Oxycodone: What You Need To Know 

I am on oxycodone for pain, nothing in the world helps my pain like this drug. I have cancer, lupus, endometriosis, post leptospirosis and spinal meningitis damage. Weed helps me eat and oxycodone takes my pain down to a level where I can be productive.

My grandma had an operation and got prescribed this shit and she never used them. I told her I had a headache once and she just threw me a whole box. That was a good weekend.

I was on this drug for 6 weeks after an ankle fusion. The pain relief was great but the sedate effect was amazing. The constipation was hell though.

So much bad press on opioids. This is damaging for people who actually need this medication. How many ill people have ended up having to fight just to get pain relief? Shameful.

I was a pharmacy technician from 95 to 2002 and when we started seeing prescriptions of 160 30mg instant release pills per month for people who had very minor injuries, or in some cases none at all, I knew it was going to be a shitstorm at some point.

OxyContin effects everyone differently. Some people can take it for pain management and never have single thought about abusing the drug. Other people abuse it the moment they see it.

10:40 On the contrary prescription opioids and their lethality are vastly overstated. Just because they're implicated in a lot of death doesn't mean they're the actual death causative substance. This is clear by the fact that over two thirds of the deaths on any given year attributed to prescription opioids also counted heroin and/or fentanyl as contributors and we all know heroin IV and illicit fentanyl have a propensity to cause death far, far easier than prescription opioids. The LD50 of morphine is estimated to be around 150-250mg and this translates to 30-50 standard 5mg Norcos. The tylenol in it kills you first. In oxycodone this is roughly 20-33 5mg pills. Roughly halve this for 10mg pills which are fairly common and that's still 15-25 pills for hydrocodone and morphine-equivelent potency opioids and 10-17 pills of oxycodone. That's a lot, and takes deliberate levels of irresponsibility to produce death in JUST prescription opioids. Responsible users are well aware not to use alcohol around their doses and the concomittant prescribing of benzos and opioids has slashed even harder than opioid prescribing in general. We need to be more truthful about the potency of standard prescription type opioids, not less. They're only realistically fatally dangerous when irresponsibly combined with other similar drugs, but rarely are they dangerous on their own. Least we begin to factor in that most people on consistent therapy develop significant levels of tolerance to respiratory depression (but not necessarily analgesia) so the dose needed to kill them is going to be markedly higher.

I'm on Targin, which is a combination of oxycodone and naloxone. While I have no euphoria from taking it (I don't really care for that), it is the only thing that has helped my pain. I suffer from chronic back pain as a result of bulges in L3/4 and L4/5, while I have a protrusion/herniation in L5/S1 that has caused spinal stenosis (narrowing of the gap the spinal cord goes through). It causes sciatica, weakness in my legs when standing or walking and just radiating pain in my lower back. While it doesn't completely alleviate the pain, it makes tasks (such as walking around the supermarket) easier to do. In addition to taking this medication, I'm on Lyrica and see a physiotherapist. Some people have found that getting surgery has drastically reduced their pain, and need for pain medications. That's something I'd be interested in considering in the future.

I think poppy cultivation for natural medicine should be legal. There’s no reasonable reason to prohibit us from growing them and making our own medicine. The amount of plants you need to make heroin is massive so 20 to 30 plants pose no threat. We will change the laws

I have been on Oxicodone since 2013 for major back problems which I'm in pain constantly with nerve damage,scoliosis,6 or 7 missing discs,curvature of the spine,arthritis and they (doctor's) say I'll be in a wheel chair in about 10 years,well it's been 5 years and I am getting worse,but I have been seeing a doctor for my back and I was put on Oxicodone in 2013 and Opana, 15 mg and 10 mg and up until 3 or 4 months ago my doctor was closed down and now for a month I was without meds not knowing I was addicted, I had no sleep for a week and a half, no appetite,sweats,diarrhea, it was the worst feeling I ever had in my life, I was thinking about killing myself because the next day I would feel the same, like it was never going away, so I tried everything to try to feel better and nothing helped so I didn't go to heroin, thank God but did go to a drug that was not legal, and it helps but not good because I was sent to another doctor and I was already on the other and when this doctor found out what I was on from previous doctor he then wanted to give me 1/2 of what I was taken before which would not of helped enough and then the urine test showed it and then they said they couldn't see me anymore so after all of that since 2013, I'm back to square one and in debt with doctor bills, I would have been better off buying heroin on the street in he first place, but who should pay for this? You can ask my wife how many times I kept her up because in the beginning I didn't know what was wrong with me and she had to work the next day and alot of times I ran out and had to wait my 30 days till I got a refill, I am an addicted to it,it helped alot and it hurt bad alot.

