Edit: Don't stress about the fish. It's a man made lake with no fist planted there ever and Henri explodes the lake for some video about 5 times per year so there is 0% change of any fish live there :D Big thanks to Son's of Xplosions RU-vid channel and to Vision Recearch, all high speed clips are filmed with their Phantom VEO 640S camera. We filmed really nice ad video for the camera and couple other things couple weeks ago so some really cool slow motion stuff coming soon! The camera can film up to 1,400 frames-per-second (fps) at its 2560 x 1600 resolution and it's much easier to use than the faster v2512 that we used last time. First burst is coming from the dynamite itself and the second burst is the explosion being reflected from the bottom of the lake. No secondary explosion.

I used to do oxy-acetylene balloons quite often over the years. Your problem more than likely was not enough oxygen to properly burn the acetylene. Light the torch first, adjust the flame til it is a crisp blue flame, then snuff the flame out on a piece of wood. The raw gas mixture will then be perfect! If your going to use dynamite while not use ammonium nitrate dampened with diesel as your explosive mixture. Much cheaper than using a whole bunch of dynamite and more affective. It needs to stay dry though so use thick garbage bag then add just one stick of dynamite as the primary charge. When that goes the ammonium nitrate will blow as secondary charge. This is exactly the setup hard rock mining uses. Very productive yet economical. If your friend can buy dynamite he can also buy untreated ammonium nitrate, electric blasting caps, etc to do it right or homemade primary explosive can be made with black powder and extension cord going to a piece of cardboard with two nails stuck in the edge about 2cm apart. Soldier extension cord wires to the nails then wrap thin wire between the two nails and stick the part with thin wire into the black powder. Use as much extension cord as needed to be safely away from charge then apply 12v battery power to other end of extension cord by cutting end off and baring enough wire to reach both poles of 12v car battery. It will cause a spark when the thin wire burns up setting off black powder which in turn sets off ammonium nitrate/diesel solution! Just make sure your whole charge is waterproofed good and you will have great success! I used to blast rock with this setup when mining way out in forest. Oh, also be sure your friend is buying uncoated white ammonium nitrate, not the stuff called 16-16-16 fertilizer sold at nurseries. It is coated with a lite brown substance rendering it non-usable for explosions!

It looks like you had fun! Perhaps 2 weather balloons, one with oxygen and the other with acetylene. Connect the 2 with a 50mm+ hose and an air actuated valve. Place under the ice and from a safe distance open the valve. Wait “awhile” and detonate with shock tube. It will take some trial and error. I just found your channel and am really enjoying it. It’s probably a good thing I didn’t have your resources when I was 14. I don’t think I would have made it to 15. A broken aluminum ski pole, sugar and fertilizer was all I had and was able to make a pretty Big Bang.

Pretty cool but be careful with those because I thought of doing this and the 1st thing that came to mind was That static electricity can possibly set it off from the rubber of the bloon. I feel like acetylene mix with oxygen can be set off very easy

Do a simple metering tank setup: One tank you fill to a certain pressure with acetylene, and one you fill with oxygen. Then you dump both the tanks into the balloon, and if you dialed in the pressures right, you get pretty close to stochiometric ratio every time. The principle is used in gas combustion cannons, and is relatively easy to implement.

*@Beyond the press* Another problem source could be if there comes in some water in the tube, when you fill the ballon the gas tubes pressure is enough to push away the water, but when you ignite the gas then the water has flowed back & acts like a big wall in the pipe & stops the fire/explosion from continuing.

Putting a bit of water into the bottle might have done the trick without the snow. But what do I know. Excellent vid's. That last series of explosions looks similar to that fancy pants fountain in Las Vegas, very cool.

my friends and I filled a refrigerator shipping box with punching balloons full of oxy-acetylene, and set it off in in rural michigan in 1992. I have never seen so many police cars in the middle of nowhere. good times.

