I remember reading 'Equianos' Travels' decades ago. A 'slave narrative' written by Olaudeh Equino, he came to England. The book was an amazing experience.

I am fascinated by slave narratives. I've also read Equino's as well as a couple of others and I think they're all so insightful and yet divergent in their experiences

No way you two know each other? I’m so invested on your masters Cait!! I actually researched requirements to get in but having to go to Oxford in person is not economically sustainable for me at the moment since I don’t work remotely😢 maybe in the furute!! Keep the videos coming please since it’s a way for those of us who can’t do this dream to see what the experience looks like!!!

Thank you so much for the support and one thing I've learnt, working for eight years and then only going back to study, is that it's never too late to pursue so I have no doubt this will be on the cards for you in the future :)

Great video- at the 20 min mark in the library, what type of journal is that you're using - it looks green and large - thanks!

It's just a standard lined journal that I got from the stationery store but I think this is the same one from Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B8M327ZZ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I am visually impaired, but I have always been a bookworm, even though that I have lost a lot of my vision, I buy iBooks. I speak 10 languages, and I can read in most of them, so of course I looked for my books now on iBooks. I still love to go to bookstores, and now that I know about black wells, I think my purpose for visiting Oxford might have to be to go and see what’s in there. I do have some technology that can enlarge the print on regular books, so I still love the feel of a regular print book, not to mention the smell, but they just take much longer to read them before. Don’t worry, some of my equipment can even scan the books pages and read them aloud, but as long as I can still see, I will be using my eyes to read. Does black wells also have a nice place to drink coffee, or are there certain shops in Oxford, where you go and bookworms can just read And enjoy cake and coffee? I was watching somebody else’s blog and she was talking about crosstown I believe, it is a place that sells pumpkin donuts.

Hi Cait, thanks for sharing your experience! I was a student for the Undergraduate Diploma in Creative Writing at Oxford under the very same department - Continuing Education, and I am planning on doing my masters sometime in the next 2-3 years. I have so many questions for you regarding the program, I hope you see these: 1. How many residencies are there in a year? / How often do you have to travel to Oxford? 2. And assuming that you are tied to a college, are you offered the same room every time you're back at Oxford, or do you have to reapply for a room every single time? 3. What does the residency look like? You mentioned tours, are those part of the curriculum? I'm wondering what a master's program would look like because my undergrad course was 90% online and 10% physical. We had a summer school session in year 1 that lasted for 3 weeks, and completed the rest of the course online. If you would prefer that we email, please let me know how to get in touch with you. Thanks! N

Thank you for reaching out! I’m so happy to answer any questions on the programme that you may have. 1. There generally three residences a year (one per term), so in total they will be between 4-6 over two years. I will travel to Oxford for those residence weeks and may organise additional travel if I need to be in the library or archives. 2. The accommodation at Kellogg is temporary, like an Airbnb or Booking.com. You are not bound to stay at the college while you are there but it is good accommodation and you get a discount as a student affiliated to the college. Disclaimer is that this is just for Kellogg and I’m not sure what the other college accommodation is like. 3. Residences I think vary each time. This first one included tours but mainly they are 5 days of in person lectures. From the second residency you get to chose which lectures/seminars you want to attend. I know that tours to museums and historical houses are also included in the second year. The remaining time in between residences is for autonomous studying and contributing to discussion boards.

Hi @@cait_murphyhurrell, wonderful thanks for getting back to me! Last few questions: 1. Where do the lectures take place? Is it in Rewley House or at the Continuing Education Department building in Summertown? Or are they spread out across Oxford and its buildings? 2. Regarding Kellogg College - When you applied for the course, did they ask you to apply to a college as well, and was Kellogg at the top of your list, or did they choose one for you? 3. I'm wondering since you were matriculated, do you automatically get a lifelong membership/access to the Bod? 4. Last one - How long do the residencies run for? You mentioned 5 days of in-person lectures. Do they go beyond those 5 days in the form of tours and such? Thanks Cait!

Hello,beautiful video !! I have a question ( I am applying for the same Mst program ): can you stay for a month after your resident weeks ? Is there any limit for part time students ? Thank you again for taking us with you on this journey
@cait_murphyhurrell

So glad you liked it and so excited that you're applying for this programme! It is honestly amazing! You can stay as long as you like, there is no time limit on the number of days. If you are in Kellogg College you get a discount to book in at their accommodation and it is very reasonable for Oxford rates. The Continuing Education Department also has accommodation that you can book at (Rewley House on Booking.com) which is slightly cheaper too and depending on availability you can stay as long as you like. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to reach out :)

Hi, what was the admissions test/interview for English literature and your current masters like?😊
@cait_murphyhurrell
@cait_murphyhurrell 8 месяцев назад
You have to submit an application via the Oxford website (I think I’ve linked it in the description). As a part of the documents you have to provide you are required to write a statement of purpose and provide a written sample of work. If your application passes this first round, you are invited for an interview where you will have to discuss an artefact- I can make a full video about this if it is something people are interested in 😊

Do you think that a 45 old woman like e can go to Oxford to study English literature my only passion in life as I a an author too ? Please you consider making some videos about the process of registering in the uni from A to Z plus all costs and how much years should be ? Thank you. I search all the internet websites of UK universities but I'm sorry I couldn't ant it as it's totally different in Asian countries ? Thanks if could do it