I know that this drug has helped many people with severe pain and for things like cancer, and for that I will give its responsible use credit. It certainly helped me get through a painful dental abscess, as that pain was excruciating. I personally don't like the mental fog that it gives me. I had my gallbladder removed two months ago, and it helped when the pain was at its strongest. Thankfully the laparoscopic surgery wasn't too intense (as opposed to the old school surgery) and I only needed to take it once. I didn't even need it prescribed when I left the hospital, as I relied on Ibuprofen for pain relief (it's hard to be drugged and care for a five-year-old lol).

I had brain surgery back in 2012 an I get 180 M15s monthly. without them I'd have to deal with bad headaches all day long. But yes I admit I'm a addict.

As a chronic pain patient I can tell you the new 2016 CDC guidelines have done nothing to help anyone and in fact are much more harmful than helpful. I was on medication for over 10 years until 2018 when my doctor died, New doctor cut my medication by 80%, now I'm barely able to walk. Unless you are terminal doctors are terrified to prescribe any opiate medication because they think they will be arrested!

My dr has me on 30s for my arthritis as I’m allergic to just about everything else we’ve tried 😑 but it does the trick getting out of bed in the morning especially when it’s cold. And I’m only 24.. can’t wait to get old 😅

They won't give me this. They said I'm way over my "lifetime dosage" of OTC stuff, but they refuse to give me anything. I know others who have nothing wrong, no pain, faked it, and got Oxycodone, these "others" said it's because I have long hair...? Does that effect medical diagnosis?

I was hit by a car walking across US1 in St. Augustine, Florida. That was in 2013 and the car the doctors said was going at least 60mph. I was on morphine for three years and a lot of other medications. I don't have an addictive personality. I have seen people that ruined their lives from getting in an accident and started using pain meds. Now that's their life.

I was prescribed both oxycodone and hydrocodone when I had kidney stones , oxycodone mg for mg is about 25% more potent than hydrocodone for pain control ..

I also am a cancer patient and am prescribed liquid oxycodone as a breakthrough med. My oxy seems to evaporate sometimes before ever opening. I have two unopened still factory sealed bottles that are empty. I just purchased these about ten days ago. Life can be pretty bad for terminal cancer patients and it really sucks to add disappearing meds. Has this been happening to anyone else.

UK patient here. Not my choice but I seem to need daily dose of around 400mg slow release per day. I'm prescribed 75mg fast release per day. A mate gave me the extras last month and for 17 days I was off the bed I live on and doing tasks untouched for years. I want that life but am aware those are ultra high doses - I wish three 10mg per day did it for me. I'm back on the bed, spirit broken and back to constant pain. I'd go anywhere to be observed or go with daily scripts, any follow up at all - my injuries are massive and not getting better. What did I do???? Help before I give in.

This is very informative.,BUT, its a real shame that people who have chronic pain cant even get anything like this anymore for relief. In Michigan alone, the suicide rate has increased by 30%. I believe its because of this very reason...........

I'm on Oxy's for chronic pain along with other issues. I ended up on them due to allergies to other pain meds. Cause of the big issues with street fentanyl my doctor is trying to switch me to weed, which I'm also allergic to also and it's not covered. If and when I'm forced off the Oxy's I have no clue what I'll do. I'm at a dose now that doesn't help as much as it could, but I can still get out of bed which is a bonus. Without the Oxy's the pain is too much. People who need these drugs and who don't abuse them shouldn't be punished for others issues. Everyone should be a separate case and not lumped together for being on these meds. I didn't ask for this kind of life and I'm just trying to survive day by day. Doctors need to be smarter with who they prescribe these drugs to and do drug screening more often. I'd be willing to go through drug screening whenever if it means I get to stay on the one drug that helps me have some quality of life.

We have a version in Australia called Targin that has half the dose weight of Naloxone in it. I have been in it for year due to pain chronic antibiotic resistant bacterial dysbiosis and prostate cancer. Its doesn't cause constipation and works well against my pain...without causing any mental confusion.

I got this for an out patient surgery. They got me in and decided to cancel and take another approach. I was let go. I couldn’t hardly walk . I had had a small stroke 5 yrs ago and acquired a slight on going issues of balance. That could be why it really had such an affect on my gate.. it made me pleasantly content and sleepy.. I was down till the next day. I would think that depressed people, people with mental issues, people with disorders that affect their function in society, would love this stuff.Anyone who functions normally and is in touch with their life would not do this to themselves repeatedly unless they were in horrible pain and could not take part in society and life in general any longer.

I was just prescribed this for my pain. I was a little nervous about taking it until i watched this video. We shall see how I feel. I just dont want to turn into a pill head. I have a family to take care of.

