I injected Ozempic for 5 weeks according to dosage guidelines to lose weight because I was diagnosed gross obese pre diabetic type 2. I had several episodes of near fainting, sudden energy loss, profuse sweating. I was constantly nauseous. I quit using it & joined Weight Watchers. Feeling great, 68 lbs. loss so far. An important point is missed: what is the normal, average risk of thyroid cancer and how much does GLP-1 drugs increase this risk in a worst case. Then, this should be compared to the risks of cancer from being obese. Cancers associated with obesity are likely much more common than thyroid cancer in the first place, and the increased risk from being obese may far outweigh the increased thyroid risk from GPL-1 drugs. This is the sort of trade-off analysis we need. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much for such a good review about the evidence of Thyroid cancer, the biased in some of the research, and the danger of higher dosage GLP-1 agonist drugs to lose weight. I think is important to find alternatives to treat obesity.

Well, this is scary - I'm type 2, and took Victoza for a year, then switched to Trulicity. I've been off them for a year, but my thyroid measurement is out of order. Yikes!
Just found a lump on my throat not long after taking Ozempic for 2 months. Going to get an ultrasound and labwork, ordered by doc. Needless to say, I’m no longer taking it.
I used now wegovy, I tried everything it’s hard to battle obesity, I am scared 😱 for cancer risk hope it’s be miracle not cancer risk for all this medication and general 🙏🙏
People who take these have a higher risk of thyroid problems, but is that because the medication causes the thyroid problems or because people who are obese are more likely to be hypothyroid to begin with?
Hard to say, but consider it the other way around. There are many more obese people than people with hypothyreosis. Yes obese population has a slightly higher prevalence of hypothyreosis, but not all the hypothyroidic patients develop obesity. So the answer is likely the risk is higher in all groups taking glp-1 agonists. The risk profile of a patient should be adjusted accordingly. Implementing it in Severely overweight patients would decrease all other cancer risks and decrease cardivascular morbidity for the price of modestly increasing thyroid cancer risk. A net win. Those who struggle with to lose fat under 20% bf, might not benefit of overall risk reduction from all other cause of mortality and the elevated thyroid cancer risk might not worth it. As it is always the case: there is no free lunch.
If higher calcitonin hormone levels is a indicator of MTC, can taking Vitamin K2 (MK-4/MK7) to lower blood calcium levels thus lowering calcitonin help to mitigate MTC from happening? To lower the risk? I have a background in biochemistry (masters) and I was just prescribed ozempic but I have not taken it yet I want to get baseline tests done by an endocrinologist and monitor this in real time. My primary care physician prescribed the ozempic but I have to have her approval to be referred to a endocrinologist unfort and she is not convinced testing this is necessary sadly, even after telling her my background in biochemistry. How do I express my concerns with doctors on this? I feel like when it comes to nuance with medications, alot of doctors shy away from talking to me about the biochemistry and pharmacodynamics of all of this sadly!
Yo! Get a new doctor. That is ridiculous. There is no reason for her not to give you a referral. It's your dang money why would your primary care give a care? The answer is they shouldn't, she probably has some kind of complex after you explained the pharmacokinetics and made her brain melt
