Every Friday night, the Hirsch family invites another “perfect” girl to Shabbat dinner in the hopes that their son will marry a nice Jewish girl. This is put to an end when their son finally reveals that he is already seeing someone, and his parents can’t wait to meet the lucky lady - except she is actually a guy. His parents are distraught, but when reality sets in they begin to blame each other for their son’s sexuality.

The parents are both excellent actors, so they carry the movie. Plus it stays comedic, and doesn't drift into the dramatic or maudlin.

I really loved this show - when I came out at least my Dad was supportive, his only response was "same rule as your sister, no boys in your room". I don't blame the parents for needing to come to terms with this, coming to the realisation you're gay is a journey for everyone in our sphere and it takes time to process the change. In the end, the parents were more more concerned for the safety of their kids and loving them than they were about them being gay; it's a beautiful story.

I am happy because I accepted the way I am and I’m proud of myself and I’m proud of being gay and I’m proud of being a good person honest decent human being and I’m living a good life. I have a good job and I learned things the hard way.

I am convinced that the activists of the LGTBI collective should promote this film, which in a humorous way teaches and makes it known that gays do not come from another planet, that we have the same ups and downs as any human being, if love is pure no matter the sex.

Yes and also just as important, we don't choose to be gay or hetero ! It doesn't just happen, we can't just "turn" gay any more than we can turn hetero! By that crazy doctor's theory both of my sons will possibly be gay because I breast-fed both until they were about 2 😮😂😂😂 Oh lordy, gotta laugh lest we'll cry !

Even though it's an old movie! It mirrors reality well, a reality that is still not well understood today (unfortunately) I honestly liked the part where Nelson's mother makes that statement! It expresses well what open-minded parents have to feel about their children who have a different sexual orientation 😊

This is a beautiful film. I think there should be more gay films that have happy endings. It is wonderful to see the way the two families overcome the difficulties and that in the end love is the only way and that everyone should have the freedom to love who they wish to love.

Love this movie, though the parent’s struggles are hard to watch (but that’s the point, I know). Also - I noticed they cut out a couple scenes at 9:35 and at 1:04:52 so I was wondering why and what happened? This is the only version I’ve been able to find and I’m so curious what I’m missing.

Really disappointed at the anti-black racism in this film. When "Shirley" said she didn't want her son to be with a black woman, no one called her out on it, it was never brought back up later in the movie to rectify, and, to add insult to injury "Shirley" and "Martin's" maid is played by a black woman. Also, the only speaking role given to a black person in this movie was a maid!?!? Are we back in the 1940's again??? This film was indeed trash.

Did Nelson and Angelo even kiss? Once? If they did I don’t remember it. 👎🏻 Great casting and idea, but seriously lacking in character development. Too big of a cast I’m guessing. Probably too small of a budget for proper direction and production. Disappointed but if Lainie Kazan is in it, I’m watching.