I made a tin can (steel can) cannon as a teen. Basically a bunch of cans stacked the lower 3-4 cans had half their lids and bottoms removed and alternated to make a baffle, then another 4-5 cans on top for the barrel. A tennis ball fit in there just right. It used lighter fluid normally but we decided to try oxy-acetylene instead. The tennis ball disappeared. Kids, don't try this at home.

For one frame it looks like there is a small sun lying in the snow on the lake. Very pretty! Should make a Christmas card out of it :-)

Acetylene bottles will not deliver gas at a pressure higher than 15 psi as the gas becomes highly unstable and extremely dangerous and the pressure required to inflate the ballon, possibly only initially, but would have exceeded 15 psi which would result in the regulator shutting the flow of gas down..... propane may have a higher delivery pressure, I don’t know. Please don’t hate me for saying this but you might want to give your gas mixture a little more oxygen..... I have some experience and always found that if I lit the gas axe and set the flame to very slightly oxidising then crimped the acetylene hose with my hand to cut the flow and put the flame out then fill your ballon, my personal favourite was the black bin liner. I have always found that with the oxygen rich mixture that the resulting explosion is extremely violent with little or no flame, the bin bag would just change, change from black to blue in an nano second and send out an ear splitting crack.... anyway, I love your channel and keep on doing what you’re doing...... what about just piping the hose straight under the ice..... empty the both bottles then use your brilliant shock tube igniter.... lift the ice right off the lake!!!!

I have an idea... 1. use a cutting torch to adjust the fuel/oxygen mixture ( i say fuel because you can use other things then just acetylene. i've herd of mapp, propane, and butane, I've even seen a video of a cutting torch that uses gasoline or petrol as the fuel ) i think it's something like a 20% fuel to 80% oxygen mix, but i don't remember. a neutral flame should be a good starting place. 2. once flame is adjusted turn off tanks at the bottle ( not the torch) 3. hook up your feed line hose to the and of the cutting torch. all you have to do after that is turn on both tanks. i suppose that you could adjust it at the regulator, but where's the fun in that also... pvc pipe and an elbow to get the balloon away from the hole ( the joints do not have to be glued) .

if you manage to get back to that lake and it is still frozen over you could try using a barrel (one from a drinking fountain) that way the flame can get to the gas, I think the water pressed the baloonslatex against the tube to moment you stopped filling it

Try the giant weather balloon vs the frozen pond with just air. I am curious if the air could break the ice by itself with pressure and water displacement alone. You could hook it up to a strong air compressor and allow the pond to refreeze to prevent the balloon from escape.

Thought you would at least put a weight on the ballon the 2nd time so it would stay underwater. My Speculation is that the pressure on ballon against the ice kinked the tube not letting the ignition to go up into the ballon.

Set your torch controls to the correct mix by lighting it. You must have a neutral flame for the ideal mix, leave the torch controls in their set position and turn the oxy and acetylene bottles off. Wait till the torch extinguishes and ceases to flow. Wait a few minutes to ensure flame is out. Connect tip of torch to hose, open acetylene first then oxy at bottles. Once your container has filled with gas, removed the source, stand well back and ignite. This "acetylene bomb" which is technically what it is, is very dangerous just like any gas explosion.

for this experiment i suggest using propane and oxygen. With Propane you can use a higher pressure than with acetylene

You might be able to overcome the pressure differential problems as follows: Make a rigid container out of plastic guttering downpipe. Install a tube nearly to the (weighted) bottom of pipe to fill it with oxygen. (Your oxygen bottle will have more pressure than the acetylene bottle.) Fill about half the tube with nice, fluffy sawdust. Plug top end with water/gastight container containing an electric blasting cap and about an ounce of flash powder (black powder if you cannot get flash powder) Stuff through hole in ice, weighted end first. Fill pipe with oxygen, which will stir up the sawdust, and then detonate before the sawdust settles.