Acid burn to my eyes left me totally blind in 1 eye and 40% loss in the other, leukemia 3 years after that 2 weeks before my 20th birthday, kemo made my bones brittle and I broke my left ankle twice, had both knees replaced, right shoulder, right elbow, left wrist and I've had over 30 operations on my eyes including cornea transplants, limbo stem cell transplant, glaucoma tubes behind eyes, tendons correction" I can't spell the actual word but it's to pull the eye back straight because it got lazy and turned". I now take the 30mg oxycodone and they work and ots allowed me to go back to work have a life outside of a dark room as well as control my headaches so that I dont bite down and break off any more teeth during a migraine because my eyes dont focus in light well. B8t because someone's kid abused them and took them for recreational purposes I'm going to be punished. Wanna know the real issue its simple? They start kids off on ADD,ADHD ,and many others then they prescribe a medication for that sickness. They tell these kids to be the best version of themselves they need these drugs and when they get out of school and the meds are taken away they will try anything and everything to kill their senses and feel what they have learned as normal. That's the epidemic.

People like myself, with Severe Chronic Diabling Pain, with one severe condition and multiple conditions, Do Not feel Euphoria from this and similar medications. I have asked MANY Doctors why, and They all said it is because I - like Others - who have Severe Pain won't get "High" because the Pain is real and at such a high level. Doctors have to be very specific these days as to the Diagnoses needing high doses. My lresent Doctors' Office just said, "Severe Chrlnic Low Back Pain". I am kelt kn a lower Level now. I am presently seeing a new Doctor very soon, because there are people like me that don't abuse, and are bedridden in Pain where I feel like dying from improper treatment. ER visits to control the Pain will begin again. My point: They do Help people that suffer constantly. And having my back and left leg torn olen by a Pit Bull with Surgeries, made it unbearable. I have friends who are heavily addicted to O'C , 20mg caps . They are prescribed but here in England , they empty the capsules contents , a fine white powder , onto a spoon , add water ET voila , a bit of heat and slam it ! I've seen American documentaries, where they just smoke the tablet ? Can you even smoke the English powder ? I'm sorry to all you people who use this drug for legit reasons , I hope you make a recovery , But addiction !! Thanks

I cannot say to my DR which prescribes me oxycontin that i have really horrible and painful constipation, what can I do???

I took Oxycodone a year ago due to left shoulder pain until after surgery and it's all repaired. Now after a year later, I can't live without it because it feels so good to be on it. Is there something wrong with that?

I won’t ever try heroine even though Everyone says it’s the same thing. Would like to live the rest of days with pain tolerable . I’ve been using CBD which helps w anxiety not so much for pain. With dea making it harder to get pain meds, I’ve contemplated suicide when I’m at my worst.

Seen so many young people, friends and family die because of this shit, back when they were handing it out like candy, and I too was hooked on this stuff while I was never educated on how they work and what kind of physical/mental affects they would have. Not only are they expensive and dangerous, if the doctors decide to cut you off for any reason, guess what? You're spending hundreds of dollars on the street, selling all of your possession, your body, or getting hooked on heroin. Educate yourselves, too much of a good thing is always a bad thing, and if possible, look into more natural and healthier options such as Kratom and CBD oil, even Marijuana.

I'm attempting to wean Norco, have gone from 7 a day down to 3 , or even 2.5 10mg/325. I'm doing pretty good, never touch them till after 4pm now and may only have weed or gabbapentin during the day. My best friend may be dead anyday from Oxy use And I crave to have a life where I over come addiction on my own, through spirituality, diet, and whatever however.... My back and neck are pretty bad but I am Trying to be my best

Here we are in 2021 & getting pain relief is extremely difficult. Even if you are dying with days to live. But you can get all the heroin & illicit fentynal you want. Sometimes I think the govt is making more money on the illicit drug trade than they are on their pharmaceutical stock....

For me personally tolerance rose very quickly, I first used oxy last friday and 3/5mg snorted was enough, today I'm using 80's already.

In Europe it is vary rarely prescribed now, Most doctors prescribe synthetic opioids nowdays.Nucentia and Valoron are 2 comonly prescribed

I have severe chronic pain from a shattered spinal cord and it helps keep me active even after no increases in dosage over 20 yrs now. Some people handle it fine with almost no side effects. If i have any they are very mild to where i do not notice them.

Having stage 4 lung cancer, my oncologist has prescribed 10mg Derocet for pain, from the original 5Mg.. He suggested I split them in half, as I, and he, felt that 10Mg was too strong. Also, my insurance wouldn't cover a refill of the 5Mg, as I needed to use more than originally anticipated. (Too soon) So the question: Is it safe to cut the 10Mg in half? (Pill is not scored)

What I'm confused with is my say 7-325 and they are no longer working I have many medical reasons for taking but eight years its just not working anymore and my previous doctor put me on roxycodone 30 mg imm release and it work longer and better what is the difference with oxycodone aka percocet and what others are being given in a mg pill I have ms lupus spinal cord injuries and the list gets worse from there I'm just confused like I said on what all forms of oxycodone is confusing me I see most people are given a mg dosage and mine are just 7-325 and eight years its no longer helping
