH and TB. Well...I moved to Tennessee at 26 saw lots of gaited horses and my first question was how do you tell if they're crippled? 😂

she is some kind of gaited horse so my first thought was tennessee walker but honestly..she could be a missouri foxtrotter / paso fino / paso peruano / rocky mountain or racking horse .. I don't know much about the differences but I hope she's one of these.

I would also say that she's a Missouri Fox Trotter, but her gait is definitely off. Palomino is a common color in that breed.

Are we sure she does not have a breathing issue? Her color is champagne not palomino. She's probably a MO Foxtrotter. i never heard of the sclera showing as typical of that breed though. I associate it with appaloosas. I think there are appaloosas who do a lateral gait, in the Appaloosa breed they sometimes call it the "Indian shuffle".

If a Walker I know how to engage rear. Do the classical training and get the head down and out. The head will bob.

Have you searched his other videos and try the methods he usually uses to engage the back end? I’ll ask him next time we video her if engaging her back end will be taught differently because of the breed.

I think MFT also. I ride QH, TB and a few different gaited breeds and I use the same things to get them using their rear and off the front end. No matter the breed, they all need to round their backs and be conditioned so that they gait better whether that's single foot/rack, trot, lope.

I’m thinking a Mexican type horse. They can walk/trot so fast it’s weird as hell. As for the whites of eyes being more prevalent on some breads that’s really interesting. I was thinking man she looks scared as hell but then again, she’s not acting scared. And for everyone who thinks it’s abuse to give a smack, remember she was intending to take a chunk outta him. So really he did less than she did. And if she thinks it’s ok to take a chunk outta a human then, later on, she will have no problem stepping on, kicking, bucking- or whatever her choice her tool is. I saw a horse pick up a stable girl by the shoulder and drag her into his pin. Why? Because no one told him he wasn’t boss and now he’s dead and that girl is damaged forever. So I have nothing against a little swat.

Good call on the EPM. Could be but just out of shape explains everything too. I did the tail pull and there was resistance but I would liked to have seen more. After a week or so of work if she is not getting stronger I will reassess for EPM.

I have watched a number of gaited horse training videos by Gaye DeRusso. She says that many gaited horses are misdiagnosed for problems with tripping (as EPM and other issues) because of being gaited and needing specific riding and training techniques. Many also have trouble cantering because they are out of balance and get scared. Mine bucked when asked to canter. Their feet move differently and they are often thought lame when it's just the gaitedness. @@timandersonhorsetraining

Ground work could help with rounding her back and getting her hind legs under her. Her hind feet never come further forward than the stifle joint.

My horse also has a problem with the girth when ever I go tack her up she is always moving back and forth when I do the girth one of my trainers tells me to move with her when she dose it and one tells me to keep the girth lose until I get on then we will tighten it

As for the biting, my understanding is even if the horse does have ulcers or some type of pain, they should still not act aggressively towards someone, correct ? Like would you feel you made a mistake in whacking her if you found out she has ulcers ?

A few videos ago Trigger bit me and I did not scold him because I do think he has ulcers. This horse does not have ulcers. If she had ulcers she would have show discomfort before and after the bite, she did not.

Late to the show but I'd be interested in knowing more about horses holding water in there mouth. She had already tried to bite Tim 2x but the water stayed in her mouth. I've never seen or heard of this before

Her lateral gait makes me think TWH, but she is not over striding with her back end at all. And her head doesn't bob much. I have a TWH and she doesn't seem to resemble the breed to me, but that gait is throwing me off! Seems too big to be a Paso Fino but I don't know that breed as well.
