Being from New Orleans , I shucked a half a sack (Westwego Seafood Market). I started yesterday (Saturday) and finished the last 30 oysters today (Sunday) . Let me say that I have all the respect in the world for these guys . It was rough, but I got through it. Salute to him.

For me it's just applying the right amount of pressure at the right angle while wiggling, also pushing down w my body weight not my muscle, sometime a little bit of muscle if it's tough

Had my first sea-food boil with my friends who do it all the time. They had massive oysters there and I wanted to try them, I watched my friends struggle to open them and asked if I could try. Turns out I am a natural oyster shucker!!! After 2 of my massive friends failed to open an oyster, I walked over and opened it within 3 seconds. No one could believe it so they got another one out and I shucked it in 10 seconds. I ended up shucking 5 oysters very quickly and they were all in aw.

This is so fun to see all these so call exports... Worlds fastest shucker... or worlds fastest make it ready on the half shell shucker... In a 6 hour day my brother and I both open 9 to 11 gallons of oysters, run them over a sorting table of ice cold water where they are sized and put in jars or #10 cans for wholesale market and restaurants.

I shuck on the half shell as my second gig at a fancy restaurant/oyster bar. In a standard 6 hour shift will shuck about 500. That’s about at least 5 gallons if google is correct at one gallon consisting of 70-90. Shucking by the gallon is quicker though because you don’t have to plate them just separate from the bowl and into your gallon or quart container, so lining them up to be presentable.

i work at Moanna Pacific we have an opening room with pneumatic guns these guys can do 60+ trays hour and three quarters 3 dozen a tray thats 1800 oysters a run 4 runs although much respect to this guy knife opening is obsolete pnuematic guns are easier on the hands especially now we have triploids and open all year round.

I've shucked a lot oysters at my restaurant and I'm definitely faster than what I saw on this video. It takes 5 seconds an oyster. I usually do a dozen in one minute. I've also been to oyster houses where the shuckers are faster than me. I'm by no means the fastest. One thing I liked about the way he shucked the oyster was his method of cleaning the oyster by trimming the outer ridge of the oyster.

Stef Big is a Dexter Russell you can get it at academy for about 13 dollars. Use a stone or grinder to sharp the tip a little not too much and finally grab a wire brush and brush the heck out of the hilt , brand new knives have shiny clear coat of wax and is kind of slippery if you try to use it like that. Matter of fact brush the hilt first and then work on the tip at your convenience.

I'm pretty skilled at shucking Oysters myself, I'll tell you this-You will always lose some of the juices when shucking them. It's inevitable. Kind of like when you're opening up a coconut, the impact causes you to lose some juice.

Amateur shucker here. Some weekends I'll pick up 24 and it's a lot of work. I usually slow play it throughout a Sunday. But the most I'll do in a row is like 6.

You should try the East Hampton Shucking tool, it's the safest and easiest way to open oysters. You dont hold down the oyster down with your hand. It keeps your hand away from the knife. You won't get hurt.

There’s several oyster openers for different oysters. There should never be sand or shell period. Last chew the meaty part (muscle that holds the oysters together)and you will have a better taste of the oyster and the brime unless it’s a pasteurized oyster then your just having a plumped up tasteless oyster.