While in college years ago, a group of use from the welding class took a weather balloon and filled it with oxy-acetylene to about 1 meter size (3 feet). I then shot it with a flaming arrow from my longbow. The explosion was LOUD, and my ears were ringing for about an hour afterwards. Silliest thing we ever done to prove how dangerous the gases were.

Install small ball valves to the torch inputs. So when you have the mix adjusted(neutral flame) you can shut the feed off quickly and accurately while keeping the mix right. Also add some weight to the balloon to anchor. Consider rubber loses flex the colder it gets. Thank you for content and effort.

Sink a plastic barrel into lake, feed the assahappi from below and have it push the water out. Some kind of floater thingy hinged on the edge of the barrel can signal you when the barrel is full of assahappi.

A way l get the perfect mix is with a cutting torch set up then put tip on a flat surface flame goes out don't touch settings now fill what ever you want . I like filling a paper coffee cup. But outdoors one could fill something bigger.

oxy-acetylene is dangerous plz be safe. dry environments should take greatest care, i got lucky only 3 gallons blew up on me just left some bruises and slight hearing damage(it came back) but could have been avoided with better static control or not doing it all which is what you should do, don't play with explosives.

With the balloon under water the pressure pushes the gas back though the hose so hard a flame probably cant reach the balloon. You need to add a electric detonator to the inside of balloon.

It'd have to be a seriously 'wrong' gas mixture not to go off. Acetylene is inflammable at anything from 3% to 83% in air (which I take to be 15% to ~ 95% of an oxy-acetylene mix, if you take the nitrogen out) - that's a huge range, vastly greater than most inflammable gases. In other words, you'd have to be trying quite hard to produce an oxy-acetylene mix that won't explode.

At first we saw a high velocity detonation, second a low velocity explosion including a inflating ballon.... somebody just had to push the ballot back underwater with the fill hole of the ballon in the upright direction. Sadly we weren’t allowed to see a high velocity underwater detonation. That would have been a lot more impressive than the dynamite ....

You might want to try sinking the balloon to the bottom using a solid 180 degree connection. That way it will allow the balloon to expand naturally. Make the pipe connect to the balloon a little bigger. Practice using air in the summer with an underwater camera to see if you have any problems with the mechanical process .

We used to get trash bags and filled it with oxyacetylene then shoot with an air-gun, neighbours would get pissed as it would nearly blow the windows in.

simple fix: seal the side of the lake with duct tape, insert tube, freeze tube in place, put gas in to lake for 4-10 days. now blow it up. next, refill the lake with water, revegetate it, stock it with fish, do it again next year

This is some Bugs Bunny type stuff... Dynamite on a stick for solving problems.

The dynamite explosion in slow-mo looked like an angel.

To keep it under water, I'd use a large weight with a pulley on it that would sit on the bottom so you could easily adjust the depth. I wouldn't trust the filling tube to last under that strain, so it would be better to use a strong cord to adjust the height. Make sure to put a couple of knots in the cord so that after the fun and mayhem, you can rely on the knot to catch in the pulley and haul the weight back to the surface. As for gas mixture, you might consider experimenting with methane or propane mixtures, since acetylene has a tendency to do weird things above an atmosphere of pressure (which is why acetylene takes have acetone in them). Na the balloon just leaked as it pushed back through the hole the tape wasn't strong enough to hold it especially after it got wet. Next time if you have trouble a suggestion is to put a smaller diameter little peace of pipe inside the clear tube then your balloon the tape then some form of a hose clamp that can be tightened around the whole thing. But in the drone video you can see when the wind blows the balloon doesn't have any pressure inside of it because of the ripple that goes through balloon. Was still an awesome video you guys rock.

Attach water pump and air hose to a steel drum. Fill the steel drum with oxy/acetylene mix. As you pump water into the steel drum, it forces the oxy/acetylene mix through the air hose. Easy peasy. :)

9:32 that is just the water rushing back in the fill the void where the balloon was under the ice and its just shooting back up through the hole. Air does the same thing if you could see it.
